In January 2022, I initially booked the vacation apartment for six months and then stayed for four and a half years.
The apartment is beautiful, tastefully decorated, and furnished with a lot of love. Especially the large room on the first floor is dreamy.
For me, it was a wonderful and also healing time. In the midst of nature, surrounded by peace and quiet, and at the same time by friendly people who welcomed me warmly. I have felt very comfortable here all these years and am very grateful for the beautiful time I was able to enjoy here.

What to see during your stay with family in the Upper Palatinate? How about Regensburg before you head out on a trip to a castle in Cham or a museum? If your accommodation is not far away, it is convenient to stay flexible and not plan too many activities from home. The historic old town attracts with its most famous landmark, the Stone Bridge. Among the most beautiful sights you should definitely visit are the Regensburg Cathedral and the medieval city center. Tip: Admire the Stone Bridge, as it is the oldest bridge in Germany that is still preserved. The famous stone bridge dates back to the 12th century. Feel not only comfortable in your holiday home in Cham but also on every excursion you make from your affordable apartment in the surroundings of Amberg-Sulzbach or Schwandorf. Historically particularly interesting is Walhalla, right in Regensburg. Nearly 200 commemorative plaques and busts remind of important events and personalities. The monument, reminiscent of a Pantheon, was opened by the Bavarian King Ludwig I. A stark contrast to your fully furnished vacation apartment in the center of Weiden or the cozy apartment next to the museum you wanted to visit anyway. Would you like to spend your vacation in a holiday home near the Upper Palatinate Forest? Do you prefer accommodation in Regensburg, the peaceful atmosphere in the Upper Palatinate Forest, or an apartment in the middle of the old town, with a beautiful church around the corner? If your pet is allowed, you make the right choice to experience an unforgettable vacation in Bavaria.
You return to your holiday home more contemplative after this excursion. The quiet surroundings do you good after visiting the Flossenbürg concentration camp memorial. Near Weiden, a concentration camp was set up in the Upper Palatinate Forest from 1938 to 1945. It is much more peaceful and pleasant in your apartment in Amberg-Sulzbach. Forget somber thoughts while hiking over the Hohen Bogen, an eight-kilometer-long ridge that runs through the Bavarian Forest. The popular winter sports area is ideal for sledding and skiing. In this magnificent landscape, you will have pure joy discovering nature in both summer and winter. In the Upper Palatinate, you are sure to discover your romantic side, as the Upper Palatinate Forest has the most castles in Germany. The Schellenberg castle ruins are just one example of the remains of medieval castle fortifications on Bavarian soil.
During your forays through the Upper Palatinate, cooling off is necessary. How about a trip to Steinberger Lake? The lake, which belongs to the Upper Palatinate Lake District, is 184 hectares large and ideal for swimming. Not only in the district of Regensburg are exciting excursion destinations waiting for you. Follow the traces of past times. The archaeological open-air museum, the Geschichtspark Bärnau-Tachov, recreates everyday life in the Bavaria Slavica from the early eighth to the 14th century. No comparison to your cozy apartment near the forest or in an idyllic location by the lake. Venture on a journey through time and return enchanted to your holiday home, where much more is allowed than in medieval times. Exciting experiences await at the Erlebniswelt Flederwisch in Furth am Wald. The romantic garden in the middle of the Bavarian Forest is a realm worth discovering for both young and old. The Lambach Fairy Tale and Ghost Castle in the district of Cham brings fairy tales to life. Drive there, experience, have fun.
In Weiden as in the district of Regensburg, good bourgeois cuisine from the Upper Palatinate is appreciated. Try typical delicacies and regional specialties like dumplings or Upper Palatinate carp. In the kitchen of your apartment in Regensburg, it smells enticingly of white sausages, which you serve with sweet mustard and pretzels in style. After an excursion to the castle ruins or to Ambach, a hearty snack platter is particularly tasty. Find out during your vacation what lies behind Dotsch and Schäuferl in culinary delights from Bavaria. The charming wine-growing areas in Bavaria produce delicious wines. Surely you have noticed the extensive vineyards between Wörth on the Danube and Regensburg. Try the Regensburg country wine, usually a dry table wine, which harmonizes with the Upper Palatinate cuisine, with your next dinner.
Culture and art are definitely not lacking in the Upper Palatinate. Between the castle and the lake, Weltenburg Abbey awaits your visit. The Benedictine abbey is located in Kelheim on the Danube and offers sights worth seeing. Another excursion destination that is not available every day is the Lothar Fischer Museum in Neumarkt. Numerous special exhibitions make a visit to this innovative museum in the region worthwhile. Embedded in a fantastic nature, the Upper Palatinate shows its various sides. Enjoy the appealing mix of old traditions, still maintained in the Upper Palatinate region today, and sustainable cultural ambitions. Combine an excursion before the gates of the Bavarian Forest National Park with a visit to Bayerisch Eisenstein.
