Location and surroundings of object
Vinarós is located on the east coast in sunny Spain, between Tarragona and Castellón, about 160 km north of Valencia, about 200 km south of Barcelona and south of the Ebro Delta. The town of Vinarós is the northernmost town on the Costa del Azahar, the Orange Blossom Coast.
The stone beach near Casa Ayelén is only about 50 m from the house. The surroundings are wild and natural and free of any mass tourism. Vinarós itself has a 1 km long sandy beach.
The town of Vinarós, the "northern gate" of the Costa del Azahar, is located in the province of Castellòn on the border to the province of Tarragona between the cities of Barcelona and Valencia. The fishing town with about 28,000 inhabitants offers everything you need for a relaxed life and a relaxing holiday:
In Vinarós you will find numerous bars and restaurants for every taste. Shopping in the individual shops in the town centre offers a creative change from a stay at the beach. A special feature of Vinaròs is the sandy beach, which can be reached directly via the seafront promenade: this is a wonderful way to combine the hustle and bustle of urban shopping with the relaxation that follows directly afterwards.
Vinarós is characterised by a very good infrastructure, so that an optimal supply is guaranteed locally for all areas.
There are, for example, many supermarkets and small grocery shops, hairdressers, shops of various branches, pharmacies, doctors, dentists and a modern hospital. Vinaròs and the region are convincing because of their many facets: the warm summers, the mild climate in winter, varied landscapes, untouched nature far from mass tourism, especially the lonely, remote rocky coves - and yet easily accessible tourist attractions, sights and culturally significant cities.
In the surroundings of Vinarós you will find a varied landscape with many excursion destinations and sights:
Sea and beach, historic towns, castles and monasteries, mountains, rivers, forests - a dream for relaxation and cultural enjoyment.
There are also numerous sporting opportunities: in addition to swimming, snorkelling and diving in the Mediterranean, you can also enjoy water sports such as pedal-boating, rowing, kite-surfing or sailing. Golfing, running and hiking, cycling, climbing or discovering and enjoying the landscape and nature on horseback - there is a suitable offer for almost every preference.
Adventure and fun can also be experienced in easily accessible facilities.
Here we briefly present some examples and possibilities:
Peñiscola
The castle in Peñiscola is absolutely worth a visit and can be reached after about 20 km and half an hour's drive. Romantic, narrow alleys, individual handicraft shops and classic souvenir shops offer the right souvenir for every taste.
The flair of the castle built on a rock, whose history dates back as far as 1000 BC, impresses not only tourists: some scenes of both the historical film "El Cid" and the series "Game of Thrones" were filmed in front of the medieval backdrop.
Peñiscola is also home to the Jardín del Papagayo: observe exotic bird species and learn exciting information about the breeding programmes there.
Morella
After about an hour's drive, you reach the medieval mountain village of Morella, which - rightly - calls itself "one of the most beautiful villages in Spain". The village, which is highly frequented in summer, enchants with its historical atmosphere, as if one could actually experience the history of the Middle Ages here.
The numerous small shops, the medieval market and the imposing church of Santa María Le Mayor invite you to stroll and linger even in high season.
Barcelona and Valencia
These two magnificent, charming cities are easily reached by car, but also by train: depending on the connection, you can be in Barcelona in 2 to 3 hours, or, in the opposite direction, in Valencia in 1.5 to 2 hours.
Ebro Delta
The Ebro Delta, less than an hour's drive away, is the second largest wetland in Spain, covering an area of almost 320 km². It is therefore also the most fertile area and is considered the "larder of Spain" due to the cultivation of fruit and vegetables, but also due to the cultivation of rice.
About one third of the area has been designated as a nature park, so that numerous animal and plant species can live here undisturbed. A visit to the Ebro Delta is not only worthwhile for bird lovers and ornithologists: many different water birds and migratory birds native to our region spend the winter here, raise their young or stop over on their journey even further south. In addition, the exceptional abundance of fish attracts many fishing enthusiasts.

Mrs. C. Dawson
We, Cornelia and Ian Dawson, have been passionate travel fans for many years and have travelled to many different countries. But no country has always fascinated us as much as fiery Spain. That's why we decided to build a holiday home in Spain. We chose Vinarós, which is located between Tarragona and Castellón. Vinarós has fortunately been spared from mass tourism and the landscape is wild and natural.
