Torgiano is an ancient little town situated not far from Perugia; it lies on the hills overlooking the valley where the River Chiascio joins the River Tevere. A very ancient settlement, it was an important fortress destined to control, in the medieval period, one of the most important bridges on the Tevere (Pontenuovo), the tower of which was pulled down during the Second World War. The town, which retains a typical medieval appearance, preserves remains of the ancient walls and an imponent tower, become with the passing of time, the symbol of the town. The communal territory is made of low hills where, since the ancient times, vines and olives have been grown. Nowadays a great deal of vineyards, extending as far as the eye can see, is specialized and of the highest quality, producing famous wines appreciated all over the world.
