Description
We have newly built the guest house in 2018/19. We have tried to combine the old Azorean architectural style with the requirements of a modern vacation home.
The 61 m² living space combines two 2-bed rooms, a living room with an open modern kitchen and a fireplace for the cold season. A large shower room and a utility room complete the house. For one bedroom an extra bed is possible (double bunk bed).
On the 40 m² large, partially covered and shaded terrace you can really relax. Next to the terrace you will find an outdoor shower to rinse off the salt after bathing or just to cool down.

We live on the beautiful island of São Jorge. This island is located in the Central Group and belongs to the "Triângulo".
The beautiful village of Urzelina is located on the preferred south coast of the island and is only a few kilometers from the airport and the ferry port in Velas.
Only 50 meters from the sea is the guest house "Azores House on the Atlantic Ocean"
From here you can hear the sound of the sea all day long, the whistling of the wind or the thunder of the breakers against the rock walls when there is a storm

We want you to feel comfortable with us and to remember your "vacation in paradise" for a long time.
We, as your landlords, live in the neighborhood of your vacation home. So we are at your disposal with words and deeds during the planning and during your stay with us.
No matter when you will reach our island, we will be on time at the airport or the ferry to pick you up. In the same way we will accompany you to your departure.
In your vacation home a small food basket will be waiting for you, so that you don't have to rush to the supermarket immediately after your arrival
If you do not rent your car at your arrival, we will drive you to the appropriate station.
If you want to hike and you don't know how to get to the starting point or destination, just ask us.

Dreamy days
The house is modern and well equipped. Everything you need for cooking, sleeping and feeling comfortable is available. The hosts live next door and provide support and advice. The welcome basket with food and wine for the first meal was great, so even if you arrive late, you are taken care of. The view of the sea with the best observation spots for dolphins, whales and birds is enjoyable. Especially at sunset, relaxation with a view of Pico is on the agenda here. Restaurants and mini-markets are within walking distance. A beach promenade and a swimming spot are right outside the door. With a car, all important points on the island are accessible. The boat trip with Dirk off the coast was also great - also possible for anglers. The accommodation is suitable for active vacationers as well as for resting. We would love to come back.

Azorenhaus - Feel-good house
Fantastic location, with a view of the Atlantic and Pico. We could even spot dolphins and pilot whales from the garden. Stylish and very well-equipped. Bright and friendly, just right for feeling comfortable. A bathing area is located right below the property. Dirk and Ulrike are very lovely and extremely helpful owners. The fishing trip was also a successful and unforgettable experience. Thank you very much for the wonderful time! Jürgen and Katja

"Welcome to paradise..."
This is not exaggerated. One would rather not leave. The unique location with the dream view of the sea is reason enough.
The house itself is top equipped and well thought out as we have rarely experienced.
We would love to come back.

A dream
Everything about this holiday home is just perfect: the location, the house, the facilities, the hosts
The house is located directly on the sea, on the most beautiful part of the coast of São Jorge. From the covered terrace (so you can sit outside even when it's raining) or the bench in the garden, you have such a magnificent view of the sea that you don't want to go to sleep at night! The house has everything you need and more, even an expresso machine with coffee pods. On arrival, a basket with all kinds of delicacies from the island and Ulrike and Dirk's warmth (Chicca's, Otto's and Emma's too, of course!) awaited us. And that was almost the best part - what these two do goes far beyond hospitality, we were very happy to have met you, the short insights into your lives impressed us very much and made us "envious" in a positive sense, how nice to meet such happy people - it's contagious :-)
So 5 stars are really too few here, we hope very much to be allowed to come again!

the holiday was super !!!!!!
The island is very beautiful. I had a lot of fun fishing despite the waves. Driving Buggi was great. THANK YOU. The private room was cool and when it rained there was good wifi and Netflix. What more could you want ?????

our best holiday
Everything was as described on the website, only better. A holiday far away from home, in the middle of the Atlantic, where the world is still in order, the landscape and the weather leave you speechless and the people are friendly to each other. Everything is like paradise. You have to be there at least once.
Thank you so much that we were able to rent this beautiful house from you and experience life on your island for 14 days.

Dream holiday
The small island of Sao Jorge was our destination. The off-season arrival and departure is a bit different than to the tourist strongholds. But that's not where we wanted to go! So the stopover and ferry crossing were very welcome and already part of the holiday. And then the incredibly beautiful, diverse, green, misty, sunny and enchanting island with its friendly and lovely people. We enjoyed every day for a short 2 weeks. Experienced the island "and of course hiked it. We bathed at the end of November, picked flowers and exotic fruits and experienced spectacular sunsets almost every evening at a different place. Add a Portuguese wine and the unique cheese of Sao Jorge, what more could you want! But there was more. A very beautiful house with facilities that leave nothing to be desired and all this in an indescribably beautiful place. And of course you, Ulrike and Dirk! You live hospitality in the very best sense. Thank you again! And Chica and Otto have become my friends, although I was not a great dog lover until then because of bad experiences. We will be back!

If you are looking for silence and relaxation - you will find it here!
SUPER, unfortunately AWESOME ;-)) ! Very nice hostel parents, who help with words and deeds to find your way around the island, to excursion destinations on the island etc. (the dogs Chica and Otto provide - if you want - for fun). Best equipment to ensure self-sufficiency with local products (fridge, microwave, oven, cooker, grill, household dishes). Actually, clothes in hand luggage are enough, the washing machine makes it possible. Various possibilities for active recreation, best the "Kaiserbad" after 2 minutes walk or during excursions "around the island" to great places/ island-typical fajas and bathing possibilities. But also just lie on the terrace and let your soul dangle - everything can, nothing must. Arrival and departure are ideal for discovering Lisbon or other Azores islands (Cafe Peter in Horta - a "must have").

What a spectacular view
Sitting on the terrace with a coffee and looking out over the Atlantic to Pico, not only this magnificent view will make our vacation on Sao Jõrge unforgettable. The location of the vacation home is perfect. Right by the water with a few steps to the nearest bathing spot. It is quiet and yet restaurants and a supermarket can be reached with a short walk.
The vacation home is modern and comfortably equipped. It has everything you need for a vacation stay: dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, oven, etc. A spacious, modern bathroom and a great outdoor shower.
Ulrike and Dirk are lovely and friendly hosts who provide valuable tips for activities.
This will not be our last vacation there.

Extraordinary / Dreamlike
Back home, the melancholy is still great, the memories still fresh and the photos far from sorted. You just have to love this island. This is the second time we have been to Sao Jorge. Of course also because of Ulrike and Dirk, but also because of Sao Jorge .... and because Edda wanted to see Chica ;)
Arriving on Sao Jorge is a complete break from the daily work routine, no stress and no hustle and bustle, and if anything, it's contagious. And all that without tourists. Only 8,500 people and at least twice as many cows, so you are more likely to meet cows than people on a hike
What the two have created there is magnificent. Every view of the Atlantic is to be enjoyed and every day this view is different. The excellent execution and implementation of the construction, the over-complete equipment and the location are special. You can hear the waves crashing at night
After visits in 2013; 2014; 2015,2016, 2017 and 2019, we must have had a special highlight this year. After many administrative preparations, we were able to get married on their terrace with a view of Pico and glorious sunshine. You made it something special.

Traumhafter Urlaub
Eine Woche ist vorbei und .... es war leider viel zu kurz. São Jorge ist eine Trauminsel inmitten des Atlantiks und wenn Dirk und Ulrike uns „ihre“ Insel mit ihren Augen zeigten, dann verstehen wir, dass so das Paradies aussieht. Dazu die vielen Informationen zu den superfreundlichen Menschen und ihrem Leben, was man so in keinem Reiseführer findet, macht die Insel unwahrscheinlich sympathisch.
Das Ferienhaus mit seiner gefühlvollen Topausstattung und die wunderschöne Lage direkt am Meer lässt wirklich keine Wünsche offen.
Und wenn man dann noch bei einer Bootstour mit Dirk von einer großen Delphinegruppe begleitet wird , dann muss man einfach von einem Traumurlaub sprechen.
Naja, und die beiden Border Collies Chica und Otto vermissen wir schon jetzt.
Danke, dass wir hier in eurem Paradies Urlaub machen durften.

Ce (trop court) séjour sur l’île de Sao Jorge chez Ulrike et Dirk, nous aura permis d’aller à la rencontre de ce couple d’hôtes très accueillant et disponible avec qui nous avons passé d’agréables moments.
Quant à la maison, tout y est: Un très joli cadre, une belle terrasse pour en profiter pleinement, un intérieur fonctionnel et joliment arrangé.
Nous avons passé d’excellents moments à randonnée alentours, faire du bateau, déguster les bons produits de la région…
En résumé, un endroit à ne pas manquer!

Fantastisches Ferienhaus - tolle und hilfsbereite Gastgeber
Wir hatten einen wundervollen, entspannten Urlaub und das verdanken wir:
Ulrike und Dirk mit ihrer großen Gastfreundschaft,
ihrem liebevoll eingerichteten Ferienhaus, in dem man sich 100 % wohl fühlt,
dem grandiosen Meerblick von der Terrasse des Hauses,
der nur 2 Minuten entfernten, sehr schönen Badestelle,
den sehr freundlichen Inselbewohnern,
der gesamten sehr ursprünglichen und naturbelassenen Insel São Jorge
und natürlich auch den beiden intelligenten Hunden unserer Gastgeber, die man einfach gern haben muss.
Das Ferienhaus ist modern eingerichtet und hat alles, was man braucht. Selber kochen oder auch draußen grillen gehen dank der guten Ausstattung super. Aber auch die nächsten Restaurants sind nicht sehr weit. Die zusätzliche Außendusche ist der Hit, nach einer ausgedehnten Wanderung die wahre Wohltat! Genauso, wie die guten Matratzen in den Betten.
Rund um die Unterkunft ist es sehr ruhig, man kann andächtig dem Meeresrauschen oder den vielen Vögeln lauschen. Die Straße zum Naturpool ist kaum befahren.
Die Gastgeber Ulrike und Dirk geben viele Tipps zur Erkundung der Insel, bieten zusätzlich Boots- und Angeltouren an und bringen ihre wanderfreudigen Gäste auch gerne zu den Starts von Streckenwanderungen.

Best vacation home so far!
We have already had some experience with vacation homes, but this was the most beautiful and best equipped vacation home we have had so far. Designed down to the smallest detail with a lot of love.
And then the location! A dream! Right by the sea in front of this beautiful natural pool. In the mornings we had it all to ourselves and from 8 pm we could enjoy this beautiful bathing bay all to ourselves in peace and quiet.
We enjoyed this peace and of course the fantastic view of the sea and Pico.
Unlike in a hotel complex, it is easy to get in touch with the friendly locals here. Just go to the port of Urzelina in the evening.
If we could, we would give it 10 stars. We will definitely come back.

Traumhaus am Meer
Wir möchten uns bei unseren Gastgebern ganz herzlich für die liebevolle Aufnahme und Betreuung im Gästehaus bedanken. Das Haus ist für einen Urlaub mit allen erdenklichen Möglichkeiten voll ausgerüstet. Wir haben nichts vermisst. Einige Beispiele: eine liebevoll ausgestattete Küche, jederzeit kaltes und warmes Wasser, für die Umwelt ganz wichtig: biologische Kläranlage und Sammlung von Abfällen, Möglichkeit, auch im Freien zu duschen. Für einen Urlaub sehr wichtig: eine große überdachte Terrasse mit Sitzmöglichkeiten und Liegestühlen. Von der Terrasse hat man einen grandiosen Blick auf den Atlantik und die Nachbarinsel Pico. Sehr angenehm empfanden wir die Ausstattung mit WLAN. So konnten wir jederzeit Nachrichten nach Hause verschicken und empfangen.
Hierhin kann man mit kleinem Gepäck reisen, da Waschmaschine und Trockner vorhanden sind. Weiterhin fanden wir es gut, dass für einen kleinen Einkauf auch ein Geschäft im Ort vorhanden ist und außerdem die Möglichkeit besteht mal essen zu gehen, wenn man nicht immer Lust auf das Kochen hat.
Wir haben die Möglichkeit gehabt, die vielfältige Natur und die Insel ausgiebig kennenzulernen. Beispiele: Vulkankegel auf 1000 m Höhe, kleine Fajas an der Küste, einen ehemaligen Walfangturm an der westlichen Spitze der Insel, einen wundervollen Park, der von den ehemaligen Emigrates gepflegt wird.
Sehr angenehm empfanden wir die immer netten, hilfsbereiten und freundlichen Menschen.
Hier kann man den Urlaub in vollen Zügen genießen und sich erholen. Wir werden sicher wiederkommen.

Entspannung mit Blick aufs Meer!
Ein traumhafter Blick von der Terrasse übers Meer nach Pico, die Badebucht 2 min. zu Fuß entfernt, wertige Ausstattung und ein Begrüßungskorb bei Ankunft der Gäste... Da ist von der ersten Minute Entspannung angesagt! Die Vermieter stehen mit Rat und Tat zur Seite, ob als Inselguide oder Skipper für Boots- oder Angelausflüge. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt und die Zeit genossen.
