Location and surroundings of object
Imperia consists of two districts, which were for centuries independent cities. One Porto Maurizio, was marked by the rural culture, trade and the nobility, the other Oneglia by the industry and the port. The old town of Porto Maurizio, Parasio, has an almost completely preserved medieval structure, a mountain houses with labyrinthine alleys, stairways and subways. Everything wildly romantic, very authentic and not "totrestauriert" fortunately. Porto Maurizio has also a nice little port and beautiful sandy beaches. On Thursday there will be a weekly market on the main street Via Cascione. It's worth getting up early!
Oneglia however passed slowly from its industrial past and becomes a trendy, chic city. Close the factories, in the port developing rapidly very good restaurants and bars. In addition to the fishing boats, where you can still buy fresh fish, are increasingly luxury yachts. The beautiful Via Bonfante with its arcades is always interesting. There are very good food shops, boutiques and bars. Twice a week will take place on Wednesday and Saturday in Oneglia, right next to the harbor, a large market. Here you will find everything from tablecloths, flowers and handbags to prosciutto.
Highly recommended is the Olive Museum of Carli family, Museo dell'Olivo - Via Garessio, 13 - 18100 Imperia. Directly opposite "Emporio Carli" big business where you also cosmetics family Carli produces olive oil, pesto, wine from the olive oil is, can buy. Much in BIO quality.
In Imperia Porto Maurizio you will find sandy beaches in Imperia-Oneglia there are mostly pebble beaches, they are also in August not crowded and the water is very clean. A tip: they're going to Imperia-Oneglia, at the roundabout in the center, drive towards Genoa. After arriving at the sea, do not bend as signposted left, but go straight along the sea. It is a dead end, a never completed coastal road. This is for cars in the back course, locked. There you will find beautiful small romantic coves where you can swim with dogs.
Highly recommended is a trip to Pieve di Teco (just the SS 28 direction Torino continue to follow), an ancient trading town. There is always the last Sunday of the month a very interesting antique market.
