Welcome to our luxury group and holiday accommodation De Witakker, located in the National Landscape South-West Friesland. Here you will find a varied, rolling landscape near the Rijsterbos forest. The IJsselmeer is within walking distance. The Frisian lakes with their lovely historical towns and picturesque villages are close by. Our accommodation is ideal for family and friends groups, but also for courses and business relations.
All facilities are available for a successful stay.
The accommodation is a former school building that was converted into luxury accommodation in 2020. It is fully equipped and spacious, allowing guests to quickly find their own space. The holiday home stands on over half an acre of its own land, so plenty of privacy and space in and around the house. The owner lives nearby and is always willing to answer questions or offer assistance.
The accommodation is within the built-up area of Rijs, so not a party location. De Witakker is located on recreation cluster 'Mooi Gaasterland'. The choice of restaurants and eateries is therefore great.
The building has various living, dining and play areas. There is a cosy and attractively furnished room with a sitting area and a fireplace. A separate dining area where you can eat together. A cosy central indoor area. A nice playroom with games cupboard, where small children can have fun. Older children can hang out in a separate game and chill room.
There is plenty of play space around the accommodation with a sandpit and a football pitch. The grounds are fully enclosed, allowing children to play safely outside. There is a terrace, where everyone can enjoy the sun.
Whether you come for cycling, walking or just to socialise with your family or friends, De Witakker is the place to be.
Cosy outdoor drinks and coffee
The cosy terrace has no fixed table arrangement. By moving around, you can enjoy the sun or shade all day long. The woodland gardens are laid out with plants, shrubs and trees appropriate to the surroundings. The various planters with bedding plants make the 'summer season' a cheerful and colourful one. The result is waking up to birds singing in the morning.
The large veranda is suitable as a work or meeting place.
Cooking
The professionally equipped kitchen is great for self-catering. Among other things, it is equipped with a dishwasher, 6 electric hotplates, a large freezer and fridge, an oven and a microwave. Adjacent is the buffet area. Apart from the normal double coffee machine, there is a (professional bean) coffee machine (at an extra charge). Under the veranda is the outdoor kitchen, with professional gas barbecue and plenty of buffet space. Makes it possible that the (planned) barbecue can still go ahead in case of less favourable weather.
Sleeping
All 15 bedrooms have their own shower and toilet. There are hotel box springs, which have a coupling facility. Double beds can be uncoupled into two single beds. The beds have no fixed position; they can easily be pushed apart as required. The bedrooms on that floor are all air-conditioned (energy used is charged separately). All rooms have wardrobes, central heating, blackout curtains and screens (mosquito net). Number of bedrooms with shower and toilet expandable on request to a total of 23 rooms. Disabled persons
The accommodation is fully adapted for the disabled. There is a separate disabled bedroom, which meets the required guidelines. This is equipped with an adapted shower and toilet (with brackets, shower chair, shower stool), wide doors and two electric "all-position" care beds with parrot. The accommodation is completely barrier-free, including the outdoor area.
Additional
In consultation, you can use a sports hall available in the building. A great space to do communal activities, especially in bad weather. Large meeting room Jopie is a multifunctional meeting room, which can be set up as you wish and is fully equipped. The use of natural elements from the surroundings, homely atmospheric decor and comfortable furniture allow for inspiring meetings. After all, if you feel at home, you can absorb information better and thus function more efficiently and effectively.

Location and surroundings of object
Located in the National Landscape South-West Fryslân with its varied, rolling landscape, you will find this former school, which has been converted into a luxury holiday home. The IJsselmeer with its sandy beach is about 1000 metres from the accommodation! In addition to forests such as the centuries-old Rijsterbos, panoramic views and the Frisian lakes, you will find lovely historic Frisian towns and picturesque villages in the area.
Everything Friesland has to offer comes together in the Gaasterland region; including beautiful walking and cycling routes, including the Elfstedenroute. Article in ANWB Kampioen April 2020; 'You drive right past it. Yet it is one of the most beautiful landscapes in the Netherlands. Gaasterland made for cycling!
A day enjoying the Frisian lakes and canals with a sloop, authentic praam or skûtsje in the immediate vicinity of De Witakker is one of the many possibilities. De Witakker also offers the possibility of taking a nostalgic tour of the surroundings by solex or authentic VW Beetle. By boat, bicycle or motorised by any route, you will pass many places of interest, museums, historic townscapes and a varied landscape.
If you do not feel like cooking yourself.......in the immediate vicinity of the accommodation are various dining options from luxury A la carte restaurants, cafeteria and beach pavilion. There are plenty of opportunities to enjoy one of the terraces which can be found on reviewers' lists.

Good to know;
- After booking, we will send a link with the prices of optional service items.
- NO made beds, sealed bed package (one package per guest)
- Included in the price hygiene package; toilet paper, paper towels, hand soap, dishwasher soap. (Towels are optional, usage costs are charged)
- Upgrade 'business overnight comfort'; one person per bedroom, incl. made beds, extended hygiene package and towels possible at extra charge.
- Accommodation left 'broom clean', beds taken down and dishes done.
- Bedrooms must be vacated by 9.00 a.m. on the day of departure due to cleaning.
Business (stay Monday to Friday)
Business meetings in consultation, full catering service possible (extensive range of drinks, breakfast, lunches and dinner) based on subsequent calculation. Arrival 8 a.m. departure no later than 5 p.m. possible in consultation (with one overnight stay). We only rent exclusively to one company. - No loud (mechanical) music outside / on terrace.
- Terrace (veranda/ canopy) (May to September) to be used until 24.00, after 24.00 quiet outside and quiet inside.
- Winter period October to April quiet outside after 22.00

- Music volume may not cause nuisance
- Pets allowed after consultation
- On Skoalplein only loading and unloading max 2 cars
- Keep parking spaces near charging stations free as much as possible.
