The Old Castle on Maximilianstraße dates back to the 15th century, while the New Castle is from the 18th century. These buildings served as the residence for the Margraves of Brandenburg-Bayreuth. The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 AM to 5 PM. Admission is 3.50€ and free for children under 6 years. You can see more animals (this time a bit more contemporary) at the Röhrensee Zoo. Here, kangaroos, flamingos, and tragopans are kept in species-appropriate conditions. There is also a water playground and boat rentals in the summer. The park is open daily and admission is free.

Franconia is a renowned gourmet region. No matter where you spend your holiday in the area, you will find Rostbratwurst in numerous variations everywhere. The Nuremberger is the classic among sausages, from Coburg comes a specialty grilled over pine cones, and from Kulmbach a variant with a particularly high amount of veal. Speaking of meat: The main ingredient in Franconia is meat – mostly pork as sausage, but also beef, lamb, and game. Vegetables are included but usually only as a side dish. Nowhere else is the brewery density as high as here. Here you will find changing exhibitions on exciting topics. The collections mainly focus on 20th-century art.
