This cultural landscape is unique in Europe and was declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO in 1991 in order to preserve it in its original state. The typical means of transport on the approximately 600 km of navigable rivers and canals has always been the flat wooden barge, which is propelled by hand with a so-called wooden paddle. The most beautiful tours can be undertaken from numerous barge harbours. Numerous Spreewald inns, mostly located directly on the Spreewald rivers, offer typical regional dishes.

Prices and Services The prices stated are final prices and include all additional costs, unless otherwise stated in the booking confirmation/invoice. The services owed by the accommodation provider are defined by the content of the booking confirmation/invoice combined with the current brochure. Separately, the community of Burg charges a spa tax, which is to be collected by the landlord on the day of arrival. 2. Born and raised in Burg, I am deeply rooted in the Spreewald and its traditions, such as Zampern or Fastnacht. I remember the Spreewald from the time of the great floods. Back then, the agriculture that characterised the region was still carried out by horse and cart and sometimes by barge. My parents and I grew cucumbers and horseradish on our smallholding. Over time, farming was no longer profitable enough to maintain the property. I therefore decided to convert the former barn into what is now a holiday home. Since 2001, my team and I have been welcoming guests to the biosphere reserve and, in my roles as a passionate craftsman, bargeman and Spreewald enthusiast, I am constantly working to develop the guesthouse further. It is particularly close to my heart when guests can immerse themselves in our unique landscape by boat, bike or on foot and relax in our garden right by the water.
