Summer vacation

First of all, we felt very comfortable in the small water mill! In advance, I had a lot of questions to exclude unpleasant surprises as much as possible. Mr. Freese responded to me very quickly and in detail, both in writing and by phone. So we arrived without any concerns. Among other things, there were also some unfavorable reviews, and of course we had questions about that as well. We didn't experience any of the criticized things in 14 days. The mill is very quaint, of course you live with reduced comfort, but that didn't bother us at all, quite the opposite. The beds and mattresses were absolutely fine, not worn out or anything like that. The children's room was great, so we had enough space for our many things. As always, we packed too much ;-). The garden with seating was a dream. We really enjoyed the ambience and the view of the mountains. I had forgotten something in the mill and Mr. Freese promptly sent me my things back, thanks again! We would come back!

It was not a good decision! (Statement of a 5-year-old)

We, 2 adults, 2 children (5 and 2 years old), and a dog, stayed at the house for 1 week in August. The communication, booking, and COVID regulations with the landlord went smoothly.

First impression:
Secure like Fort Knox, camera at the entrance and in the garden. Many, many spiderwebs, both inside and outside. An overflowing trash can in front of the fireplace. Partially expired food in the kitchen. A dirty small guest towel in the toilet. Overall, we had a rather dingy feeling. The photos on the internet looked more promising. We also didn't sleep very well. Older double bed (for the man with a 5-year-old) with a dog blanket underneath! And a fold-out couch (woman with a 2-year-old). There was also a single bed (more suitable for smaller people). Well, we eventually made do with it, as after all, we didn't book a new modern 5-star hotel. So we first got a duster and removed the spider webs in the indoor space as best as we could. As for the bathroom, it was okay for an adult, but I couldn't shower the kids there. (There is only a fixed shower head with a large showerhead). So we went back to the hardware store and got a shower head so we could shower the kids. Our last night we spent in the camping bus. Because there were simply huge spiders (ground spiders) on the wall. (2) and I can't even count how many little [spiders]. Thank God we didn't see them before. Otherwise, our vacation would have been ruined for us. We both don't like spiders, and after this experience, we wouldn't have been able to close an eye there anymore. So our conclusion: Not suitable for animal hair allergy sufferers. Not suitable for young children. Anyone afraid of spiders should look for something else. We have been coming to Grundlsee for many years; it is highly recommended. But we will only look at the water mill as we pass by.

Warnung

We rented the watermill for 10 days. Arrival was supposed to be on the 20th of December 2020; unfortunately, we already paid the full rental price in January 2020! ! ! (1,140 €) in advance. The conditions of the Austrian government prevented our arrival, as we would have had to quarantine for the entire booking period. Cancellation was immediately made after the announcement of this regulation in early December. Unfortunately, Mr. Freese only refunded 350 euros in mid-March 2021, and that was only after several phone requests and eventually a legal reminder. Fair is different!

Cosy holiday home with style - wonderful family holiday

Cosy, quiet holiday home with a beautiful terrace and a great view of the mountains. The mill wheel on the house gives a quaint, unique style. The interior design combines good, modern taste with traditional. The beds are very comfortable! By car or bike you can get to all the shops, lakes, baths, restaurants, tennis courts and whatever else you need for entertainment and sports
All in all, my family really enjoyed their holiday in this holiday home! We can only recommend it!

Frustration Holiday

In need of renovation and lacking cleanliness. Booked for two weeks and left immediately.

recommend for: adventure and experience

Answer from I. Freese:

Great rustic cottage with the advantages of modernity

As usual, we arrived too late, so it was already dark, but this was no problem due to the super directions and also the house description of the landlord. It was nice and cosy, as the heating was switched on in advance. We found a wonderfully quaint cottage, which was lovingly furnished and decorated in detail by the owners, just like in the old days. Nevertheless, you have all the advantages of modernity (water, electricity, TV, Wi-Fi, etc.). The bathroom and toilet also reflect the individuality. We were neither disturbed by other guests nor did we have the impression that it was dirty. Of course, one or the other cobweb can be found when no one has been there for 2 weeks, but that is also the case at home when I come back after 2 weeks of holiday. Our children (13 and 7) were very happy and disappointed that we had to leave so soon. Sitting by the fireplace in the living room in the evening and playing cards like in the old days, going out and playing by the brook, you can be in the village in just a few minutes. Great tasty restaurants, and then a trip to the salt mine made everything perfect. But also for cooking at home, all the utensils are there, and we had too much with us, as always! We will definitely go again, but this time for longer to experience more of the excursion destinations! To sum up, if you want a relaxing, quiet holiday in a house with a lot of history and memorabilia, which radiates a lot of love, you are in the right place.

Romantic water mill

We spent a weekend in this rustic water mill and felt very comfortable there. Neither our dog nor we were woken up by any lodgers, although you have to reckon with that in the middle of nature. The mill has been restored with many details and there is everything you need in terms of equipment. If you want to relax far away from the hustle and bustle, this is the place for you. We will be very happy to come back.

A matter of perspective

We had booked the mill because the photos looked really inviting and idyllic. The mill was booked for 1 week, but after one night, we rebooked because the animal roommates (we would say are dormice) drove our 2 dogs completely crazy with their scurrying and squeaking in the house, and nobody could sleep. We were lucky to find a great hotel that also has family rooms where we had enough space with our dogs. About cleanliness, I can only say that those who are sensitive should look for another accommodation. The location is nice and secluded, but we can't say much more as we arrived around 5:00 PM and left the next day at 9:00 AM. Regarding the service, I can only say that Mr. Freese barely or did not respond to my emails, but Mrs. Fresse answered my calls on the arrival day and answered my questions. Conclusion: If you are not too concerned about cleanliness and not bothered by dormice, you can book the mill without hesitation. All others should invest their money in a reasonable accommodation for their most beautiful days of the year.

Answer from I. Freese:

Liebe Isi, es tut mir leid, dass Ihre Hunde verrückgespielt haben und Ihnen Ihren Urlaub versaut haben. Ich lebe seit 60 Jahren in unserem Ferienhaus, aber "gefiepse" und "Getrappel" habe ich noch nie vernommen. Auch geht ein Siebenschläfer nicht ins Haus und schon garnicht im Sommer. Ihr Urteil ist masslos überzogen und deckt sich irgend wie nicht mit den Top-Bewertungen....

We spent a long weekend in the mill because we thought the pictures were great and we just wanted to check it out. We, a couple, 52 and 50 years old, were there without pets or children. Actually, we fell in love with this location as soon as we arrived. The small private property and the freedom of a house are really great. On the property, which is actually like a small valley, you can barbecue, rest, or play by the stream. The house is very beautiful and lovingly furnished down to the smallest detail with its own or old collector's items and furniture, cleverly placed. What a job, respect! The kitchen and the sanitary facilities are certainly not as generous as at home, but everything is there and works perfectly. The real highlight is sitting in front of the tile stove in the evening, especially in the transitional period when it gets cold quickly in the evening, simply enjoying the rooms and letting your gaze wander over this or that collector's item.
Conclusion: We are extremely happy to have gotten to know this house and have already booked our annual vacation for 2019.
