Description

The view stretches over the village, wooded mountains, and down into the Transylvanian plain.

The special atmosphere can be felt in every corner. We have awakened slumbering jewels from decades-long deep sleep and respectfully added modern living aspects. Now the holiday home is a good choice especially for families with children who, during their vacation in Romania, would rather experience the way of life of bygone times than splash around in the chlorinated pool of a five-star hotel. In the brick house we are currently renovating every cm², but everything will be finished by May 30. Let yourself be surprised. Then you can book the entire farmhouse for up to 8 (or even 10) people, at a special price for summer 2026.

You enter the old farmhouse via the external hallway and reach the spacious living room with kitchen, tiled stove, and seating for up to 10 people. The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering with fridge-freezer, induction stove, dishwasher, kettle, espresso/coffee machine, toaster, of course plenty of dishes, spices, soaps, etc. Two dormer windows provide the room with light and morning sunshine from above.
The two bedrooms are furnished with double beds and antique wardrobes. The shower room has a washing machine.
A staircase leads from the outer hallway up to the rustic attic. Here you can relax with a glass of wine and the impressive view of the village and the sun-drenched surrounding mountains.

On the south terrace you will find two acacia tables and an old wine barrel. At the end is the second kitchenette, just as fully equipped as the kitchen in the wooden house, but with a gas stove. It is modeled on the traditional way of life here, in which summer living and working mostly take place outdoors. The same idea is followed by the second shower room, located directly next to the terrace.

Fast Wi-Fi is available via fiber optic throughout the entire property, and each room has an LED TV with cable and satellite connection for receiving German channels. Upon your arrival, you will find the beds freshly made, and bath, hand, and kitchen towels are provided. Hot water is produced by a solar system, and heating is provided by a gas boiler in combination with the tiled stove, which, via built-in water pipes, supplies a buffer tank and, through this, all the radiators in the house. The interaction runs automatically. You only need to set the desired temperature on a room thermostat and do not have to worry about anything else. Firewood is included.

As mentioned, we are still working on the brick house, and therefore there will only be pictures here at the end of May. They will show two spacious double rooms, furnished similarly to those in the old wooden house, a third bathroom, and a hallway with a third kitchen. In the courtyard, flowers and grass have been planted or sown. To simulate the vegetation for the month of June, we have resorted to artificial intelligence in order to already show how we envision the result. At a glance:
• Farm with 2 holiday homes for 8 people
• Wooden house: 2 double rooms, bathroom with washing machine, large living room with fully equipped kitchen
• Brick house: 2 double rooms, bathroom, kitchenette
• South-facing terrace in the courtyard with summer kitchen + shower bathroom

• Special price for bookings until 31. 05. 2026

••• The Shepherd Village Vale •••

. . . is remote enough for fox and hare to wish each other good night, yet just over 5 km from the highway that brings all the sights of Transylvania closer. An asphalt road touches the village, but most of it stretches over cobblestones and a footpath up into the hills. For this reason too, traditional structures and unspoiled hospitality have largely withstood the advancing modern age. Horses, sheep, and poultry are still part of the village scene, and the farmers take up the scythe and plant potatoes, corn, and vegetables, which they preserve for the winter.
There is a children's playground and a small family shop at the village square – more shops, restaurants, a bank with an EC-Visa ATM, and a market with farm products can be found in the small town of Saliste, 2 km away. What is missing here can be found in Sibiu, 20 km away, at the Zibins market, in retail stores or in department store chains like Real, Kaufland or Lidl.
Some say that time has stood still here at some point. That many things are not perfect, the nature is unique and untouched, and the breath of bygone times is noticeable in every corner. And that perhaps it is precisely this mix that creates the charm of the extraordinary, before it is swallowed up by civilizational progress. Until then, take a look around. ___________________________________________

••• Transylvania - Siebenbürgen •••

. . . is the land of castles and monasteries, fortified churches, and legendary places. Only a few are well known, such as Dracula's Castle in Bran, the Sphinx megalith in the Bucegi Mountains, or Sarmizegetusa, the capital of the vanished Dacian culture. But they can be found everywhere: as a quiet gem by the wayside, as a monumental fortress on solid rock, or as a hand-decorated token of love for craftsmanship in a monastery in the forest. An overview of all highlights would exceed the scope of this page, but if you are interested, you can find them in the photo gallery on our homepage • casa-vale.net • .

additional information:

The village of Vale is located in the center of the Marginimea Sibiului (Hermannstadt Border Area) – one of the most tradition-rich regions of Romania. It lies at the foot of the Cindrel Mountains, and the remains of a Dacian fortress bear witness to a turbulent past. The Dacians are said to have customs in common with the Irish Celts, and they settled here long before the arrival of the Roman legions. Here are some examples of excursions in the area:
In Saliste, a farm track starts through the oldest beech forest on the continent. It leads up to Poiana Soarelui (Sun Glade), where dozens of hand-carved wooden sculptures are scattered across the mountain meadows. They are the result of years of work by sculptors and carvers from all parts of the country in the 1960s. The view of the Transylvanian plain here is unique. In the neighboring village of Sibiel you will find the largest icon museum with reverse glass painting in Romania. Here you walk along a mountain stream to a monastery in the middle of the forest. Two villages further on you can marvel at the jumping fish in the mountain lake of Gura Raului, and on the way back, in the stork village of Cristian (Großau), you can stop by one of the oldest Saxon fortified churches. It gives an impression of how people barricaded themselves centuries ago against Tatars, Huns, Turks, and Kuruc irregulars.

Anyone who wants to take a closer look at the splendor of the Carpathians can choose between two passable north-south routes:
• the Transfagarasan – passing by a waterfall dozens of meters high and steeply rising cliffs. At the top of the pass is the mountain lake Balea Lac with a hostel made of ice.
• the Transalpina is the highest route across the Carpathians. Built by the Romans during the campaign against the Dacians, it was newly fortified by the German Wehrmacht during the World War, then fell into oblivion, and today presents one of the most unspoiled mountain regions in Europe.
In both cases, you reach Wallachia, the southern part of Romania, a climate zone influenced by the Mediterranean.
For the return journey, the Olt Valley, located between the two passes, is suitable; it is the only north-south passage through the mountains. Along the majestic river, numerous monasteries have settled over the centuries, and those who do not stop here are usually in a hurry.

If you have seen enough mountains and steep slopes, you can turn to the valley. Since then, German-Flemish serfs from the Archbishopric of Cologne settled in the Carpathian Arc and founded their own state. The Transylvanian Saxons were the first professing Lutherans in Europe and also offered protection to others persecuted for their religion. One of its first marketplaces, the European Capital of Culture Sibiu-Hermannstadt, has not shaken off the Middle Ages to this day. The old town, defensive towers and city walls have been largely restored, and right next to them bars in vaults, hard rock cafés and (survival) art have developed. In summer, the city opens itself to its visitors and organizes various events on the central Great Square, from small-scale art and theater to open-air concerts and exhibitions of local craft guilds.

One or two visits are worthwhile to the ASTRA Museum of Traditional Village Art in the "Young Forest" on the edge of the city. Here, centuries-old log cabins, blacksmith workshops, water and saw mills from all parts of the country are exhibited. From here, it is just a stone’s throw to the fortified church of Michelsberg (Cisnadioara), a Protestant fortified church from the . It stands on a circular hilltop above the village, which was inhabited by Transylvanian Saxons until the fall of Ceausescu.
After you have wandered through the area for hours, you will feel it in your legs. In the salt and health spas of Salzburg (Ocna Sibiului), you can soothe aching bones, read the newspaper while floating in saltwater, or treat yourself to a professional massage or healing mud treatment at the adjacent spa center. The place has been considered a health resort for rheumatic diseases since then.

The Western Carpathians (Muntii Apuseni), together with the eastern Carpathian belt, enclose the Transylvanian plateau. In this wild and partly hard-to-reach region, the elders still tell stories today about the Dacians and their king Decebalus, who once united the quarrelling tribes and defeated the Roman legions. Today the region is known for its unique landscape and the many caves and abandoned tunnels, which sometimes extend hundreds of meters into the rock, and in whose depths skeletons of dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals have been found. If you get up early, you can get a taste of this exciting area on a day trip.

Wherever you turn, you will experience something. Usually also things you would not have expected.
