Description

In the small fishing village of Altwarp, situated on a peninsula on the German side of the Szczecin Lagoon, not far from Ueckermünde, lies the historic fishing house "Godewind" *****. It was built around 1800, a cosy half-timbered house. Since 2005, it has been consistently classified with 5 out of 5 stars by the German Tourism Association. A non-smoking house in a 650 sqm garden, only about 50 m from the beach.

The coast on the lagoon and the Baltic Sea has of course been characterised by fishing for centuries, so what could be more natural than choosing a historic fisherman's house as a romantic holiday home?

On the ground floor of the house, a 60 sqm holiday flat (2 to max. 4 persons) and a 45 sqm studio (max. 2 persons) with a separate full kitchen are located next to each other and yet are completely separate and self-contained. You get the 5-star level if both flats are booked for 4 people, in which case we provide free bed linen and towels.

Here you book the larger flat, approx. 60 sqm, suitable for 2 to max. 4 persons. It includes a living room with comfortable sofa bed, a bedroom with 2 single beds, a bathroom with tub, a complete kitchen with dishwasher, a dining area for up to 6 people and an exit to the private terrace for up to 6 people with wooden/fabric sunshade. This flat is designed in such a way that, if desired, all 6 tenants of both flats, i.e. also those of the smaller flats, can come together in the living room, kitchen and on the large terrace.

If you would like to book only the smaller flat, look under object no.: 31884

The house has electric heating in all rooms as well as historical but functioning, effective stoves. If you wish, you can burn wood/coal from our shed for a flat rate of 40 euros per week. Should you arrive in cold weather, we will have preheated for you for one to three days in any case. The start-up phase is not necessary for you. In winter we recommend our guests to use the stoves. We will give you an explanation when handing over the keys, so you can operate the stoves even without previous experience. In the transitional period, we recommend electric heating.

So far, no visitor's tax or parking fees. Also available at no extra cost:
WLAN in the entire house and in the entire garden.
2 in-house free parking spaces on the property, so exclusively one per flat.
Barbecue, DVD player, CD music system, CDs and DVD films, board games, books, information material on the village, surroundings, excursions, nature park, (cycling) hiking maps, ... a fishing rod, badminton, Hollywood swing, high-quality sun loungers, wooden chairs and benches, deck chairs that you can also take to the beach, clothes line, ..., on request also washing machine and dryer use on the property. Also available at no extra charge: children's high chair, handcart, children's bicycle, please enquire in advance so that you do not have to share the use of both flats when booking separately

Of course, we expect the use of the entire property to be done with care.

Godewind is a non-smoking house, but smokers can use the historic smokehouse in the garden in bad weather. You can also store your bicycles or fishing accessories that you have brought with you in a lockable place.

You can rent up to six very smooth-running, robust touring ladies' bikes from us for €20/bike and week. A toddler seat can be mounted on one of them, which you can use at no extra charge but on request. A toddler's bike with reversible training wheels and a trolley are also available free of charge. We do have 2 bicycle helmets, but if you value this for your children, please bring your own.
An in-house canoe is available on request (€25/day or €100/week)

There are seasonal masses in the garden: currants and gooseberries, which you can eat as much as you like.

Pet:
One well-kept dog per flat is welcome. You may bring a dog up to golden retriever size for an extra charge of 5 euros per night. It may play freely in the picket fenced, dachshund-proof garden. However, the garden is not a doggy play area, but primarily a playground for the children of the holiday guests. We like to see him and are not fussy if he digs a hole in the garden or breaks off a tulip. However, we do require that you do not leave him alone in the flat and garden unsupervised, that he does not disturb the other guests or villagers, does not soil upholstery or beds, does not leave paw prints on walls inside and outside and does not go for a walk in the garden. That he is kept on a leash in the village and that you clean up his poop

That he only bathes at the designated dog beach. There are two other natural bathing spots in the village and two natural beaches in the settlement 30-40 min walk away, as well as a larger dog beach section in Ueckermünde.

Location and surroundings of object

Maximum occupancy
When booking, please consider the maximum occupancy of 2-4 people and one dog for this flat
Please take this into account when booking

The landlord is in the house from time to time to prepare the free flats for the next guests, or to take care of the garden when you go on excursions, so that you are not disturbed by the lawn mower. We also take care of winter maintenance so that you don't get snowed in. The landlord lives in the free flat or in the attic, but this should not disturb you, as there is no footstep noise or similar. So we are always available for you if you have any problems. Even if no one is on site, we can always be reached by phone. If you book both flats and would like to have the property completely to yourself, this is no problem, just discuss it with us beforehand.

Larger playground equipment for children:
At the bathing beach 50 m away there is some playground equipment for children, climbing ship, swings, ... and volleyball, beach ball.
On the other side of the village, below the old windmill, there is also a football pitch.

House history:
Houses with thatched roofs, or reed roofs as they are called here, are characteristic of the style of the Haff coast. However, Godewind was never thatched, so we preserved and added the historic tiles during the major restoration in 2005. A sign from the municipality in front of the house indicates that it was also a captain's house in its long history. However, in its architectural style it is a fisherman's house. Since we started renting it out in 2005, it has been consistently classified with 5 stars. But it is also a special object: with very old components, stoves, furniture, ... The photos show it clearly. There are no insulated windows or thermal insulation systems, yet it is comfortably warm even at -29 degrees and with an easterly wind. The house has been restored with clay/limestone ceilings, walls, single glazing and doors preserved and added to in the historic proportions. After the restoration in 2005, it was not the end, but when the house is not rented out, so we cannot disturb any guests, we carry out renovations and repairs all year round.

The house is centrally located in the village and yet quiet, because due to its location as the only village on the tip of a headland, there is no through traffic and it is not cut up by a noisy main road like many other villages.

Coast:
Naturally, a fisherman's house is close to the water. You have a little water view from the garden gate. Godewind is only about 50 m from the bathing beach. It is a small village beach, not huge but never crowded. Two more bathing places in/at the village. Two other very beautiful beaches 20 minutes by bike, very easy to cycle through beautiful coastal scenery. All the beaches in the region are maintained in season by the municipalities and the water quality is monitored by the regional authorities. Everything is small and manageable; in contrast to the Baltic Sea coast, the region relies on gentle tourism. There are no traffic jams, lack of parking spaces, high parking fees or visitor's taxes like on the Baltic Sea coast.
A canoe is available in the garden for a fee (25 €/day, 100 € deposit). We don't have life jackets, but the Haff is very shallow at the village beach and at the reed beds and therefore perfectly suitable also for small children and in winter for skating. It is refreshing even in extremely hot summers, never as icy as the Baltic Sea, has no jellyfish because it is fresh water.
Fishing has characterised the village since 1150, and the fishermen are happy to take you out in their small wooden boats for a small fee on their early morning tour of the lagoon. A two-masted wooden fishing boat has been prepared for excursions and departs from its home port in Altwarp for trips across the lagoon. Other boat trips from Ueckermünde to Swinemünde, Szczecin, ..

Village and the surrounding area:
The locals in the village and region are very friendly.
Altwarp is situated on the tip of a peninsula. You experience pure nature, because the village lies directly in the (!) nature park "Stettiner Haff" and is therefore very widely surrounded by coastal landscape with water, dunes, marsh meadows and riparian forests. There is a separate administration for the huge nature park, which organises hiking, cycling and canoeing tours (beaver, ...) and offers them at reasonable prices. Information material, at our house, or about the nature park. Of course you can also go fishing, explore nature on your own with our canoe or bike, go sailing, surfing, kite surfing, ... In autumn, you can hear the deer roaring in the garden. In the evening, they hang out in the dunes and reeds right next to the village and eat the last apples from the tree. In winter you can skate on the lagoon. The winter service works very well, we don't know any cut-off villages on the lagoon, like on Rügen in 2010.

additional information:

The region is characterised by the coastal landscape and is also very sparsely populated. Therefore, it is not overcrowded even in the summer season like the Baltic Sea coast. You can walk or cycle for hours without meeting people, you are alone with nature, the eagles (3 species), herons, cranes, beavers, deer, ...

Shopping, restaurants:
It is about 30 m to the aunt Emma shop. You will find on arrival, starting conditions with sufficient tabs for the dishwasher, soap, coffee filter, salt, pepper, dish towels, detergent, toilet paper, ... The small shop in the village is open until o'clock on Saturdays. Despite its limited size, it is very well-stocked and not expensive. When you arrive, you drive past Ueckermünde, a very pretty coastal town, where you will find all the usual discounters, banks, cinema, railway station, ...
There are two restaurants in the village, which are also open in winter. All of them offer fresh, delicious fish dishes. In addition, at the harbour and in the dunes, there are two fish shops run by the Altwarp fishermen during the season, with a smokehouse, roastery and restaurant, very good value for money. There is also a hairdresser's and a nurse in the village.

Excursions:
It is an hour's drive to Usedom if you want to immerse yourself in the spa hustle and bustle. It is also an hour to Szczecin, also with good bus connections from Ueckermünde. Cars have always been safe on the German side and are now safe on the Polish side too.
Boat routes lead to Usedom and Poland, from Altwarp with a picturesque old wooden fishing boat or from Ueckermünde. There, a replica of a large historic Hanseatic cog is moored in the harbour. You can sail from a nearby harbour on a historic Zeesen boat or hire modern boats for your own tours.
Not far away, there is a beautifully made Slavic settlement and a medieval village, all of which are also very well suited to children. There is also the botanical garden in Christiansberg, the zoo in Ueckermünde, wellness in two larger hotels in neighbouring towns and in the seaside resort of Ueckermünde.
The summer medieval spectacle in Ueckermünde and the Giulio Perotti singing competition held there every two years, as well as various fishing and harbour festivals in the surrounding villages and small towns.
Opera in the ducal/royal castle in Szczecin and the Philharmonic in its own new building. Many other classical concerts and musical events throughout the region throughout the year.

Weather:
On a ten-year average, the Haff coast, like the Baltic coast with some small regions in southern Germany, has by far the most hours of sunshine per year. So it is not a "stroke of luck" that the sun shines, but statistically much more likely than in the rest of Germany. Normally the sun shines, but if the weather is "bad", this does not mean constant rain, but at worst "changeable", i.e. it rains once and it can be permanently sunny again. A full day of rain is very rare, even in March/April. As usual on the coast, it tends to be windy. The winters in Pomerania are cold and covered in deep snow. The winter service works very well.

Key handover:
Key handover by the owner on site on the day of arrival from Uhr. Departure and return of keys until o'clock on the day of departure.
We will show you the house and garden on arrival and can be contacted at any time during your holiday by telephone, sometimes also on site, for questions.

Arrival:
to reach Haus Godewind, follow the signs to Altwarp from Ueckermünde, then drive past the "Siedlung Altwarp" and after the yellow town sign "Altwarp" turn left into Seestraße after approx. 300 m at the first "correct" crossroads (bus stop). On the right side of the road, number 35. Someone from us will be waiting for you in the house after o'clock.
If you arrive by train, you can travel comfortably and quickly (2 hours from Berlin) to the terminal station Ueckermünde-Stadthafen.

Mosquitoes:
Because of the frequent wind, there are always significantly fewer mosquitoes on the coast than inland.
At the Stett. Haff are the vast majority of mosquitoes, not mosquitoes as you know them, but Haff mosquitoes. You can recognise them by their fluffy antennae.
These mosquitoes NEVER bite.
They do not eat anything, they only make love, when the battery is empty, they die on their own after 1-3 days

If you want more space :

If you would like to book both flats in this fisherman's house, please have a look additionally at the object number
31884 (45 sqm studio for 2 persons)

Two further holiday flats can be found in the Fischerhus Lütt Hauke in the same village under the object numbers
276541 (75 sqm for 2-4 persons)
276548 ( 69 sqm for 2 persons + infant).

Thank you for taking the time to visit us and
we would be very happy to welcome you as our holiday guests here at the coast !

Beautiful holiday home

Everything was perfect. Very friendly and caring landlords, very nice welcome and detailed tour and explanation of the holiday apartment and the property by Hagen. No wishes are left unfulfilled: the apartment is very well equipped, just a few steps to the beach (the water is quite shallow, however). Beach chairs can be rented for a few euros, and there are great ice cream sundaes at the beach. We definitely felt very comfortable and had a good rest. We thank Hagen and René for the nice and unobtrusive hospitality and can definitely recommend this accommodation 100%.

Quiet, relaxing vacation

If you are into cultural things and like to delve into the past, you will thoroughly enjoy it here. Very, very nice landlords and a very idyllic, picturesque, quiet village. Just like in the old days. Time seems to have stood still. You can decelerate very quickly in our fast-paced world. Highly recommended is the fisherman's tavern "Gregors."

Great for a family holiday!

First of all, we were only here for a weekend but it will definitely not stop there. Hagen and René are super hosts with a great eye for detail. Very impressive how they have restored the old captain's house without losing the original charm. They also took care of the children's well-being with various attentions. This is the right place to come if you want to recharge your batteries. The wonderful tranquillity, the view of the water and the surrounding area invite you to explore. The children especially loved the dunes. Thank you very much for your hospitality and we will certainly see you again soon!
