Swallow's Nest Holiday Apartment

In the Hülsmann house (Swallow's Nest), hospitality and cleanliness are highly valued. We were warmly welcomed, and when we were shown the holiday apartment, we were quite amazed. Lovingly furnished, beautifully decorated, and very, very clean. Even our Rocky was thought of; everything was ready. We can only say thank you, thank you, thank you; unfortunately, the days went by so quickly, and we had to go home again. We can wholeheartedly recommend this accommodation and these hosts, and we all agree that we want to go back there.

So beautiful there!

That was our 3rd long-term vacation at Ankerhuus Funnix (each 8 weeks!) and it certainly won't be the last.
We simply feel at home in the cozy Ankerhuus. It is well-equipped with everything you need. The location is beautiful, wonderfully quiet, away from the tourist hustle, yet close to the North Sea. The large garden is a dream for dogs.
The landlords, the housekeeper, and the neighbors are all really nice; you just feel welcome.
We will come back next year!

Dream vacation

The accommodation is amazing; we were with 2 families in this place, and everyone had enough space. The huge garden with trampoline and toys and the mega covered terrace was really the highlight. It is a house that was built after World War II, so there is probably a musty smell, but it didn't bother us. If you can do without frills, this accommodation is really recommendable. We will definitely come back.

Excursions to the neighboring islands and to seal banks are also highly recommended. In Wittmund and its surroundings, vacationers interested in art and history will find over a dozen early medieval churches with rich interiors. Notably, the St. Mary's Church (1230) built from granite blocks in Buttforde and the magnificent Baroque church in Carolinensiel (1776) with its original interior are highlights. However, you can opt for other delicious fish varieties offered warm and richly aromatic in numerous smokehouses! The freshly caught shrimp landing at the locks are another top specialty, but this delicacy is heavily affected by overfishing and is becoming smaller... The best way to enjoy fish is "in a bun," and thus you will find fish bun stations ("Buden") all along the East Frisian coast. In winter, you must try the hearty "kale with sausage," and throughout the year, you can sample "Labskaus." This preference is not unique to East Frisia but common along the entire North German coast. Regional specialties include "Snirtjebraten" or "Rintjebraten": pork or beef marinated in a special recipe usually involving cloves, juniper berries, bay leaves, and allspice. East Frisians create numerous delicious specialties from dairy and whey products. Just the regional butter or buttermilk products ("Buttermilchbrei") are delicious. When it comes to unique East Frisian specialties, you can't miss the Frisian tea culture!
