Stylish apartment with great view

The holiday apartment is located in a tastefully restored former station building, nestled in the fields and meadows of Altmark.
There are great views of the surrounding countryside all around. The apartment is very comfortable and the kitchen is equipped with high-quality appliances. Throughout the property, there are inviting seating areas where you can watch the hares or listen to the crickets in the summer. We found Mr. Poppinga to be a very pleasant and courteous host.

What do you need to experience in Arendsee?

Quiet Highlights That Are Quite Grand

Arendsee's most important attraction is the Gothic monastery church dedicated to three saints, hence named St. Marien, St. Johannis, and St. Nikolaus. Arendsee Monastery was once a Benedictine monastery. The historic brick monastery church impresses with its magnificent architecture. It is a former monastery church of the Benedictine nuns (tours on request) founded in the 12th century, with noteworthy features, the late Gothic Marien altar, and the early Gothic triumphal cross. The monastery buildings and the cloister are only partially preserved. Worth seeing are the local history museum in the former hospital of the nuns, and the 1731 built post mill Arendsee (visits by appointment). Do not miss booking a trip on the excursion steamer "Queen Arendsee" on Arendsee! Within a 20 km radius of your cozy accommodation, you will find interesting excursion destinations, with Salzwedel being the foremost. The small town is located at the confluence of the Dumme and Jeetzel, has a remarkable old town, and the Friedrich-Danneil-Museum with many historical exhibits from the Altmark. Romantic Lüchow in Wendland in Lower Saxony delights every visitor with its pretty half-timbered houses. Even Schnackenburg, although a tiny Elbe town, is definitely worth a visit. Just rent a comfortably furnished holiday accommodation in the health resort or an apartment or a holiday house at the edge of the forest with a kitchen and enjoy relaxing holidays with your family according to your personal wishes. The dream of a break from the stressful everyday life at home in one of the most beautiful regions of Germany comes true!

Where can I eat out in Arendsee?

Where to Get a "Dead Grandma"

The cuisine of Saxony-Anhalt has many delicious favorites. Numerous egg specialties or the egg itself are central, followed by potatoes and meaty main meals. Some quirky names turn out to be appetizing specialties such as "Klump," a stew in yeast dough made from potatoes or flour. Or the "Köthener Schusterpfanne," a pork roast baked with pears and potatoes. Not to forget the "Altmark Wedding Soup" with a filling of meatballs, egg custard, and asparagus. Sausage lovers can try the "Dead Grandma," a blood sausage specialty mixed and fried with onions, served with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes. A curiosity among the specialties is the "Würchwitzer Milbenkäse." It is made from dried low-fat curd stored in special wooden boxes and processed by cheese mites until it lightly ferments. The Altmark has its own specialties, including the "Salzwedeler Baumkuchen," which has even received the protected geographical indication or the EU quality label. Even Arendsee has a specialty, and that is the famous fish with the inconspicuous name "Kleine Maräne," which is counted among the salmon. The fish is small but wonderfully tasty and almost bone-free. The Kleine Maräne belongs to the fatty fish and makes a real delicacy when smoked.

How do I come to Arendsee?

Exploring Arendsee's Accommodations by Bike

Arendsee in Altmark is a state-recognized health resort in the north of Saxony-Anhalt. Its name is derived from the 5.4 m² large Arendsee lake, on whose shores it is situated. The town is connected to the federal highway B190, which you can reach from Salzwedel. Unfortunately, the railway line was discontinued in 2004. If you still want to reach your beautiful accommodation in Arendsee in an environmentally friendly way, then by bicycle.
