Description
Cosy and spacious holiday flat in the historic school of Neuwerk in the Harz mountains (near Rübeland), built in 1905. The attic of the building with the distinctive clock tower was completely rebuilt in 2013, while the original character of the building was largely preserved. On the ground floor there are two large former classrooms and a fully equipped kitchen, which you can book for your event if required. Tried and tested for up to 100 people!
The heart of the flat is the large open kitchen-living room with tiled stove. The kitchen is fully equipped and offers seating for approx. 12-15 people at the large dining table. Furthermore, the flat has two shower bathrooms with toilet and a small guest toilet.
The flat has three large bedrooms with single beds (and space for children's beds) and two small bedrooms with double beds.
The newly laid pine floor throughout the flat and the old beams of the half-timbering, which have been left as original as possible, create a uniquely cosy atmosphere. The warmth of the tiled stove and/or the central heating system ensures well-being at all times of the year.
An extra bed in the flat is possible without any problems due to sufficient space. Two children's beds are available free of charge, as are highchairs.
For a larger family reunion, you are welcome to book the holiday home "Kickels Hus Neuwerk" (right next door) (14 beds).
For family celebrations or similar, the large classroom (with kitchen and toilet9 on the ground floor will soon be available. Please enquire if you are interested.

Location and surroundings of object
Nestled deep in the Bode Valley is the village school, newly built and inaugurated in 1905, with its distinctive clock tower at the entrance to Neuwerk near Rübeland in the Bode Valley. The school grounds are about 1500 square metres in size and are covered with three old chestnut trees. The sound of the nearby Bode river and, when the wind blows, the chestnut leaves are usually the only sounds. The Harzer Hexenstieg (Harz Witches' Path), the dams and the extensive mixed forests offer plenty of hiking opportunities in very peaceful natural surroundings, even without a car. Excursions are tempting to the Hexentanzplatz and the Rosstrappe, to the Brocken by steam train or on foot through the Bodetal. Wernigerode, Quedlinburg, Braunlage, Halberstadt Cathedral and Falkenstein Castle are all within easy reach. Several visitor mines in the area provide an insight into the mining history of the Harz. Current attractions include the 458.5m suspension bridge over the Bode Valley next to the Rappbode Dam and the "Megazipline" with approx. 1000m flight over the reservoir (Harzdrenalin)
There is a wide range of activities for winter sports enthusiasts: many cross-country ski trails are within easy reach, as is the Wurmberg in Braunlage for downhill skiing. The Wurmberg is now also artificially snowed for snow safety. Elbingerode and Schierke also offer cross-country skiing trails and can be reached quickly.

You will hardly find a more unspoilt and cosy place than Neuwerk in the Harz.
Comprising the four districts of Oberdorf, Unterdorf, Hamburg and Kreuztal, Neuwerk currently has about 130 inhabitants. With no through road, it is correspondingly quiet, as there is only the traffic of the residents and a few quiet-loving holiday guests.
The houses, mostly Harz half-timbered houses, are built into the Bode Valley in a confined space. If you are looking for peace and quiet, nature, outdoor activities or a cosy get-together, you will definitely not be disappointed in Neuwerk

Holiday home with history
A stay in the spacious vacation apartment on the 1st floor of the Old School was 100% worthwhile. The apartment offers plenty of space for the whole family in the 5 bedrooms and especially in the large living-dining room. The large, well-maintained garden has a sufficiently large terrace and can be used for various activities. Our weekend was a complete success. We were there with 6 adults, 2 small children, and a dog. Everyone had space and the opportunity to retreat. The communication with the landlords was friendly and very accommodating. We even received a personal tour of the historical clock mechanism. Would gladly do it again!

Short vacation in the Harz Mountains
We met here with children and grandchildren for a few days. The accommodation is an experience, the on-site care and cleanliness are great, and the weather for hiking was also beautiful. Thank you very much, maybe it will work again sometime.

Weekend with friends.
A belated birthday present - a weekend with friends... Planned for a long time and postponed for almost as long due to Corona - now it has finally become a reality. The accommodation is perfect for 12 people, very nice and ideally located for a visit to the Harz region. The property is lovingly prepared and also visually appealing from the outside. The clock tower is also worth seeing. Everything is there - only perhaps a couch is missing. We enjoyed our stay and felt very comfortable. Thank you very much and we would be happy to come back!

Holiday with rascals
We travelled to Neuwerk with 12 people (6 adults, 6 children) and had a great time! The house and garden are beautiful and the playground across the street provided plenty to do. The landlord was very nice, helpful and made it possible for us and our children to have great experiences like visiting the clock. It was especially nice that a solution was found for all our concerns regarding the furnishings. A small flaw is the lack of a comfortable seating area for the evening - we will still be very happy to come back hopefully sometime!

Pure Erholung in Neuwerk
With a group size of 12 people, we stayed at the Alte Schule Neuwerk which provided a cozy accommodation that couldn't have been better. The apartment on the upper floor of the school is in a very well-maintained, clean condition, and the basic kitchen equipment leaves nothing to be desired. Both the bathrooms and bedrooms are spacious, so even with the number of people, there was no crowding. Mr. Weidemann and the caretaker made for an extremely pleasant and smooth stay, including a guided tour of the tower and its clockwork. From Neuwerk, one can reach numerous tourist attractions in the Harz within minutes if a car is available, and this accommodation is also ideal for hikes starting right at the doorstep.
Overall, we would like to thank you for a lovely weekend!

Perfekte Unterkunft

Large family accommodation
The Old School in Neuwerk is beautifully located in the middle of the Harz Mountains. The renovation of the rooms and the old clockwork display taste and love for the object. The apartment is particularly well suited for a large family or several families together. Hikers and nature lovers will particularly enjoy it. But the nearby town of Wernigerode is also beautiful and easily accessible.

Great accommodation with a lot of heart and history
Great, cozy apartment in the middle of nature with lots of space for large groups. Additionally, there are many great excursion opportunities nearby. We felt comfortable all around and also found the history of the house very interesting. However, we would have one improvement suggestion: a sofa or armchair to relax and put our feet up would be great!

Schöne große Wohnung
In the apartment in the converted attic, we had more than enough space for our family vacation with 6 adults and 2 children and a beautiful large kitchen-living room. You can easily walk to Rübeland with its famous stalactite caves and the lovely outdoor pool "Bodeperle".

Great family weekend in a beautiful old school in the Harz mountains.
Beautiful holiday apartment suitable for large family gatherings or meetings with friends. We were 10 adults and 3 children. A crib and high chair were also available. The apartment has everything you need. There is also a garden for sunbathing, playing, and grilling. A good starting point for many lovely trips.
A larger fridge and a couch would be recommended. Two bedrooms are quite small, but for a long weekend, it is completely sufficient. We can definitely recommend the holiday apartment and would love to come back.

Beautiful old school in Neuwerk.
For the second time, we have enjoyed our autumn vacation at the old school with great pleasure. The location is beautiful in the Bodetal, away from traffic roads. The living space is very cozy and can be heated with wood in addition to the heating. The equipment is very good and the service is pleasant.

The large kitchen-living room with good equipment is particularly practical and pleasant. The 2-bedrooms are somewhat small, but it's just for the night. The Wi-Fi is not always stable.
Apart from the rent, you pay a deposit as a down payment for the booking, which is then offset against the electricity consumption. Otherwise, everything is included in the rent.
Overall, I can recommend the accommodation. We had nice days, and the host is very helpful...

Risk of falling in one of the bedrooms
The holiday home has a very cozy vibe. Very good location, very nice property, comfortable atmosphere. One of the bedrooms has a downward step at the door entrance, which is not marked, and can cause one to stumble easily. After the evening routine and unfortunately lost in thought, I fell and hit my thigh on the edge of the bed, resulting in a flesh wound that required me to spend the entire weekend in the hospital. Conclusion: Emergency call worked and emergency services were quickly on site, the emergency surgery was performed quickly and competently at the Harzklinikum in Wernigerode. Please inform the landlord: somehow mark the unusual step or remove a bed from the small room.
