Zeelandküste
The area around the house Veere in Walcheren, one of the most beautiful places in Zeeland can perhaps still best described as a historic monument at Veere Lake. In addition to special memorials Veere is also very 'green' and not won in vain the second place in the competition 'the greenest city in the Netherlands' (Entente Florale) in 2000. cultural history and nature are in this town, which in the 16th century for its trade became acquainted with Scottish wool, in perfect harmony. The magnificent town hall, the proud Onze Lieve Vrouwenkerk that many stairs, Beak, frame and bells facades - the whole town is made monuments. A walk through Veere is a journey through the past.
The peninsulas Schouwen-Duiveland, Tholen, North and Südbeveland, Walcheren and Zeeland Flanders make up the Zeeland coast. From the north via Renesse Domburg, Oost- and West Chapel to Cadzand in the south, the varied range of Zeeland resorts ranges. The "Island" Schouwen-Duiveland is surrounded by the North Sea, the Oosterschelde and the Grevelingenmeer. Zeeland and storm surge barrier are the links to the other Zeelandinseln.
The Grevelingenmeer offers excellent opportunities for swimming, diving, sailing, surfing, water skiing and much more. Boaters arrive via the lock-Bruinisse to the North Sea.
Definitely worth a visit are the old sleepy town Zierikzee, Burgh-Haamstede, Brouwershaven, Renesse, Scharendijke and the ring village Dreischor. Resort Renesse is popular mainly among young travelers. In the many bars and discos is always something going on.
Domburg (Walcheren) is one of the North Sea baths aditionsreichsten the Netherlands. The wide beach is loved by families with children. Nearby is Oostkapelle. September applies in Zeeland as a cultural month - the late summer festival is waiting for a month with a varied cultural program. Typically Zeeland: the Muscheltag in Yerseke, by September the mussel season will kick - free sampling of the new harvest and Fleet Show included.
Here you can visit the modern marinas or enter nature islands for picnic in the countryside. The Westerschelde, the last open connection to the sea, is a real challenge for experienced sailors. Surfer found mainly on the Veerse Sea and the Grevelingenmeer your fun. Also you can even go water skiing here. For diving the lakes are also very suitable.
The Grevelingenmeer is Europe's largest saltwater lake. In the Oosterschelde, the salt water of the North Sea is mixed with the fresh water. Many listed buildings in the historic towns and villages are witnesses of the rich commercial and fishing past. The picturesque town of Veere has an impressive town hall, an interesting harbor and cute little houses - really a place for romantics. In the port city of Vlissingen you can see much of the old history of Zeeland. At the Westerschelde there is a long promenade with views of ships that are traveling to Antwerp. Middelburg is the capital of Zeeland.
