Would you like to relax, swim, fish, hike, walk, explore the surrounding area or even experience Astrid Lindgren's birthplace?
Then you have come to the right place:
In the small and quiet village of Flathult lies our cosy and newly built holiday home called 'Sjöstuga Lena'. in 2020 we decided to tear down our old house, which was in great need of renovation, and rebuild it. In December 2022 we finally had the final inspection and can now offer our new version of Sjöstuga Lena for rent
The house is located less than 50 m from lake Flaten, with its own access to jetty and boat.
A few facts about the house:
On the ground floor there is a bedroom with a double bed. In the kitchen there is a coffee maker, kettle, cooker, oven, microwave, toaster, fridge/freezer. Of course, there is also all the crockery and cutlery. In the living room there is a TV with German satellite reception and a fireplace. Firewood is available on the property. The bathroom is equipped with shower, sink, toilet and washing machine. Upstairs there are two more bedrooms, one with a double bed and one with two single beds. In front of the bedrooms is the gallery, where we have set up a small reading corner
Through the large window front you have a beautiful view of the lake.
The terrace extends on two sides of the house and is partly covered. There is also a barbecue.
The large garden also invites you to play and relax.
Free WIFI is available and a solar system has recently been installed and connected to the roof. We have also installed a charging station for electric cars.
The rowing boat is ready at the jetty for fishing trips or a short crossing to the wonderful sandy and bathing beach on the opposite side of the lake. An electric motor can be rented from us on request.

Location and surroundings of object
Sjöstuga Lena is located by Lake Flaten on the edge of the small village of Flathult and is easily accessible via a gravel road. A lowered car is not recommended, however, as the level crossing of a narrow-gauge railway has to be crossed
There are other holiday homes in the neighbourhood, as well as a permanently inhabited house. Flathult is a small, cosy village situated between Virserum and Målilla.
It is situated by a lake and river system with good fishing opportunities. The most common fish are pike, perch, zander and whitefish. More information is available at flatenfiske.se, including a link to iFiske.se. Fishing permits can be bought online there. It is also possible to buy fishing permits in the village.
Of course you can also swim in the lake. A beautiful sandy beach with a shallow shore area is located on the opposite shore of the lake and can be reached by rowing boat in less than 20 minutes. Life jackets for adults and children are available.
A walk in the forest is always recommended. Simply enjoy the peace and nature. Observe animals, pick mushrooms and berries. In Virserum and Järnforsen, for example, there are designated hiking trails with lengths ranging from 2.5 to 19 km and extremely varied degrees of difficulty.
A small bakery, Bageriet Björkaholm, offers bread rolls and pizza on pre-order. It is run by Germans and is also located in Flathult. You can also book train rides there. Experience nature from the tracks with your own muscle power. An experience for the whole family.
The nearest shopping facilities are in Målilla and Virserum, both about 7 km away. In Virserum you will also find doctors, a pharmacy and a dental practice.
In winter you can even go downhill skiing on Dackestupet. There, slopes are prepared with artificial snow every year, small but OHO! Ski equipment can be rented there. In summer, there are several mountain bike trails on Dackestupet.
Depending on the weather, cross-country skiing, ice skating or ice fishing are also possible in many places in winter
Astrid Lindgren's Vimmerby, Bullerby and Michel in Lönneberga are about 50 km away
The Baltic Sea coast at Oskarshamn is about 60 km away. From there you can take a day trip to the Blue Virgin (Blå Jungfrun) in the summer. A small mystical island that is designated as a nature reserve.
In Målilla, there is first-class speedway racing and the Målilla Älgpark is also close by
Apart from these highlights, there is so much more to discover in the surrounding area.

Pure relaxation
We spent 11 wonderful days as a family of 5 in Kerstin and Jörn's holiday home. The hosts are pleasantly down-to-earth and uncomplicated. The house is well thought out, cozy, and at the same time spacious, and the surroundings are so beautiful that we were able to relax well. We were on the water every day with the boat and explored the lakes. Delicious sourdough bread from the bakery "Björkaholm" on the "lake route" and coffee or tea on the loft with a dream view of the water. Perfect - we're coming back.

Wonderful
That was our first trip to Sweden. We are simply thrilled. We felt so comfortable. The cozy and tastefully furnished house, in which everything was available that you need for a relaxing vacation, made our trip perfect. Everything was very clean. The hosts were always accessible, very friendly and always helpful. The location of the accommodation is ideal, as you can enjoy the tranquility of the lake there, but still have many options if you want to do something. Thank you very much!!!

Dreamlike beautiful!
Wow!
We have both never experienced such a beautiful and cosy holiday home with such great facilities. Everything is well maintained and very clean. The view of the lake is simply a dream.
The perfect place to relax and unwind (or for a boat trip on the Flaten). In addition, the communication with the hosts was great.

We, Jörn and Kerstin, emigrated from North Friesland to Mörlunda in Småland in 2007. We run our own company here with carpentry and gardening services. We bought our holiday home "Sjöstuga Lena" by Lake Flaten in 2014 and have been using it diligently ourselves ever since. 2020 We also fish frequently in Lake Flaten and the adjoining lakes Melsjön and Bysjön and the Gårdvedaån, a floodplain that connects the lakes. Most of the summer weeks we rent out our cottage to holiday guests, to whom we are also happy to offer advice and assistance, if time permits.
