The Old Town of Bamberg has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993. The Old Town Hall is one of the most significant buildings in the city center. It is located on an artificial island in the middle of the Regnitz River. The district Little Venice includes many buildings, some of which are built on wooden piles. From the Upper and Lower Bridges, you have a wonderful view of the Fishermen's Houses from the 17th century. The largest folk festival in Bamberg, the Sandkerwa, is also not to be missed. In Bamberg Cathedral, artworks from various epochs are still on display today, including the famous Bamberg Horseman. On the outskirts of Bamberg is the forest adventure trail "Experience Bruderwald". At 20 stations, there is information about the forest and forestry there.
The Altenburg is the landmark of Bamberg and a popular excursion destination. The writer E.T.A. Hoffmann had an apartment in the castle. Today, regular church services are held there. The New Residence stands on Cathedral Square. With more than 40 living and state rooms, a visit is worthwhile. The baroque Emperor's Hall is particularly impressive. Admission costs 6€ regular, 5€ reduced. The New Residence is open at the following times (as of August 2023): • April – October 3: daily 9 AM – 6 PM • October 4 – March: daily 10 AM – 4 PM Since 1968, the State Gallery has been located in the New Residence. Here you can see masterpieces of German, Flemish, and Dutch painting. In the Rose Garden of the Residence, there are still statues of Roman deities. Admission here is free. The nearby Old Court is one of the most important Renaissance buildings in Germany. Right next to the cathedral stands the Historical Museum Bamberg - with impressive exhibits on the history of Bamberg. Admission for adults 19 and over costs 8€. In the courtyard, the Calderón Festival takes place in the summer. The festival is hosted by the E.T.A. Hoffmann Theater.
