Location and surroundings of object
The formerly free mountain town of Altenau is located in the north-western part of the Harz Mountains and is one of the 5 Upper Harz towns. Adjacent to the Harz National Park, Altenau and its surroundings offer one of the most beautiful hiking areas in the region. One of the most beautiful hiking trails to the Brocken starts from the higher-lying district of Torfhaus. A varied programme of guided walks helps you to explore the Upper Harz and its diversity. The unique "Heißer Brocken" crystal sauna spa offers relaxation and recreation. Europe's largest herb park with a large outdoor area and spice gallery invites you to visit. In the centre of the village you will find small shops and numerous restaurants. The traditional "Altenauer" brewery is always worth a visit. In winter, the ski slope "Auf der Rose" and numerous cross-country ski trails offer unlimited winter fun.
Karl's holiday home is located in a quiet side street directly in the centre of Altenau. The Kristall Therme "Heißer Brocken" and the KräuterPark are only a few minutes' walk away.

We had a great stay!
We booked the accommodation for a week in June and celebrated a birthday there. The accommodation is clean and has a great location, you are right in the mountains, the bakery is very close by. The sauna is highly recommended. The providers or contacts were very nice and easily reachable.

Group leisure time
We had a completely lovely stay in Altenau. Once a year, we meet as a group, and the holiday home is perfectly suited for that. It offers plenty of space and a cozy atmosphere - ideal for shared game nights and social gatherings. The contact with the landlord was always friendly and uncomplicated. We felt very comfortable and would gladly come back. Clear recommendation!

Very good vacation apartment
The house offers a nice ambiance where one can feel comfortable for several days. Both kitchen and cooking utensils are sufficiently available. The communication was very professional and friendly. Only the missing Wi-Fi is a downside.
Otherwise, I can only recommend the house, whether for friends or family.

Nice holiday home
We were there for the weekend with 14 people and had a wonderful stay. The house is fully equipped, nothing is missing. There is a large parking lot and plenty of space on the terrace. Grill, garden furniture, everything is available. The house is located on a side street to the center, which was very pleasant, as we could reach everything quickly. The on-site employee is very nice and everything was very straightforward and worked great. We can highly recommend this accommodation!

A house to feel good in!
As a group, we spent a wonderful weekend in Karl's holiday home. The equipment is great, pre-orders like linen and sauna packages worked wonderfully, check-in and check-out by the local contact went smoothly. The great sauna and fireplace contributed to evening relaxation. The house is located in the middle of Altenau, supermarket, bakery, and the Altenauer brewery within walking distance. Plenty of starting points for great hikes! Sufficient parking spaces available at the house for car arrivals. Really recommendable!

Dear guests, i grew up in beautiful Southern Friesland, near the Neuchâtel primeval forest, but now, as a single mother with my three children, I enjoy living in the city. Growing up in the countryside was the best thing that could have happened to me. So I opened my house in Friesland, the Köpkenhuus, to my guests to give you this feeling of breathing freely too - if only for a holiday. It is nice to pass on things that you yourself have found fulfilling. The Steiger-Gustav-Haus and Karl's Ferienhaus in the Harz Mountains are the counterparts to the Köpkenhuus. It is a beautiful contrast to Friesland and it has its very own flair. It is located in the heart of the Upper Harz and everything is within easy reach from here. The different seasons can be experienced intensively here. The largest continuous forest in Lower Saxony is here and invites you to take a deep breath. Wish you a wonderful time in the houses of the Eilerschen Heimat!
