A true paradise for nature lovers and dog owners!

We spent a wonderful time in this dreamlike house in Umbria, in the region of Perugia. Located in the middle of a truffle forest, it is the perfect place for anyone seeking peace, nature, and relaxation.

We were there with our Doberman and felt completely comfortable. The huge property offers incredible space and freedom, allowing dogs to enjoy nature to the fullest. This estate is simply ideal for a vacation with a dog! The house is a wonderful retreat for families and nature lovers. The magnificent pool provides a welcome refreshment on warm days, while the beautiful surroundings invite relaxation, exploration, and enjoyment.

Those who love original Italy, prefer to vacation away from the hustle and bustle, and want nature right at their doorstep will love this special place. Here, one can unwind, let the soul dangle, and enjoy the tranquility of the Umbrian landscape. A dream property with a huge plot, pool, and a unique location in the middle of the truffle forest. Highly recommended for families, nature lovers, and especially for dog owners! We would come back anytime. ? ☀️? ?

Ideal!

A friend had spoken very highly of it, but it was below what I found. The place is enchanting, a kind of small private village in the countryside, just a stone's throw away (if you want, even walking, there were Russians doing it twice a day) from Spoleto. Pool included (I didn't try it, it was still too cold for that). The apartment was truly such, not a small room, large and comfortable, with a perfectly equipped kitchen and above all, for me who doesn't sleep in new beds, a fantastic bed. The real winning card, however, is the hosts: Francesca and Ludovico. Ask and it will be given to you, but with spontaneity, exactly the opposite of the flattery from those who you can tell don't care about you but have to do it otherwise they get bad ratings on TripAdvisor. A kindness from another time, everything is possible, truly a hospitality of great gentlemen. As usual, it is the people who make the difference. It was an ideal stay, truly.

Which sights are there in Umbria?

Picturesque cities in Umbria

Umbria is rich in attractions and potential destinations. Rent an affordable holiday apartment or cozy holiday home from private owners and find out for yourself. A top tip is undoubtedly the capital Perugia. The city is situated on a hill and was one of the twelve most powerful places of the Etruscan tribe. Many historical monuments and buildings have been preserved in the city center. In Perugia, you can enjoy a unique atmosphere and great cultural offer. Assisi is the next popular destination. It's the famous birthplace of Saint Francis of Assisi, the founder of the Franciscan order. Assisi is one of the important Christian pilgrimage cities in Italy. Visit Mount Subasio or stroll through the picturesque streets of the old town. Particularly impressive is the Basilica of San Francesco, the burial church of Saint Francis of Assisi. The city of Orvieto is also a must-see, with its temporary papal residence during the Middle Ages leaving its mark on the town center. You'll find sacred buildings, a beautiful sculpture garden, and even something for wine lovers.

What do you need to experience in Umbria?

Old and even older walls

Santa Maria degli Angeli is a basilica located in the plain below Assisi. It was built around the Portiuncula Chapel and the death chapel of Saint Francis of Assisi. The World Prayer Meeting took place here twice. Another major highlight during a holiday in Umbria is the town of Bettona, where you can find medieval walls and even the remains of Etruscan walls. In the town center, there is the Church of S. Maria Maggiore with works by Nicolò Alunno and Perugino, a fresco by Gerardo Dottori, and a beautiful surrounding area with the village of Colle and an Etruscan Hypogeum from the 2nd century BC, which houses ash urns in a large rectangular burial chamber. The town of San Venanzo is also impressive, with its huge tower, the remains of a medieval castle, and the Church Madonna Liberatrice. However, the most stunning thing here is the untouched natural landscape, considered among the most charming in Umbria. Near the summit of Monte Peglia lies the Sette Frati Park, home to a protected faunistic reserve and an environmental documentation center of the mountain.

What can you experience in Umbria with children?

The original Valentine's Day in Umbria

Your Casa or Villa is waiting for you! Book a beautiful holiday apartment or holiday home and experience an unforgettable vacation with the whole family. Lago Trasimeno (Lake Trasimeno, also known as Lake Trasimene, or Trasimene) is always popular with young and old. The lake is located in a quiet area northwest of Perugia, from where you can also take fantastic day trips to charming cities in the region. Another great family destination is the city of Terni in the province of Terni, which was founded during the Bronze Age. On February 14th, the festival of St. Valentine, the patron saint of lovers, takes place here. Close to the city, you can also see Europe's largest waterfall – the Marmore Waterfall. Monti Sibillini National Park is another ideal destination for families. The park includes the highest mountain range of the Umbrian and Marche Apennines. Visit Visso, the headquarters of the national park, the Valnerina Gorge, the Monte Bove massif, or Norcia, the home of the European Patron Saint, S. Benedetto. The town is famous for its enchanting historic center, which is well-known beyond Umbria's borders.

Where can I eat out in Umbria?

Sweets, pork, and traditional dishes

Rent a holiday apartment or a holiday home and enjoy not only Umbria's attractions and culture but also discover its culinary world. You'll find that Umbria offers a regional cuisine of the highest class that has not succumbed to touristic compromises. In small trattorias or osterias, you can enjoy typical dishes (piatti tipici) or snacks (spuntini). Roasted white bread slices refined with garlic and olive oil and a glass of spicy Sagrantino or bread with truffle pâté and an Orvieto secco are typical dishes. Delicious soups made from spelt and small lentils, artichokes, porcini mushrooms, or truffles are also common. Pork plays a special role in the local cuisine, with Umbria's hams and sausages sought after throughout the country. Pork from Umbria stands for quality. Around Lake Trasimeno and in Orvieto, many fish dishes are served. The locals also have a sweet tooth, and the world-famous chocolate balls Baci Perugina are a must-try. In winter, you can often find tartudo al marrone, a bittersweet cake made from chestnut flour. Water and wine are the preferred drinks, with beer often more expensive than wine.

What is a must-see in Umbria?

Fabulous history of Umbria

Umbria is a region with countless cultural highlights. Places like Castel Rigone, Città della Pieve, or Passignano are major attractions. Your holiday apartment or holiday home is the perfect starting point to explore the cultural world of Umbria. Impressive buildings, villas, and structures can be found in Perugia, such as the Arco d'Augusto (an Etruscan city gate with inscriptions from the Roman imperial era), the Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo (a magnificent palace), the Palazzo di Priori (a Gothic building from the 13th and 14th centuries, which today serves as the town hall) or the Baroque Palazzo Gallenga (currently the famous foreign university). In Assisi, we recommend visiting the Temple of Minerva, which dates back to the 1st century AD and testifies to the city's former wealth. The Museo Civico e Foro Romano in Assisi is also worth a visit, showcasing Umbrian and Roman artifacts from ancient times. In the city of Terni, you can admire extraordinary finds in the archaeological museum, including war graves, inscriptions, and statues. Other exciting museums can be found in Deruta (Ceramics Regional Museum), Orvieto (Museo Pozzo della Carva in an ancient, inhabited cave), or Perugia (National Gallery). A top highlight is undoubtedly the Roman amphitheater in Terni, dating back to 32 BC, which hosts numerous concerts and performances during the summer.

How do I come to Umbria?

Head to the heart of Italy

Spend your holidays in a holiday apartment or a holiday home in one of the most beautiful regions in Southern Europe. The Umbria region is located in the heart of Italy, between Tuscany, Lazio, and Marche. Umbria has around 889,000 inhabitants, spread across 92 municipalities. Perugia is the capital of Umbria. Almost 30 percent of the total area is mountainous, making it ideal for a mountain holiday in Umbria. If you're flying to your villa or apartment, you'll usually land at Perugia Airport. There are cheap direct flights twice a week from Frankfurt am Main. The nearest major airports are in Rome, Ancona, or Florence. If you prefer to travel by train, you can take the ÖBB NightJet from Munich/Salzburg, which goes directly to Orvieto in southern Umbria. For Northern or Central Umbria, you can get off in Arezzo and continue by regional train to Lago Trasimeno or the Province of Perugia. The Rome-Florence line runs through southwestern Umbria, stopping at Orvieto, served by regional express and intercity trains. The Rome-Ancona regional express runs through eastern Umbria, stopping at Spoleto, Foglino, Terni, and Fossato di Vico or Gubbio.
