Gîte L'Escale is located on the estate of Fermette La Planche, which includes the RUMMENS family's house, which is not rented out, and a formerly large barn with cowshed, now converted into 2 gîtes.Gîte L'Escale was recently rated 3 stars according to the new 2022 classification of furnished tourist accommodation by A TOUT FRANCE. The landlord set high standards for the furnishing of the gîte. Good beds, good sanitary facilities and a fully equipped kitchen are some of his requirements. Key words for the gîte are child-friendliness, luxury and comfort. The gîte "L'Escale" with a private entrance, a covered private terrace and an enclosed private garden is located at the front of the former barn . The holiday home Gîte L'Escale is suitable for up to 6 people (3 bedrooms) and possibly a baby.The gîte has a cosy furnished living room with sitting area equipped with a Smart TV with digital satellite receiver, a radio-CD installation and wireless Fiber internet (WIFI) (500Mbps!). Furthermore, we have as joint accommodation a heated swimming pool (8 x 4 m) that has a chlorine-free cleaning method which increases your swimming pleasure considerably. Around the pool there are 12 loungers, a pool shower, a toilet, a summer kitchen, a covered terrace and a jacuzzi, all surrounded by a 2.5 m high natural stone wall. Behind the pool is a petanque court, a swing for the youngest and a small fishing pond. The area is ideal for nature and peace lovers, as it has not yet been discovered by mass tourism. You can enjoy hiking, cycling and water sports such as fishing, canoeing, sailing and swimming.

Our gîte is a 15-minute drive from the autoroute A 71 between ORLEANS and Clermont Ferrand (exit no 10 MONTLUCON). The distance from Brussels is 652 km, from Utrecht 820 km. The gîte is located along a quiet country road one km from the village of HYDS. There is a bakery in the village. 11 km away is the town of Commentry with all shops such as: Aldi, Lidl, Carrefour Market and Intermarché. The region is a quiet, green, hilly, wooded and watery area with countless churches and castles. In the surrounding villages you will find the original French rural life. Our gîte is for rent for families who love peace, relaxation, silence and space; the ideal place to relax and enjoy.
Culinary and wine
You will find all the options France has to offer; you can enjoy the simple but very nutritious Auvergnat cuisine. The many restaurants serve complete 3-course meals from as little as 13 euros, often including wine!!!
The wine region of SAINT POURCAIN SUR SIOULE is half an hour's drive away.
What is there to do?
The Allier department is richly endowed with beautiful castles, many of which can be visited. Bourbon L'Archambault has a castle where a guide in traditional costume will show you around.
From the month of April until the end of September, you can indulge in the numerous flea markets held in the various villages.
In terms of nature, there are many possibilities. About an hour's drive away, you are in the volcanic area where the city of Clermont Ferrand is located, at the foot of the well-known Puy de Dôme. From this mountain, at 1472m, you have beautiful views over the green volcanic landscape.
You can also go parasailing here.
A beautiful theme park that is definitely worth a visit is Vulcania, not far from Clermont Ferrand, where fun and education alternate, also for children.
Just under an hour's drive away, you will find Le Pal. It is a combination of an amusement park and a zoo, similar to De Efteling amusement park. Visitors with children are generally very enthusiastic about it.
A 30-minute drive away you will find La Forêt de Tronçais (10,000 ha). This is the largest oak forest in Europe, where you will not go hungry for sports. In this Forêt de Tronçais you will find beautiful lakes and an abundance of hiking possibilities.
The forest is also ideal for mountain biking. There are guarded lakes with sandy beaches where you can swim or fish.
The Gorges de Sioule is 30 minutes away. There, sports (canoeing/swimming) and nature meet.
For golf lovers, there are excellent opportunities within a ½ hour drive.
You can fish in the many lakes and rivers that cross the beautiful landscape.
About 1 ½ hours' drive away, you will find yourself in the middle of a beautiful winter sports area. In the Sancy area, you will find the ski resorts of Super Besse and Le Mont-Dore. There you will find a very relaxed winter sports atmosphere, which cannot be compared to the large winter sports resorts we are familiar with; definitely worth a day trip!
For shopping, you can visit the cities of Moulins, Montluçon, Vichy, Nevers and Bourges. Moulins is a ½ hour drive away. On Friday mornings, it hosts the covered regional speciality market.

Cancellation terms:
- Free cancellation option until 56 days before the day of arrival.
- Reservations for groups or parties of persons under 25 years of age are not allowed. Cancellation up to 56 days (=8 weeks) before check-in date is 100% refundable minus 150€ cancellation fee. Cancellation up to 28 days (=4 weeks) before check-in date 50% refundable minus 150€ cancellation fee. Cancellation must be in writing.
