Location and surroundings of object
The almost "self-sufficient" straw house, which is exposed on the crater rim of the Pulvermaar near Gillenfeld, offers you a beautiful view of the Eifel landscape
Because of its 1.35 m thick load-bearing walls, the straw house is breathable, diffusion-open, highly sound-insulated, with heat insulation that can hardly be surpassed and without allergy-inducing substances. (Primary energy consumption 1/35 of conventional construction)
From here, hiking trails lead directly into the nearer and further surroundings. Thus you have plenty of opportunities to discover the beauties of the Eifel. The entrances to the Maare-Mosel cycle path, the Eifelsteig as well as the Lieserpfad can be reached within a few minutes. The nearby Pulvermaar as well as four other Eifelmaare nearby invite you to swim in a volcanic crater lake! The village of Gillenfeld has a healthy infrastructure:
In the village there is a small supermarket, several butchers, bakery, 2 cafés and a goat farm with its own cheese dairy; restaurant and pizzeria, mini golf course.
In the immediate vicinity is an adventure farm with a restaurant and farm shop
A general practitioner is also located here, as is a pharmacy.
The neighbouring village of Strohn with its museum (Volcano House), a lava bomb at the entrance to the romantic
Alfbach valley invites you to stay, explore and hike
The Maare-Mosel cycle path leads through the village of Gillenfeld past the Holzmaar through the Pleiner Tunnel to Wittlich and along the Lieser to the Moselle.
Manderscheid with its maars and castles is about 8 km away
A visit to the wildlife park near Daun (approx. 15 km) is always worthwhile, especially with children
The spa town of Bad Bertrich - 13 km away - offers all wellness facilities and from there you can reach the romantic Moselle valley in
romantic Moselle valley with many wine taverns, castles or ruins on the heights,

One of the great natural beauties of the Volcanic Eifel is the Pulvermaar, embedded in a magnificent landscape surrounded by beech forests - a natural monument of volcanic origin. As Germany's deepest maar, it invites you to swim, boat or fish in its crystal-clear waters
The newly designed bathing area offers disabled access to the Pulvermaar, as well as a water slide for children and young-at-heart adults. The surrounding, well-maintained sunbathing lawns offer bathers the opportunity to relax extensively after swimming in the Pulvermaar natural pool or in the non-swimmer's pool. Playground equipment and a paddling pool for the little ones round off the bathing fun. In the cafeteria with outdoor terrace, which is part of the outdoor pool, visitors and bathers can enjoy coffee, cake and various delicacies in a pleasant atmosphere.

Nature and tranquillity...
Dear family Hein,
my husband, I and our collie dog spent a few days in your beautiful straw bale house in February/March 2017 and we liked it very much, especially the sauna, which we liked to use during this time when the weather was very moody. We have spent many short and long holidays here and can say from experience that the equipment and especially the cleanliness of the furnishings of your straw bale house is second to none! The house is beautifully landscaped (super distant view) and quietly situated, family-friendly and comfortably furnished. The room climate is very pleasant and definitely recommendable!
What we were looking for: Peace and relaxation as well as hiking possibilities we have found there.P.S the organic farm shops are also good.... Many greetings and enjoy your stay..Mr. and Mrs. Kriechel
recommend for: disabled persons, seniors, holiday with children, holiday with pet, cultural and sightseeing holiday

Mr. B. Hein
Hello, after having built several houses conventionally, I wanted to show with an ecological construction method, that it is easy to save a lot of primary energy (1/35 of conventional construction) and at the same time create an absolutely healthy indoor climate. I didn't reinvent the wheel, but implemented it and opened it up as a holiday home for anyone interested to get to know. After completing my schooling and bank apprenticeship, I had previously worked for a good 30 years in various departments of local banks and in 1992 became a self-employed property developer. The result is a passive house that offers an unrivalled indoor climate, together with the wonderful location on the crater rim of the Pulvermaar.
