Location and surroundings of object
Polz is the southernmost village in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Until 2004 Polz was an independent municipality and since then it has been a district of the town of Dömitz and thus belongs to the Dömitz-Malliß office in the district of Ludwigslust-Parchim. Polz lies on the Löcknitz River. Klein Schmölen, another district of Dömitz, lies to the west and Breetz to the southeast. Breetz is a district of Lenzen (Elbe) in the federal state of Brandenburg. From Klein Schmölen, an inland shifting sand dune extends northwards parallel to the Löcknitz towards Polz. Polz is framed on three sides by extensive pine forests; only to the south is the village bordered by the banks of the Löcknitz and the meadows behind it.
The holiday home is located on the outskirts of Polz, a larger, well-kept village in the Elbe River Landscape Biosphere Reserve, between Dömitz and Lenzen, in a quiet location, right next to the forest.
The local development is characterised by larger farmhouses and settlements and is very loosened up because of the large plots of land. However, smaller holiday homes, such as those in this residential area, can also be found in Polz. In Dömitz and also in Lenzen there are various shopping facilities, administration, doctors, sports clubs.
The region between the two small towns is characterised by the river landscape of the Elbe, extensive pine forests and agriculture.
Polz has good regional and national transport links via district and federal roads and the Elbe bridge at Dömitz.
On the Mühlenberg, an inland dune, there is an earthen holland windmill dating from 1887. It fell into disrepair after ceasing to operate and was converted into a restaurant in 1987, where the mill character was lost by installing a viewing platform instead of a cap with mill wings. After the fall of the Wall, the mill was closed. It was renovated in 2000 and is now used as a dwelling.

Excursion destinations
Inland dune near Klein Schmölen
There are not many natural elevations in the Elbe floodplain, which should please cyclists. All the more interesting is the sight of the inland dunes at Klein Schmölen near Dömitz, which can be seen from afar from the Elbe embankment road.
Europe's largest inland hiking dune rises impressively on the edge of the Mecklenburg Elbe Valley Nature Park. From its highest point, about 42 metres above sea level, visitors have a magnificent view over the Löcknitz lowlands in Mecklenburg, the Lenzerwische in Brandenburg and the Elbe foreland on the Lower Saxony side. The fascinating dune complex with a length of a good two kilometres was formed at the end of the last ice age, about 12 000 years ago.
Special climatic and very different soil conditions have allowed an extremely diverse flora to develop here, which in turn is a habitat for rare and protected species of birds and insects. The dune can be walked through on marked paths, and information boards along the way provide information about the special features of the geological formation. Guided tours are also offered regularly.
Dömitz
Dömitz Fortress, located directly on the right bank of the Elbe, impresses with its pentagonal basic shape, bastions, casemate vaults and 10-metre-high brick walls. At the largest fortress in Mecklenburg, visitors not only learn interesting facts about the town and its military history and about Fritz Reuter's time in prison.
Dömitz is surrounded by the rivers Elbe, Elde, Löcknitz and Rögnitz and offers the best conditions for motor sports or canoeing. A very attractive harbour complex with a marina and a maritime hotel, which enjoys great popularity with its adventure gastronomy, harbour bar and beach club, is the flagship of Dömitz.
Rüterberg
On the edge of the so-called "village republic of Rüterberg" lies a natural gem of a special kind. Clay was mined here by hand for more than 80 years. At first sporadically since the early 19th century, but industrially from 1889 onwards. When the border was secured, the area was closed down in 1968. What remained was an industrial wasteland.
Desert crater landscapes, deep pits and high heaps without trees and bushes were the result of decades of clay mining. While more and more people left the then restricted area, nature reclaimed the land. Soon, black locust, aspen and sand birch trees colonised the barren soil and over the decades a dense mixed deciduous forest developed in and around the clay pit, which became the basis of life for a diverse flora and fauna. The clay pit gradually filled with water, creating a small lake.
Today, an interesting circular trail leads around this lake, reflecting not only the traces of human activity but also the result of almost 50 years of natural development. In recent years, the "Elbetal Nature Conservation Association" has redesigned the path into a nature trail with information boards and stands explaining the history of this unique landscape and its geological features. Visitors also learn interesting facts about the mining history of the village and about the animals and plants that live here. The well-signposted circular trail is about 1.2 kilometres long. If you want to visit all eight stations and learn more, you should allow one and a half hours.
Lenzen (Elbe)
Lenzen (Elbe) is a town in the district of Prignitz. It is the seat of the Amt Lenzen-Elbtalaue, which also includes the municipalities of Cumlosen, Lanz and Lenzerwische. As one of the oldest towns in Prignitz, Lenzen offers sights and places with exciting history, such as the castle
Around Lenzen, a variety of natural treasures beckon, and small half-timbered towns and romantic Elbe villages invite visitors to stroll and linger. The Elbe River Landscape is an internationally important resting and migration area for numerous bird species. For thousands of cranes, wild geese and lapwings, the wide glacial valley is the migration route and an important resting and feeding area. In autumn and spring, up to whooper swans, 150 Bewick's swans, more than cranes and several tens of thousands of tundra and white-fronted geese can be observed in the Elbtalaue alone.
Gartow
The half-timbered town of Gartow invites visitors to take a stroll in its idyllic setting on Gartow Lake. The 75-metre-high Höhbeck, opposite Lenzen, is a geological feature and always worth a trip. With its lookout tower, the castle and town of Lenzen can be viewed across the Elbe far into the countryside.

New Year's Eve in a holiday home in Polz
The house is very quiet and idyllic and has a fenced garden. From there, you are right in the field and immediately in the forest and can take beautiful walks with dogs. We were able to observe squirrels and deer very closely.
The stove quickly spreads a cozy warmth. All kitchen utensils are available and the house is very clean.
The landlords are very friendly, there was even a bottle of sparkling wine in the fridge.
If you are looking for peace and solitude, you will be very well taken care of there with your four-legged friends.
We were there for the first time but certainly not for the last time.
Thank you very much for these beautiful days.

Great holiday home in a quiet location
We and our four-legged friends spent a week here in complete peace. Ideal for those seeking tranquility. The house is very well equipped, nothing was missing - everything was available, a fully equipped household. Even bicycles were not missing. As we travel a lot, we can judge that well. On two cooler evenings, the warmth of the fireplace was pleasant. There was also enough wood.
We went on bike rides through the adjacent forest and the surrounding area every day and were able to observe many forest animals, even in front of the property.
We can only recommend the holiday home and would love to come back.
A heartfelt thank you to the Behnke/Houvennaghel family.

Super Urlaub
Those looking for peace and relaxation are in the right place here. The accommodation is located right by the forest, we could observe deer almost every day. Simply pure nature. The house itself is very functional, the living kitchen is well equipped, there is plenty of dishes, pots, cutlery, and many small utensils. We didn't miss anything, felt almost at home. The terrace is also beautifully situated. All in all, just great. A heartfelt thank you to the hosts. We will not forget this vacation quickly and will definitely recommend it.

in the middle of nature
Those seeking relaxation away from noise and hectic pace will find it here. On a sunny autumn day on the terrace, nothing can be heard except the rustling of leaves in the wind. For shopping and excursions to larger cities, a car is recommended. Otherwise, you can also reach some beautiful places for hiking and "nature watching" by bike.
The house is well-equipped, clean, and tidy, the landlords are very friendly and helpful. Our dog and we felt very comfortable here.
