Beautiful stay at the Hotel Rosa in Vienna. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location was perfect, close to the city center and public transportation. The room was clean and comfortable. We enjoyed our time in Vienna and will definitely come back to this hotel in the future. Highly recommended!

Where Poet Gerhart Hauptmann Found Inspiration

Artist colony, seaside resort, farming village: In Kloster, the cultural heart of Hiddensee beats. The writer Gerhart Hauptmann left literary traces here and is buried in the island cemetery in Kloster. His summer residence, the Seedorn House, remains in its original condition and vividly conveys how Gerhart Hauptmann and his family lived on the island. Not only the famous writer was repeatedly drawn to the island, but numerous visual artists also found their muse here. From the beginning of the 20th century, Hiddensee became an artists' colony. In 1919, the Hiddensoer Künstlerinnenbund, an association of notable female painters from all over Germany, was founded on the island. The initiator was the artist Henni Lehmann, with the Blue Barn in Vitte as the center. The distinctive blue barn is an important attraction. To this day, Hiddensee remains a place of art. All roads to Hiddensee lead through Rügen. At least almost all of them! Since the island itself is car-free, you will need to cover the last part by ferry or water taxi. If traveling by train, it is recommended to arrive via Stralsund. By plane, you can book a flight to Rostock-Laage from Stuttgart and Munich.
