Location and surroundings of object

The Obermühle is located below the cathedral, in the shadow of the cathedral rock on the Lahn. Of all the mills, the Obermühle is the oldest mill in the city. It was first mentioned in 1237. Grain was ground in the Obermühle until the 1960s. Today, the mill wheel produces electricity that is fed into the public grid and used for domestic purposes. On the ground floor there is a traditional restaurant with a beautiful beer garden.

The well-known Lahntal cycle and hiking trail runs directly past the Obermühle, and there is also a boat landing stage for water sports enthusiasts in the immediate vicinity. You can explore the Lahn by boat "Das Wappen von Limburg" or by canoe.
Only a few minutes' walk (approx. 3 min) to the town centre with its very beautiful historic old town.

Limburg an der Lahn can be reached by car, train and bus. Wiesbaden and Koblenz are both only 20 minutes away by car and can be reached quickly by public transport. Frankfurt is only about 30 - 40 minutes away by car. Limburg has an ICE train connection with direct links to Cologne and Frankfurt as well as Frankfurt Airport.
Immerse yourself in the flow of time. In Limburg. Living Middle Ages in a modern town.
The first documented mention of the Lintpurc dates back to 910.
Limburg is located in the west of Hesse between the Taunus and the Westerwald on the river Lahn.

LIMBURG DOME:
Limburg Cathedral, also known as St George's Cathedral, towers above the old town of Limburg next to Limburg Castle. Its high position on the rocks above the Lahn ensures that the cathedral is visible from afar. Today, the building is considered one of the most accomplished creations of late Romanesque architecture. However, elements of the early Gothic period are also evident.

THEATRE:
The Limburg Town Hall, named after the former mayor and honorary citizen of Limburg an der Lahn, Josef Kohlmaier, since 1996, is used for shows, conferences, congresses and similar events. With the entire region between Westerwald and Taunus, it has a catchment area of almost people. There is no similarly frequented multi-purpose hall in the entire surrounding area. It has more than one visitor per year.

The cabaret stage "Thing", founded more than 25 years ago, moved after some time from its initial domicile in the Staffel district to the Limburg Town Hall (Josef-Kohlmaier-Halle), where today its stage is located in the club rooms of the Town Hall. The stage is supported by an independently operating association. The programme includes chanson, cabaret, literature and jazz as well as folk, rock and performances by songwriters. The focus is on promoting young artists. Two or three events are offered per month.

MUSEUMS:
There are several museums in Limburg. The most important are:
- Art Collections of the City of Limburg, which offer changing art exhibitions
- Staurothek, Cathedral Treasury and Diocesan Museum with the Limburg Staurotheque
- Limburg Naval Museum
- Mission Museum of the Pallottines

OLD TOWN:
The lovingly restored half-timbered houses are partly hall houses with ground floor halls up to 5m high and deep vaulted cellars. The families worked and lived in these halls. The hearth fire burned in the background. The large cellars were storage cellars and places to store local wine. Only later were the high halls divided by false ceilings, creating very low rooms that were difficult to live in.
One of the most important renovation goals from 1970 onwards was the restoration of these halls and their use as sales and restaurant rooms.

in 1978, Limburg was awarded a gold medal in the federal competition "Stadtgestaltung und Denkmalschutz im Städtebau".

In the lively old town you will find a large number of original specialist shops from a wide range of sectors. It is definitely worth taking an extensive stroll through the interesting shops.

Very cosy flat

A very cosy and spacious flat in close proximity to the old town of Limburg, which is really worth seeing. The bedrooms are large and have very comfortable beds, the large living room is very cosy, the kitchen is small but perfectly adequate, as is the bathroom. We received a very friendly welcome and were well looked after. You can go on really nice hikes just a few kilometres away.

Short holiday

we stayed in the flat for three nights. The flat impresses with its proximity to the old town of Limburg. The way there leads along the Lahn - beautiful!

The flat itself offers enough space for 4 adults, 2 beds in the gallery are more suitable for children or young people. We were missing wine glasses in the furnishings. It would have been nice if the damage to the armrest of the couch had either been repaired or covered more attractively. We had booked bed linen. We had to look for the bed linen and make the beds ourselves
Basically the flat was clean. The location and the history of the Obermühle are the plus points of this flat.

recommend for: holiday without car, cultural and sightseeing holiday
