For decades, the signal station made sure that ships could safely navigate to the harbour and locks of IJmuiden, the entrance of Amsterdam’s harbour. After years of loyal service, the signal station became redundant.
A second life started! The signal station now offers you a unique possibility to stay the night; an experience you will think back on for a long time. All the stress from your busy life will fall off your shoulders once you enter the station and you will surround yourself in an oasis of peace, romance and serenity. Have a seat and enjoy the passing fishing boats and cargo ships and the bustle of the harbour entrance in combination with the pure beauty of nature, the dune, the beach, the marina and the sea with its infinite vista. Take in the sunset at night and later a magnificent display of heaving lights on the water.
The signal post is a 1-room hotel of 40 square metres and consists of the following spaces: living room with open kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, toilet. It also includes a 2-person hammock, TV, radio, air conditioning and a spacious balcony.

Naturally there’s the beach to have a nice walk, or the Kennemer Lake to enjoy the flora and fauna of this beautiful piece of nature, a paradise for bird watchers. The different beach pavilions on the beach have something to offer for everyone. From the old-fashioned hippie atmosphere, to modern lounge and high quality atmospheres. The Kennemerboulevard has various restaurants and little shops with a view over the sea marina Marina Seaport. One tip is a Chinese Specialties Restaurant Chi Ling on the Kennemerboulevard, which is crowed with a so-called Chinese Michelinstar. You can find Restaurant de IJmond on just 150 metres from the Seinpoststelling. Here, you can enjoy various fish and meat dishes that are truly Michelin-star worthy.

The National Park Zuid-Kennemerland was officially established in 1995, and is one of the 20 national parks in the Netherlands. Like the other national parks, Zuid-Kennemerland is part of the National Ecological Network: a network of connected natural areas in our country. The management of the national parks allows these wonderful pieces of nature to be preserved and to further develop. They are beautiful locations for information and education, as well as for nature-based recreation and research. The national parks are the showpieces of nature in the Netherlands!

SIGNAL STATIONS ALONG THE COAST.
historie2For centuries, signal posts can be found along the Dutch coast. Since the 16th century, lookout posts could be found on high dune tops or, as in Zeeland on top of church towers. They often served as a beacon for the fishermen along the coast. Sometimes it was used to warn residents along the coast about attacks from the sea. Between 1799 and 1813, these signal posts were equipped with coast telegraphs and semaphores, a signal system that could send visual messages in case of an attack from the sea. The Seinpoststelling in IJmuiden cooperated with the small and the large firehouse, that together form a line of light that marks the harbour, which is the most important mode of communication in shipping.
The signal post has become redundant some years ago because of the modern means of communication. The signal lights have been removed from the post for safety reasons. The post itself is saved for posterity.

A dream vacation!
We had a wonderful vacation in IJmuiden!
The accommodation was impeccably clean and beautifully decorated. Towels and bed linen were even provided for us, which was not mentioned in the description at all. From the balcony, you could watch the ships and enjoy the beautiful sunset in the evening. Only the sofa (on the balcony) was a bit uncomfortable. Supermarkets were quickly accessible by car.
All in all, a beautiful vacation; maybe we will come back again!

What a fantastic place and how cozy. Really enjoyed on Valentine's Day. Couldn't wish for a better valentine! Well taken care of and enjoyed lying in the hammock with your loved one! Highly recommended!
