Description
A typical Harz house from 1870.
Modern and cosy furnishings. Sleeps up to 23 people including a sofa bed.
The holiday home is two-storey and is located on the first floor and the upper floor.
You have an unobstructed view of the mountains.
The apartment is brightly furnished and has two balconies. It was completely renovated in 2015.
The fenced garden (approx. 2000 m²) including garden house and barbecue is entirely at your disposal.

On the upper floor is the large kitchen-living area, where you can all sit and eat together at a long table, as well as 4 bedrooms, one of the bathrooms and the two balconies. There is an additional washbasin in the multi-bed room.
In the attic are the other bedrooms and another bathroom.
It is a 5-minute walk to the thermal baths, the ski lift and the town centre.

Location and surroundings of object
The Steiger-Gustav-Haus is only a 5-minute walk from the ski slope and about a 5-minute walk from the town centre and 3 minutes from the spa - right in the middle.
Altenau is a former free mountain town in the district of Goslar in Lower Saxony and today a health resort in the Upper Harz. Altenau was granted town charter in 1617. The town is a member of the Oberharz joint municipality.
The town is characterised by old miners' houses from the time when Altenau was a free mining town. The use of wood as a building material is typical of the region. The relatively small wooden church of St. Nikolai, built in the 17th century, is located in the town. The houses have been well adapted to the harsh winters since time immemorial and have an architectural style typical of the Harz Mountains.
Quite in the centre of the village is the imposing Schützenklippe, from which you can get an excellent panoramic view of the village.
germany's largest herb park was opened in Altenau in 2004. Many thousands of tourists visit the botanical garden every year, which is maintained all year round and displays a wide range of varieties. Other sights can be reached on foot via hiking trails. The Harzer Hexenstieg (Harz Witch's Path) leads to the Dammgraben with the Dammhaus and the Polsterberger Hubhaus. Hiking trails also lead to the Kellwasser valley at the pre-dam of the Oker dam and to Torfhaus in the Harz National Park.
The local history museum in Altenau offers an insight into the history of the Upper Harz. The exhibition there is particularly dedicated to presenting the living conditions in the Upper Harz, which were strongly influenced by mining and the professions that depended on it - metallurgy, forestry, charcoal burning and haulage.

Schöne große Ferienwohnung
This vacation rental is huge and beautiful. You can use a large garden. The landlords on the ground floor are friendly and quiet. The area is also very quiet and beautiful. There is even plastic crockery and a high chair for small children. We will definitely check in again. This vacation rental is definitely suitable for large families or larger travel groups.
recommend for: adventure and experience, holiday with children, cultural and sightseeing holiday

We were on site in March 2019 with a group of 10 adults. The house is functional with plenty of space and we found it very clean. We can recommend it :-)

So I opened my house in Friesland, the Köpkenhuus, to my guests to give you this feeling of breathing freely too - if only for a holiday. It is nice to pass on things that you yourself have found fulfilling. The Steiger-Gustav-Haus and Karl's Ferienhaus in the Harz Mountains are the counterparts to the Köpkenhuus. It is a beautiful contrast to Friesland and it has its very own flair. It is located in the heart of the Upper Harz and everything is within easy reach from here. The different seasons can be experienced intensively here. The largest continuous forest in Lower Saxony is here and invites you to take a deep breath. Wish you a wonderful time in the houses of the Eilerschen Heimat!
