Highlights in Lübben include the many events on and along the streams, charmingly combining art and culture with the nature of the Spreewald. The streams and their banks provide a beautiful natural backdrop for entertaining barge trips. New themes for the popular Lübben Barge Nights include: sporting achievements from the classic Olympians of antiquity to the extreme athletes of modern times, entertainingly presented on the nocturnal banks of the Spree. At the Spreewald Crime Barge Trips, there's literary intrigue with a deadly outcome, and at the Chuckle Barge Trips, passengers listen to quirky stories. What would the Spreewald be without its enchanting Spreewald women in traditional costumes? Following Lübbenau and Burg, the 3rd edition of the Spreewald Folk and Costume Festival in June at the Slavic castle hill in Lübben will see the skirts swaying. Tradition and costume associations, musicians, and Spreewald originals invite you to a sociable gathering.
Lübben attracts adventurers: Check the fit of your safety harness and conquer the only high ropes course in the Spreewald. Here, your children aged 6 and up can climb to their heart's content. After the exertion, how about some relaxation? Then a barge trip beckons. Since there are five ports in Lübben, the choice is vast, ranging from short city tours to full-day trips into the Spreewald. In the Swiss Corner in Lübbenau, young families will find an exceptionally beautiful jungle playground with a suspension bridge. Climbing, swinging, and playing in the sand are all encouraged. In Lübbenau, the House for Humans and Nature also beckons. The modern exhibition of the visitor center immerses your children in interactive worlds of experience. This way, they learn playfully about the Spreewald as "accommodation" for its animal and plant inhabitants. The Spreewald is not only great for children but also for a vacation with a dog. Not only the rivers but also the many forests here in the Spreewald will particularly delight you with a dog. The castle island Lübben with a water playground and Spreelagune is a popular excursion destination in the Spreewald for travelers with children.
The Spreewald is not only a unique cultural and natural landscape but also a true region of culinary delights. Spreewald pickles, fresh horseradish, rich nutty linseed oil, and yeast dumplings based on traditional recipes are just some of the regional delicacies. Tip: You can make culinary discoveries with the Spreewald Culinarium: refining medicinal & spice plants in the Spreewald Herb Manufactory, enjoying wellness treatments with strawberries, and harvesting pickles yourself are just some of the offerings. A visit to the farmers' market is also worthwhile: Enjoy your purchased delicacies privately in your accommodation in Lübben.
The Lübben Castle has a tumultuous history. Originally a defensive tower surrounded by a moat, today it presents itself as a Renaissance-style castle complex. Since 2001, it has housed the city and regional museum, which is dedicated to the city's history. You can visit it from Wednesday to Sunday from 10 AM to 5 PM. (As of November 2023) The late Gothic hall church in the middle of the city is Lübben's landmark. He served as an archdeacon in Lübben and was buried at an unknown location in the church. Since the year 2000, the town hall has been hosting the international Cartoon Biennale Grafikatur.
