A lovely walk through the woods will take you to a beach on the IJsselmeer for swimming or water sports. For example, the Mirnser Klif is a hotspot for kite surfers of all levels due to its shallow water and often favourable wind conditions. Furthermore, you can enjoy hiking, cycling, mountain biking, horse riding, golfing or cycling a stretch of the Elfstedentocht. Moreover, nearby you will find picturesque villages on the Frisian lakes that are definitely worth a visit.

Location and surroundings of object
The Bird of Paradise is located in a small park 3km from the village of Oudemirdum, near the Rijster forest and the IJsselmeer. The park has several private holiday homes and a large communal lawn. There are no other facilities, but you will find several supermarkets and a bakery that delivers bread to your door within a 10-minute drive.
The surroundings are beautiful and versatile; you will find forests, the lake, and fields, ideal to explore by car and for sports activities. Below are some tips on what to do in the area:
- From the house, you walk through the forest in 10 minutes to the popular kitesurfing beach 't Mirnser Klif. Here you can of course learn to kitesurf but also swim safely in the lake.
- There are also other beaches nearby that you can reach by car such as De Hege Gerzen in Oudemirdum (5km) which has various facilities and a pavilion for a drink and snack.
- Take trips to the Frisian lakes and visit picturesque villages such as Joure (30 min), Lemmer (20 min) and Woudsend (15 min).
- The area is ideal for sporty guests, so you can go for long (forest) walks, mountain biking, golfing (Golf Club Gaasterland is only 5 km away) or horse riding. You can also cycle part of the Elfstedentocht, such as to Stavoren and Hindelopen.
- Go for a day of sloop sailing on the lakes and bring your picnic lunch. A fun experience for young and old alike!
- Finally, at the visitor centre Mar and Klif in (Oudemirdum) you can learn all about the history and nature of this beautiful area!
