Colico's sights - what must be seen?
Colico is located about 75 kilometers from Milan, on the northeastern shore of Lake Como. The piazza on the lake and the northern and southern areas along the beach are spacious. The beautiful piazza, with its plants, water features, and benches, invites you to relax and unwind. Interesting sights include the ancient Abbazia di Piona monastery from the 7th century, which has been well preserved to this day. The Montecchio Castle is the only one in the region that was not damaged during World War I. The Forte di Fuentes fortress is also worth a visit. Numerous sights can be reached from your villa with a garden and beautiful bathroom or from your hillside holiday home with good facilities in a short time. The reviews allow you to see how previous guests enjoyed their accommodation and its location. The Piona Abbey, or Abazzia di Piona, was a Benedictine monastery from 1138 to 1798 and has been a Cistercian monastery in Colico, Province of Lecco, Diocese of Como in Italy since 1938. Definitely worth a visit for culture enthusiasts during your holiday in the resort and its surroundings.

Merlot, polenta, chestnuts, and fish
Due to its proximity to the water, Colico's cuisine is characterized by fish dishes. However, hearty meat dishes from Lombardy and polenta from the mountain valleys show that the region is influenced by the Lombard, Piedmontese, and Ticinese cuisines. Polenta is the most typical dish for the entire region of Northern Italy. During your stay in a holiday apartment or house, you simply cannot miss it. Of course, in the pasta country of Italy, noodles are an absolute hit. Homemade agnolotto, raviolo, or tortellini can be found on nearly every restaurant menu. Another Lake Como specialty is risotto, with its diverse variations. The region of Lombardy and Piedmont provide excellent rice. From September onwards Italians are crazy about porcini mushrooms with rice, which is also a real treat when combined with porcini mushrooms. Desserts are essential, too: classics include tiramisu, panna cotta (a kind of cream pudding), crostata (shortcrust pie with jam), gelato (ice cream), and amaretti (small almond cookies, often served with espresso). Restaurants often offer inexpensive two-course meals or a simple daily dish at lunchtime. Pizza is generally eaten in the evening. All holiday apartments and houses in Colico have a kitchen where you can find everything you need for self-catering. Afterwards, you can take a relaxing, leisurely stroll through the idyllic landscape or villages.
