Around the house, there is a beautiful garden accessible via a private entrance gate and offers various options for sitting sheltered from the wind and in the sun. For small children, there is a swing and a slide. Within walking distance from Jan van Tjaard, there is a cozy restaurant (400m), a large supermarket with its own bakery (500m), and the beach (1800m).
To reach the sleeping and living areas, a staircase with several steps must be climbed, making the house less suitable for people with mobility issues.

Terschelling
Terschelling is the third Frisian Island of the Netherlands, counting from the west. The island is bordered to the north by the North Sea and to the south by the Wadden Sea. To the southwest of Terschelling lies Vlieland and to the east Ameland. Throughout the year, many tourists come to the island for wonderful bike rides and walks along the beach and through the dunes. Apart from its unique nature, Terschelling also offers great attractions such as the port of West-Terschelling, built in the only bay in the Netherlands, and the Brandaris, the lighthouse that has stood as a symbol of the island for more than 400 years above the rooftops.
The island has six villages: West-Terschelling, Midsland, Hoorn, Formerum, Lies, and Oosterend. Many events take place on Terschelling: the annual Oerol Festival in June, the Brandaris Race (a sailing race from Harlingen), the "Berenloop" Marathon, the Terschelling Film Days, and a Lifeboat Day.
Formerum:
Formerum is a village on the Frisian Wadden Sea island of Terschelling, located between Landerum and Lies. The village has an open structure of scattered farms, some of which are among the oldest on Terschelling. Formerum has a supermarket, two restaurants, and a pub. Additionally, there is the cranberry factory, which produces the tastiest things with cranberries.
Characteristic for the view of the village is the coffee mill. The old mill of Formerum, dating from the sixteenth century, was demolished in 1888. The current mill is in good condition but has not been used for grinding grain since 1964. Nowadays, there is a nice café inside the mill. South of Formerum lies the Formerum Polder. The polder consists of meadows and pastures and is rich in breeding birds, including the Lapwing, Snipe, Redshank, Oystercatcher, Yellow Wagtail, and Skylark. In the Formerum Polder is also the 'Formerum Duck Decoy'. This cage is privately owned, but it is no longer actively used for trapping.
The Formerum Wheel on the dike is a relic from the time of a dike breach. North of Formerum is the 'Formerumerbos', a mixed forest in the dunes that was planted by the Forest Commission between 1920 and 1930.
The area to the north and east of the forest is the nature reserve 'Koegelwieck'.

In case of cancellation, you will be charged a fee of: - For cancellations more than three months before the start date, 15% of the agreed price; - For cancellations within three to two months before the start date, 50% of the agreed price; - For cancellations within two to one month before the start date, 75% of the agreed price; - For cancellations within one month before the start date, 90% of the agreed price; - For cancellations on the day of the start date, 100% of the agreed price.

After booking, we ask you to pay 50% of the total amount within 2 weeks, and the remaining balance must be paid 6 weeks before arrival. For bookings made within 6 weeks prior to arrival, we expect full payment within 3 days.
You will pay a deposit of €100.00. This will be refunded to your account within 2 business days after departure.
