Description

Your holiday home is almost 200 years old and we have tried to preserve its atmosphere as much as possible, not least by antique furnishing of the living rooms and bedrooms.
Through the front door you enter the kitchen and living room with natural stone walls, a large kitchen fireplace and a small fireplace, in front of which you can eat regional and Mediterranean products - there are also cookbooks for this - enjoy wine and relax. Of course, there is also a ceramic hob and electric oven and everything you need to prepare a good meal. The fridge, washing machine and dishwasher are relegated to a small back room so as not to disturb the homeliness. There are also maps and information about the village and the surrounding area, for excursions and walks through the Corbières - and even holiday reading related to the region!
The old terracotta staircase leads you to the first floor, to the bathroom with an old cast-iron bathtub, antique washbasin and shower cubicle and WC, a bedroom with a queen-size bed and a separate WC, and the "children's room" with two single beds, an iron one in an alcove with a curtain and a wooden bed.
Then you continue upstairs and through the summer kitchen with hotplates and a small fridge for the refreshing rosé you can enjoy on the roof terrace, which is greened and flowered with many plants, e.g. with barbecued food on the charcoal grill. Here you are completely to yourself, although in the middle of the village, you can sunbathe on the deckchairs or dine under the usually impressive starry sky and make your next excursion plans. And for breakfast there, you'll find croissants, baguettes and more about 50 steps away at our bakery on the village square.

And if, contrary to expectations, you get bored or can't find something you're looking for: I live only about 200 m from your house and will be happy to help you with tips and information that you didn't find in the house - and, of course, should any mishap happen to you.

Location and surroundings of object

La Placette is an old stone house in a narrow lane in a spot with a tree, in the middle of Bizanet, a typical French winegrowing village in the Corbières. The village is surrounded by vines and accordingly wine lovers have a lot to taste, at the cooperative and at self-pressing winegrowers, of course also in the nearer or further neighbouring villages!
Apart from the bakery in the village square, there is a restaurant a little above the square, on the way there a small café for a refreshing pastis and a few steps further a pizzeria and a small supermarket for fruit, vegetables and all survival necessities!
There are also pine trees and olive trees in and around Bizanet, and with them lovely little walks that start right on the doorstep - and many others a little further afield, such as at the Abbaye of Fontfroide (4 km). The abbey can of course be visited, which is also recommended. But behind it there are nice hiking possibilities, also to the cross above it with a beautiful view down to the grounds and far into the surroundings. And you can also eat very well in the abbey!
Many beautiful little roads will lead you through the Corbières, through lovely old villages, to the breathtakingly situated Cathar castles, such as Quéribus and Peyrepertuse in particular, over hilltops and through gorges - you will find the right thing here for all demands, tastes, dreams, and depending on your fitness. And in various places you can refresh yourself after a hike in beautiful spots in the little rivers, for example at the foot of Peyrepertuse. One particularly beautiful of these roads leads 17 km from us to Fontjoncouse, where you can hike or also have an exceptional meal in one of the best restaurants in France (3 Michelin stars!).
So La Placette is a good starting point into the Corbières, but also the medieval city of Carcassonne is easy to reach - for example on a nice little road that I can describe to you.
And on the way there is the medieval town of Lagrasse, which is well worth seeing, with a Roman bridge over which you can reach the abbey, which is also interesting, also with nice river bathing possibilities.
And there are many other gems hidden in the mountains, such as Villerouge Termenès (with a very beautiful, well restored castle, which also houses a restaurant where you can sample dishes from the XIII-XIV centuries in an authentic atmosphere).
And along the Canal du Midi, you can take a relaxing flat walk along the former towpaths, under ancient pine trees, and...

Those interested in Roman provincial history will find frescoes and mosaics rarely preserved in the province, as well as many objects found, in the "NARBO VIA" museum in Narbonne. And on the square in front of the archbishop's palace you can even walk on a piece of the VIA DOMITIA! Next door, the cathedral is also worth a visit, some other medieval churches and buildings - and the city itself! For rest and refreshment, there are of course cafés and restaurants in Narbonne, including one awarded 2 Michelin stars.

And last but not least, the sea is not too far away to relax and refresh yourself in it and on the long and wide sandy beaches - but without being constantly exposed to the hustle and bustle of the beach and the numerous mosquitoes there towards evening...
