Finca Ansite - El Refugio
"El Refugio" is a more than 100 years old natural stone stable building, which was lovingly and down to the detail, restored and expanded. It is part of our finca, located directly on the largest palm forest of Gran Canaria and surrounded by the scenic overwhelming "Caldera de Tirajana". Who seeks peace, nature or adventure away from the tourist bustle; who seeks originality, tradition and rural culture; If you are looking for tips, suggestions or help for an adventure holiday, then you are in the right place and welcome. Our guesthouse offers comfortable space for two single persons or a couple with up to two children. It is embedded in our finca with subtropical garden, two horses, a collie, a few cats and chickens. These are special experiences and encounters that our guests with small children appreciate. At any time and with a lot of dedication, we help you to organize and plan hiking and horseback excursions for both young and old. As passionate sea lovers and divers, we can also give valuable tips and assistance in this area. Whether snorkeling, diving or spin fishing on the shores of Gran Canaria we know where, with whom and how. Even in the field of botany, there are many interesting things to see and admire here through our family's own cactus and succulent gardening. And if you do not need all of this and just want to relax and unwind then you will also get their money's worth here. The view directly into the palm grove and the mountain massif of "Amurga", the often starry nights and the "singsong" of nature let the spirit come to rest and unwind.

Our finca is located in the small hamlet, "La Sorrueda", at about 500 meters above sea level and only 3 km from the picturesque mountain village of "Santa Lucia". Even the journey here is spectacular. Approximately A 40-minute drive from the airport, after a short section of the motorway, you will reach the mountains of the south-east slope of the island. We now follow the road "Los Cuchillos" which is famous for its unforgettable views of the gorge and the rock formations of the "Barranco" and the "Caldera de Tirajana". Worth seeing is "La Sorrueda" mainly because of its large palm forest, its pitoresque reservoir which has also spoken around with anglers and its "Barrancos", its own biotope and creekbed that enjoys great popularity with climbers. The whole area is a paradise for hikers and nature lovers. Archaeological-historical worth seeing is the cave complex "La Fortaleza" - "Ansite" with its Interprätationszentrum. It is an important place from the pre-Spanish period when the last major battles were fought in the conquest of Gran Canaria. It was the last abode of the natives to which they made the Spanish conquerors bitter resistance. Legend has it that Bentejuí, son of a king and rebel leader, along with his spiritual leader, the Faycán, fell from the rocks of Ansites to death after the defeat was inevitable. Her last calls were: "Atis Tirma" - "For Our Earth". "Santa Lucia" is an authentic and lovely mountain village with all shops and utilities - restaurants, shops, pharmacy, post office, doctor, etc. From here you can wonderfully explore both the interior of the island with the Massif Central and its spectacular views, as well as the East and South coast of Gran Canaria with its dunes and fantastic beaches.

Dreamlike vacation in a finca
Pure relaxation and tranquility, we were able to experience for two weeks in the rural finca with Michael and Fiona. We were warmly welcomed and received many valuable tips for hiking, secluded beaches, snorkeling, cities, shopping, and good food. We also enjoyed fresh vegetables, eggs, and excellent goat cheese upon request. A tour of the family garden, a shared, cozy dinner with intense, interesting conversations rounded everything off. We felt very comfortable, even the dog Leica made sure of that, and nothing was missing. We would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts and are already looking forward to seeing you again! Vacation with warm hosts
We spent wonderfully beautiful and relaxing four weeks in the traditional guest house of Finca Ansite el Refugio. The beautifully landscaped garden invites you to linger, and the animal family members were a great joy to us. Our landlords Fiona and Michael supplied us with fresh, organically grown fruits and vegetables and various delicacies. They also gave us valuable tips for hiking in the mountains and trips to the sea for swimming and snorkeling away from mass tourism. They were always concerned about our well-being. We can wholeheartedly recommend this accommodation and the great hosts. Many thanks for this unforgettable stay to Fiona and Michael. We would love to come back next year.

Cosy finca in a quiet location
Unfortunately, we only visited Michael and Fiona for a short time in the sweet, traditional and cosy finca in the fantastically beautiful location in the mountains of Gran Canaria. We felt very comfortable in the fully equipped holiday flat. Our hosts were always helpful with advice and also the animal neighbours were very friendly :)

Beautiful accommodation
We felt completely at home. In the middle of the mountains in a quiet location, the accommodation is ideally situated for great day trips, a good starting point to explore the island in its diversity: Beach, cliffs, mountains, caves, etc...
The accommodation offers everything for a relaxing holiday: fresh products according to season and demand, beautiful terrace and very tastefully decorated. The hosts know the island very well and give very helpful tips when needed
There is also a lot to discover for plant lovers. Even horseback rides are possible
We liked it so much that we extended our stay there. A little paradise, and highly recommended!
