Chickenhouse-Casa Galo
Description
The Chickenhouse Algarve is a peaceful place, nestled in the established village life of one of the most authentic spots in the Algarve. The house, with its three boutique apartments, is located in the center of Ferragudo, a fishing village with around 2,500 inhabitants at the mouth of the Rio Arade. The Chickenhouse in Ferragudo is subject to local building regulations for the preservation of the historic village image, so that new buildings integrate respectfully into the existing structure. Against this background, the Chickenhouse was created—a modest house with a clear architectural concept and deliberately minimalist apartments.
The Chickenhouse consists of three individually designed boutique holiday apartments. Each apartment follows a common concept, without standardized floor plans or fixed usage patterns. The architecture is calm, clear, and functional, and blends naturally into the surroundings. Materials, colors, and room layouts were chosen to support rather than dominate. The aim is not a staged stay, but a place where guests arrive, return, and stay.
The Chickenhouse is aimed at people who appreciate exactly this atmosphere—solo travelers, couples, and small families with a maximum of two children—who are not looking for a closed-off holiday world, but for orientation, clarity, and a balanced relationship between retreat and village life. Thanks to its central location, life does not take place elsewhere, but right outside the door. Shopping, a coffee in the square, a walk to the harbor or the beach are naturally part of it. Longer stays during quieter seasons are also possible, as each holiday apartment in Ferragudo is suitable both for a classic vacation and for a structured everyday life.
As boutique holiday apartments, the Chickenhouse offers orientation instead of excess. It is a house for people who consciously decide where and how they want to live. For guests who want not only to visit Ferragudo, but to understand it. The stay in each apartment leaves space for the place, for personal rhythms, and for a calm, clear way of traveling.
The Chickenhouse is located in the center of Ferragudo in the Algarve. The location is central and at the same time embedded in the established village structure, where everyday life, visitors, and local life meet.
As part of the historic village center, the house offers proximity, short distances, and—depending on the season—a tangible village rhythm. Ferragudo is not an artificially created holiday destination, but a real place with its own continuity. Guests here do not stay in a closed resort complex, but right in the middle of village life.
Ferragudo is a charismatic fishing village that has preserved its scale and structure. The place thrives on togetherness. Locals, day visitors, and holidaymakers share squares, alleys, and cafés quite naturally.
The landmark of the village is the Castelo de São João do Arade. The historic castle is located at Praia da Angrinha, where the sea flows into the Rio Arade. It recalls the long history of Ferragudo and still shapes the village image today. At the same time, it stands symbolically for protection, permanence, and the close connection between place, river, and sea.
Those who want to explore the region can decide flexibly. Rental cars can be hired locally for short periods and provide independence.
The atmosphere around the Chickenhouse is shaped by the daily and seasonal rhythm of Ferragudo. Mornings begin quietly, the light spreads over the river, and movement gradually increases throughout the day.
In the evening, streets and squares become livelier. Despite this vibrancy, there is no feeling of overstimulation. Ferragudo remains manageable and down-to-earth.
Ferragudo has grown historically and is still clearly recognizable as a village. Ferragudo does not see itself as a pure holiday stage, but as a living space where living, working, and visiting merge.
Tourism integrates into the existing structures instead of replacing them. Locals and guests share the same places, paths, and rhythm.
Shops for daily needs, meeting points, market activity, and basic services are easily accessible.
Ferragudo works without great distances and at the same time remains open to movement outward, without defining itself by it.
The atmosphere of Ferragudo is shaped by the daily and seasonal rhythm. Mornings begin quietly. Life unfolds evenly throughout the day. In the evening, the village becomes livelier.
