Evil is Kept at Bay
Michelstadt boasts a beautiful historic half-timbered old town. This includes several noteworthy buildings. For example, visit the half-timbered town hall, which is considered a landmark. It dates back to 1484 and is a Gothic structure with three little towers. Also worth seeing is the market fountain, built in 1575. The column features the Archangel Michael, who with his flaming sword and the scales of souls is supposed to ward off evil. One of the oldest water dispensers in the city is the Mother-in-Law Fountain. Also impressive are the Old Court Pharmacy, a half-timbered building from 1557. Other highlights include the late Gothic town church or the synagogue from 1791. The remnants of the city wall with the Thief's Tower can also still be visited. The "Michelstadt Castle" is a half-timbered complex on the former city wall. Today, you will find the Odenwald Regional Museum and the tourist information office here. For families, the Toy Museum or the Motorcycle Museum are highly suitable. In the district of Steinbach, you can visit the Einhard Basilica, completed in 827. In the hamlet of Eulbach, there is Eulbach Park, an English landscape garden perfect for relaxing and lingering. Also impressive are the Roman bath and the fortresses as part of the Neckar-Odenwald Limes. On the Michelstadt cemetery, you will find the late Gothic Holy Cross Chapel. Have you rented an apartment or a residence in winter? Then we recommend a visit to the local Christmas market. The Christmas market is very traditional, and it is very romantic to stroll through it in winter. Before Pentecost, the Bee Market takes place regularly, one of the largest folk festivals in the Odenwald. The program includes a flower parade and fireworks. Theater and art also play a big role here. For example, visit the Patat cabaret stage, the Erbach-Michelstadt Theater Summer (open-air plays in front of the town hall), or the Theaterkarren e.V. Since 2007, the Erbach-Michelstadt Museum Night has been held in the fall. Explore the many sights and attractions of the region with your family. Also, hike through the idyllic nature and enjoy the relaxing tranquility. Surrounding places like Heppenheim, Beerfelden, Oberzent, Grasellenbach, the spa town of Bad König, or Mossautal are ideal for hiking or cycling tours.
Apple Wine and Music in Michelstadt
Book an apartment or a holiday home in Michelstadt, for example in Rehbach, and also sample the Odenwald cuisine. Typical for the Odenwald region is the potato sausage. It is a blood sausage made from pork, blood, rinds, and potatoes. In times of need, bacon was once replaced by potatoes. This variation is still very popular today. Michelstadt and all of Hessen are also known for apple wine, Handkäs with music, or Odenwald cooked cheese. Here, you can visit the brewery restaurant at the German House and enjoy typical regional cuisine. Other dining options include Zum Grünen Baum, Café Siebert, Drei Hasen, or Rathausbräu.
