Hyggeliges holiday home with dreamlike view

We have just returned from our two-week stay in Denmark and can recommend this house without reservation. The landlords were very friendly from the beginning and answered all our questions individually.
The house itself is very clean (that was especially important to us), tastefully furnished and in top condition. What you see in the photos is what you get in reality. The equipment of the house is very good. In other holiday homes there is a dishwasher, but not enough crockery to make good use of it. This is different in this house. There is enough (new) crockery so that you can cook and eat practically like at home. The house is also well equipped in terms of media. For rainy days there is a small library (Danish & German), W-LAN, TV, DVD player and a small selection of films, especially for children. When the weather is good, it is fun to use the huge grounds around the house for sporting activities such as frisbee, badminton, etc. The beach, which is close by, is just a stone's throw away. The beach, which is close to the house, was less suitable for swimming during our stay. However, a paddle boat could be used here. The nearby sandy beach of Brydegard is very suitable for bathing (10 min by car).
Of course, Helnaes Bay is a good starting point for excursions to the surrounding area (Faaborg, Langeland, Svendborg, Odense...).
Many thanks to the Göbel family for entrusting us with this great house.

The location is great. The sea is almost within reach. What did not bother us is the road that runs directly along the living room. The region is super. Odense, for example, is only about 30 km away. The furnishings of the house are somewhat outdated. While this is quite normal, it did stand out to us. The bathroom has simply and clearly room for improvement. The upper floor with the balcony is a great idea, only the steep stairs take some getting used to. Recommendations: Odens, Bogense, and Middlfart are definitely worth a visit.

Which sights are there in Funen?

History and Stories – Visit the Storyteller

Your affordable holiday home or apartment, for example in North Funen, on the island of Funen is located in a landscape that has shaped history. In Odense, the largest city of Funen (and the third largest in Denmark), is the birthplace of the world-famous storyteller Hans Christian Andersen. The house now hosts a museum that brings you closer to the life and work of the writer. For children, the museum offers the opportunity to dress up and immerse themselves in Andersen's stories. In Odense, there is also the open-air museum Fynske Landsby with houses from the 18th and 19th centuries. Insights into the history of Funen are provided by the magnificent castles and palaces. The medieval castle Nyborg is located in the historic town of Nyborg on the Great Belt, southeast of Odense. The castle served Erik VII for many years as a residence. Inside, there is a museum. Even more magnificent is Egeskov Castle, a late Gothic castle from the 16th century in the middle of a lake. Accordingly, it is also a water castle. The rooms inside are furnished in the Renaissance style. The name Egeskov means oak forest, as the house stands on a foundation of oak logs. A museum offers insights into the magnificent interior. The museum's most famous attraction is the dollhouse Titania's Palace, made up of over 3,000 parts.

What do you need to experience in Funen?

Experience the Nature of Funen: Beaches, Islands, and Sea

The greatest highlight is the beautiful nature of Funen and the neighboring islands. Enjoy a hike on Fyns Hoved, the northernmost point of the island, which separates the Kattegat from the Great Belt. While hiking, you will encounter impressive Neolithic megalithic structures throughout Funen, presumably erected for cultic purposes: standing single stones and stone circles. Or book a private holiday home by the South Funen Archipelago. The whole family will enjoy their time here. 96 large and small islands invite you to island-hop. Here, water sports enthusiasts of all kinds, anglers, and beach lovers gather. The region attracts with idyllic villages, historic towns, imposing castles, and manor houses. Visit the dunes at Ristinge and watch wild horses roam free at Bagenkop.

What can you experience in Funen with children?

With Family and Dog to the Island

Many private landlords on Funen have pets themselves. So it's no surprise that dogs are warmly welcomed in the apartments and holiday homes. A holiday with a dog is therefore no problem. Your four-legged family member will enjoy the beautiful sandy beaches, forests, and hiking opportunities. The accommodations are family-friendly and offer ample space, fantastic views of Funen's nature, and convenient connections to the island's most beautiful beaches. The child-friendly beaches gently slope into the Baltic Sea. A change from the bathing beach and the coast is offered by the Odense Zoo. Over 2,000 animals live there: giraffes, antelopes, tapirs, manatees, penguins, and many more. The Oceanium introduces you to the wildlife of South America, from the Amazon rainforest to the cold regions of Antarctica. The zoo is one of the most popular attractions in Denmark. A trip to Vejlby, Varberg, or Svendborg is also well worth it! Otherwise, you can take bike rides along the cliffs, explore the beautiful bays, hills, and headlands, and enjoy the sea views and explore the coastline.

Where can I eat out in Funen?

The Garden of Denmark Invites You to Dine

The mild climate of Funen ensures lush nature and rich gardens. The Baltic Sea provides the best freshly caught fish. Modern Danish cuisine places great emphasis on regional and seasonal products. A classic from Denmark is fried plaice. Root vegetables such as beetroot or carrots often accompany it. Don't miss the plaice filled with crab and asparagus, especially in the spring. Also, try the grilled eel, guaranteed to come from local waters. Denmark is especially known for its simple dishes like meatballs or red berry pudding. And with simple dishes, the quality of the ingredients is what counts. And that's right on Funen. If you like to cook in your own accommodation, you will find high-quality products at the markets in the region. The bakeries spoil you with puff pastry creations, poppy seed rolls, rye bread, and lots of sweets. The Danes love it sweet. If you prefer to eat out on vacation, you will definitely find a restaurant near the affordable apartment or holiday home with a view of the water or the fjord along the coast. By the way, "middag" means dinner and "frokost" means lunch. It is usually a small meal in between, which might consist of smørrebrød or salads. Smørrebrød are slices of white or rye bread topped with breaded fish fillet, shrimp, or pâté.

What is a must-see in Funen?

Fyn's Diverse Museum Landscape

The destination of Funen not only inspired the great writer and fairy tale poet Hans Christian Andersen, but it is also a source of inspiration for painters, sculptors, and artisans. Your holiday apartment or house, which might even be a half-timbered house, is located in a vibrant art landscape. On Fyn, there are four outstanding art museums. The Brands Museum for Art and Visual Culture in Odense dedicates its exhibitions to new and classic art, photography, film, and other visual media. Learn about former transportation and locomotion methods at the Railway Museum. Contemporary ceramics can be discovered at CLAY. The house displays both 200-year-old ceramics from the Royal Ceramic Collection Copenhagen and contemporary objects. The Johannes Larsen Museum is located in the former house of the Funen painters Johannes and Alhed Larsen. The Faaborg Museum is committed to the Faaborg artist colony on Funen in the late 19th century. The colorful house was designed by the architect Carl Petersen. As a traveler, go on a discovery tour and explore Danish culture beyond the mainland.

How do I come to Fyn?

Travel to the Land of a Thousand Islands

The journey to your holiday apartment or private holiday home in Funen (Danish: Fyn) with sea views is convenient and stress-free by train. Night trains run regularly from several German cities to Odense, the capital of Funen. From Jutland, intercity trains run hourly to the island of Funen. Most guests from Germany travel to Funen by car. From southern Germany, your route takes you via Hamburg and Flensburg to the Danish border. By the way, there is a regular car train between Munich and Hamburg. From Flensburg, the motorway East Jutland begins. It leads over the bridge at Fredericia across the Little Belt to Funen and to the Hindsholm Peninsula. The Storebæltsbroen (English: Great Belt Bridge) connects the Danish islands Zealand and Funen across the Great Belt. Zealand is the largest island in the country. Here are the capital Copenhagen and the city of Roskilde. Small towns and villages on the north, south, and west coasts are popular holiday areas with their sandy beaches and fjords. In the south, the huge white fossil-rich coastal cliffs of Møn’s Klint and Stevns Klint offer views of the Baltic Sea. In Denmark, many of the islands are connected by a bridge system. For example, from Fyn you can easily reach the islands of Langeland and Tåsinge. Langeland is a 52 km long and up to 11 km wide Baltic Sea island in the Syddanmark region of Denmark. It is accessible via a bridge system that includes the islands of Siø and Tåsinge. Note that in Denmark, driving with dipped headlights during the day is mandatory. For those coming from further away, arrival by plane is also possible. Most flights from Germany to Denmark go to Copenhagen. From there, onward travel by train or rental car is easy. The small airport in Odense is currently only served by charter flights. Your unforgettable journey in the north full of relaxation can begin!
