Away from the tourist hustle and bustle, in a side alley, lies the oldest holiday home on the Moselle. Below Thurant Castle and the 1000-year-old St. Michael's Church, you can escape from everyday life in the 14th century half-timbered house. The half-timbered house has been in the family for about 400 years and was refurbished as a holiday home for you in 2019/2020. It has been ready for you to move into since spring 2020 and invites you to relax in Alken.
It has three bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, hallway and bathroom on two floors.
You won't find any modern frills such as underfloor heating or electric shutters here. Our motto is "Back to the roots", because during the renovation we went back to the roots of the house. So you will experience clay plaster on the walls and cosy country house furniture on the original baroque and uneven floor boards.
The house is designed for 2 to 6 people. 2 double rooms and a "children's room" with bunk beds and nappy-changing facilities offer space for overnight stays. The shared bathroom is equipped with shower and bathtub.
On the ground floor, our new, fully equipped country house kitchen invites you for self-catering during your stay. Oven with microwave function, coffee maker, kettle, toaster, egg boiler as well as fridge with freezer function are of course available. And if you don't feel like loading the existing dishwasher, just go to one of the numerous restaurants and wine taverns in the village.
The house is located in the oldest corner of the Alken "old town" - from a time when the neighbourhood together afforded a team of oxen. Consequently, there is no direct parking space at the house in the narrow development. This is about 200m away from the house. Unloading your luggage is of course possible in front of the front door. You will find numerous free parking spaces on the banks of the Moselle, 50m further on in Bachstraße or in the local car parks.

Dear guests,
our holiday home is situated in Alken on the Moselle below Thurant Castle and the old St. Michael's Church in a side street of the old centre of Alken. Restaurants, bakers, wine taverns, access to the hiking trails or jetty for boat trips are within a few minutes walking distance.

A large area for picnics is offered by our goat meadow on the outskirts of the village, which is easy to reach on foot or by car. You are welcome to pack your goodies and stroke our goats. But be careful: they are very alert and love picnics too ?
The half-timbered house offers a good climate. The old stone and wooden floors have been uncovered and the walls plastered with clay
Minibar with a small selection of local wines is also available (for a fee).
