"Take a break" ... in our beautiful water tower, the only one in central Germany where you can stay as guests. Treat yourself to a few days off from everyday life and enjoy the beautiful countryside and the many nearby sights and towns
The minimum rental period for this property is
April to October from 4 nights,
November to March from 5 nights.
In case of corona measures/official requirements, free cancellations are possible until the day of arrival. No compulsory testing in the holiday property.
Our holiday home offers enough space for up to 5 people and 1 dog or up to 4 people and 2 dogs

The tower is not barrier-free because of the many stairs and not suitable for children under 5 years
Dogs allowed, per dog by arrangement: 29,00 Euro per stay and pet. We are a non-smoking house, smoking allowed in the garden.
If you arrive with your electric car or use your own e-bike, you can charge it directly at our play barn via 230V plug or at the in-house wallbox (charging plug type 2) with in-house solar power or green electricity from Greenpeace-Energy
The Großheringen water tower was built in 1899 as a water tower for the railway and was thoroughly renovated in 1995-1998 and extensively modernised and renovated in 2015-2016. An exceptional holiday home not only for railway fans.
You have around 95m² of living space spread over 5 floors. You can reach the roof via 67 steps. In the cold season, underfloor heating provides warmth. No extra costs for cleaning, W-Lan, bed linen and towels.
The tower has a fully equipped modern fitted kitchen on the ground floor with electric cooker, oven/grill, dishwasher, fridge with freezer compartment, as well as plenty of crockery and cooking utensils. A washing machine is also at your disposal. The dining table comfortably seats 5 adults.
In the living room you can sit comfortably on the round couch, listen to music, watch TV and videos or surf the internet via the free wi-fi. A small selection of DVDs and CDs is available.
The 2nd floor houses the reading and games corner in the anteroom. Here you can choose from an extensive collection of books, magazines and games while sitting in a wing chair. Through a water-glass door you enter the bathroom area, equipped with WC, washbasin, shower with seating area, hairdryer and towels. The ceiling of the room here is formed by the floor of the old historic water tank made of cast steel.
On the way to the 3rd floor you can take a look inside the water tank floor. Around 40m³ of cooling water was stored here for the steam locomotives of the Deutsche Reichsbahn until the 1960s. Once you have reached the top, you will find yourself in the bedroom, the former water tank (dismantled). In addition to a comfortable double bed and a sofa bed, you will find enough storage space for your clothes and travel utensils.
Via a solid wood space-saving staircase you reach the sleeping loft. Here are 3 more cosy bunks, which are very popular with children as well as adults. (slatted frames with real mattresses set into the floor) From here you have a beautiful view of the green surroundings and the adjacent railway area through the skylights.
The 2 bedrooms are not rooms that can be closed off with doors. Each floor is a whole room. Only the bathroom can be closed with a door.
The outside area offers space for 2 cars, a cosy outdoor seating area with garden furniture, lawns, basketball court and well-kept flower garden with forest path. 2 garden loungers, hammock and hanging chairs invite you to relax. Table tennis, darts and foosball can be played in the barn, not only in rainy weather. 4 bicycles can be used for excursions for a small fee. Fire bowl with firewood and open-air barbecue with charcoal available. A picnic basket is available for excursions.

Location and surroundings of object
The water tower stands on the outskirts of the municipality of Großheringen. near where the Ilm flows into the Saale and the Ilm Cycle Path, 3km from Bad Sulza or Bad Kösen and 14km from Naumburg and Apolda, in the Weimarer Land, federal state of Thuringia. This region is also called the Tuscany of the East because of its landscape, climate and viticulture. From here you can reach cities worth seeing such as Weimar, Erfurt, Halle, Jena, Sömmerda and Leipzig in a short time.
Below the property is the railway area with a manageable train service. it is a 300-metre walk to the railway station, from where regional trains run at regular intervals to Naumburg, Halle, Leipzig, Apolda, Weimar, Erfurt, Jena and Sömmerda
Above, there is a village road with moderate traffic and a small residential area with adjoining woodland and vineyards, ideal for hiking and walking your dog. The Ilm and Saale rivers flow through the village. The Saale is ideal for canoeing through the famous Saale valley with its many castles and vineyards. In the village you will find a dog sports field, riding arena, tennis courts, football field, playground and a landing stage for paddle boats with a rest area. In Bad Sulza, 3 km away, you will find a beautiful open-air swimming pool, the Toskana-Therme with sauna area, recommendable gastronomy and extensive shopping facilities, as well as a hairdresser, post office, doctors and pharmacy
Take a canoe trip on the Saale, relax in the Toskanatherme and sauna facilities in Bad Sulza, cycle through the Weimarer Land on the Ilmradweg. Take a trip by car or train
- to Naumburg to the cathedral, to the cinema or a stroll through the historic old town,
- apolda to the open-air swimming pool, the bell museum or the brewery,
- to Jena, the city of science with Carl Zeiss & Ernst Abbe, the botanical garden and the cultural arena,
- weimar, the city of classics, with Goethe & Schiller, the Bauhaus Museum, the Spiegelzelt and the Anna Amalia Library,
- to medieval Erfurt with its cathedral and Petersberg Citadel, the Federal Horticultural Show/EGA, the Erfurt Trade Fair and the zoo,
- Hiking on the Way of St. James, Via Regia from Erfurt to Naumburg, from cathedral to cathedral
Hike to the castles in the Saale valley, to the vineyards or visit Nebra Ark with the famous sky disc.
There is so much on offer here within a radius of 50 km that the days will fly by and you will certainly want to come back a second time.

Environmentally friendly holiday home: Arrival is also possible by bike or train. The train station Großheringen, as well as the Ilmradweg and the Saale-Radweg are only 300m away. The water tower is powered by green electricity from Greenpeace Energie. From July 2020, a 10 kW photovoltaic system will supply the tower and your electric car with solar power. We practice waste separation and ask our holidaymakers to avoid waste. We use only recycled paper for mail, advertising and in the household. The tower is insulated with hemp and cellulose, as much wood as possible is used and the floors are PVC-free.

Extraordinary holiday home
For us, it was the most extraordinary holiday home we have ever visited. But that is exactly the charm. From our perspective, it leaves no wishes unfulfilled for a wonderful holiday stay. We particularly noticed the attention to detail in the decoration and furnishings of the water tower. We can recommend this accommodation with a clear conscience.

Blue Tower
The five-member family was able to spread out well across the five levels of the skillfully built tower, and the little dog was also warmly welcomed. Of course, they enjoyed their vacation on all five levels. The father, the carpenter, rated the expansion as top-notch and was able to really relax with his wife in the bedroom, while the children had their own world at the very top. The play barn was part of it, and the lovingly designed garden with its armada of watering cans delighted everyone. The children did not want to leave, but the adults were called by work.

The world's most perfect accommodation!
Thank you very much for the wonderful days in the water tower; it was a unique experience. Not only the water tower itself and the beautiful garden – we had expected that.
The play barn was a great addition that we also enjoyed with games like foosball, table tennis, darts, chess, among others. I was especially fascinated by the many small design highlights, such as the lamps, ventilation design, and especially the curtain hangers for the bathroom window (with the integrated faucet), as well as the blue submarine lights in the hallway that lit up when there was light in the bathroom. What a grand "Occupied" signal.
In my life, I have stayed in hundreds of extraordinary hotels, Airbnbs, vacation rentals, and other accommodations in over 80 countries around the world. Among them were also more luxurious, adventurous, and extraordinary places. But:
The water tower was, of all these accommodations so far, the number 1 when it comes to the thoughtfulness and perfection of preparation down to the smallest detail, to enable guests to have an optimal stay. Crazy!
I celebrated every new little thing as soon as I discovered it. And the sum of the little things, the exceedingly tasteful and loving furnishings, as well as the perfectly equipped kitchen, have led me to crown the water tower in Großheringen today as the most perfect accommodation in my life.

Everything was great, we felt very comfortable. The only point of criticism is the location, which obviously cannot be changed. However, the traffic, especially in the evenings and at night, is really extreme. It becomes uncomfortable when young people try out their mopeds in the evenings! The train traffic, on the other hand, hardly bothers us.

Freut uns, dass es Ihnen bei uns gefallen hat. Leider war zu Ihrer Urlaubs-Zeit etwas mehr Verkehr gewesen, da es Umleitungen im Landkreis gab und dadurch einige mehr als sonst üblich die Strecke über Großheringen genutzt haben. Die Dorfjugend selbst ist leider nicht immer Rücksichtsvoll und anscheinend ist es einigen Eltern auch egal, das ihre Kinder immer mal wieder mit Ihren frisierten Simsons das Dorf durchqueren. Wir werden wohl mal wieder mit dem Ortsbürgermeister reden müssen. Danke für den Hinweis.

Die Spielscheune war eine tolle Ergänzung, die wir auch spielerisch mit Kicker, Tischtennis, Dart, Schach u.a. genutzt haben.
Besonders begeistert haben mich die vielen kleinen Design-Highlights, wie zB die Lampen, Abluftgestaltung und vorallem die Aufhängung für den Fenster-Vorhang im Bad (mit dem integrierten Wasserhahn), sowie die blauen U-Boot-Leuchten im Flur, die leuchteten, wenn im Bad Licht war. Was für ein grandioses "Besetzt"-Signal.
Ich habe in meinem Leben in hunderten außergewöhnliche Hotels, AirBnBs, Ferienwohnungen und sonstige Übernachtungsmöglichkeiten in über 80 Ländern der Welt genächtigt. Darunter gab es auch luxeriösere, abenteuerlichere und noch außergewöhnliche Orte. Aber:
Der Wasserturm war unter all diesen Übernachtungen bisher die Nr. 1, was die Durchdachtheit und Perfektion der Vorbereitung bis ins kleinste Detail betrifft, um den Gästen einen optimalen Aufenthalt zu ermöglichen. Wahnsinn!
Ich habe jede neue Kleinigkeit gefeiert, sobald ich sie endeckt hatte. Und die Summe der Kleinigkeiten, die überaus geschmackvolle und liebevolle Einrichtung sowie die perfekt ausgestattete Küche haben dazu geführt, dass ich den Wasserturm Großheringen heute zur weltweit perfektesten Unterkunft in meinem Leben küren darf.

Einziger Kritikpunkt ist die Lage, die kann natürlich nunmal nicht verändert werden. Aber der Durchgangsverkehr ist gerade Abends und Nachts schon extrem.
Wenn dann noch Jugendliche Abends ihre Mopeds ausprobieren wirds unangenehm !
Der Bahn-Verkehr dagegen stört hierbei kaum.

Wunderschöne und geschmackvolle Einrichtung.
Preis ist schon recht teuer. Jedoch: um so mehr Leute mitfahren, um so günstiger wird auch der Preis pro Nacht.
Kleines Wespenproblem im obersten Geschoss wurde sofort behoben.
Mit Auto ist die Lage OK, da man dann einige Ausflüge machen kann, die nicht einfach per Bahn erreichbar sind. Zbsp Belantis Leipzig oder essen gehen in den umliegenden Orten.
Die Spielscheune bot mehr Möglichkeiten als wir in der kurzen Zeit nutzen konnten, wir denken für Familien mit Kindern ist es ideal und kommen sehr gerne wieder.
Als Fahrradfahrer haben wir die schöne Umgebung auf gut angelegten und beschilderten Radwegen auf angenehme Art erkunden und genießen können.

Schon bei der Ankunft wurden wir herzlich von den Vermietern begrüßt und erhielten viele gute Vorschläge für mögliche Ausflüge in der schönen Umgebung von Thüringen, sehr empfehlenswert ist auch das nahegelegene Freibad. Auf diesem Weg möchten wir uns bei Familie Möller ganz herzlich bedanken, dass wir in diesem schönen Urlaubsdomizil einen so erholsamen Urlaub verbringen durften
Ganz vielen Dank für den Tipp mit der Gaststätte Fischhaus!!! (Man sollte vorher nur telefonisch anfragen, ob eine Reservierung notwendig ist, denn bei schönem Wetter ist die Location sehr gefragt.)
Der Wasserturm an sich bietet ebenfalls viele Möglichkeiten zur Freizeitgestaltung, von Bücherecke über Gesellschaftsspiele und Malzubehör, TV, Musik und die Spielescheune bietet schon von der Gestaltung her viel zu entdecken. Wir selbst haben ausgiebig Tischtennis gespielt, aber auch Fahrräder sind vorhanden, Liegen, Grillmöglichkeit u.v.m. . Aber was soll ich alles aufzählen, schaut es euch selbst an und sammelt eure eigenen Eindrücke.
Das Projekt Wasserturm liegt den Besitzern sehr am Herzen, das merkt man an daran, mit wie viel Liebe zum Detail er eingerichtet worden ist, jede Etage bekam so ihren ganz eigenen Charakter.
Ein kleines Manko ist die Lage direkt zwischen Bahnhof und Hauptstraße.
FAZIT: sehr empfehlenswert.
Die Ausstattung ist hervorragend es fehlt eigentlich an nicht . Von A-Z alles da für Kinder und die Eltern oder Oma und Opa so wie bei uns unsere 3. Enkelkinder haben sich pudelwohl gefühlt und wir natürlich auch.
Weiter so!!
Wer sich nichts aus Treppen macht, ab und zu einen Güterzug vorbeifahren sehen mag und das Ungewöhnliche zum Wohnen erleben möchte, ist hier genau richtig.
Man kann gut umliegende Ausflugsziele in der Natur oder auch Städte erreichen.
Wir hatten bestes Wetter und waren daher nur unterwegs ua in Weimar und Bad Sulza.
Die Spielscheune mit all den tollen Sachen hätten wir gern genutzt, aber es fehlte einfach die Zeit.
Im Turm hatten wir alles was wir benötigten und noch vieles mehr.
Den hier ist uns die Flexibilität vorbehalten und da sind wir auf den Wasserturm gestoßen.
Der Wasserturm ist eine schöne Ferienwohnung auf 5. Etagen. Vor allem unter dem Dach wo die Kinder ihr Lager und Betten hatten, der Wasserturm war ein großes Erlebnis und ein großer Wohlfühlfaktor. Das schöne war die Liebe zum Detail bei der Einrichtung. Der Garten ist perfekt und ausreichend die Kinder konnten toben und bei schlechtem Wetter geht’s in den Spielstadel hier gibt es Tischtennis, Dart und andere Spielmöglichkeiten.
Langeweile kam nie auf Großheringen ist gut gelegen, man konnte mit dem Auto alles erreichen.
Ausflugsziele gibt es genug, die Burgen in der Fülle im Umkreis.
Der Vermieter nahm sich bei der Schlüsselübergabe Zeit und ging mit uns Gemeinsam in den Wasserturm und zeigte uns jede Etage, die Kommunikation im Vorfeld lies keine Fragen offen,
die Anreise war somit perfekt.
Ganz großes Lob an die Besitzer!!!
Jederzeit sehr gern wieder
Verglichen mit anderen Ferienhäusern bzw. -unterkünften ist der Aufenthalt im Wasserturm recht hochpreisig (auch da bauweisebedingt die Anzahl der Schlafzimmer (2) und Badezimmer (1) - und damit der Personen - eingeschränkt ist).
Allerdings "rechnet" sich ein Verweilen im Wasserturm allemal. Der komplette Turm ist schön "herausgeputzt", sauber, komfortabel und durchweg modern eingerichtet, gut ausgestattet (Bad/Dusche, Küchenutensilien etc.), alle Geräte "wie neu" und funktionstüchtig (W-Lan dank Repeater im kompletten Turm) usw.
Dazu lädt die große Scheune zum Spielen ein, stehen u.a. Tischtennisplatte und gegen kleinen Aufpreis Fahrräder zur Verfügung (alles eher funktionell denn neu, aber für einen Rundlauf um die Platte und kleinere Touren mit den Rädern vollkommen ausreichend). Wir haben die meiste Zeit - wenn wir nicht unterwegs waren - im bzw. am Wasserturm zum Spielen in der Scheune verbracht.
Abgesehen vom nahegelegenen Bahnverkehr (den wir nicht als störend empfunden haben, zumal die Bahngeräusche im Turm kaum zu hören sind) ist der Wasserturm in eine schöne Gegend mit vielen Ausflugs- und Aktivitätsmöglichkeiten eingebettet. So haben wir bspw. eine Radtour entlang von Saale- und Ilmtalradweg, eine Kanutour auf der Saale und einen Tagesausflug nach Erfurt unternommen.
Zuletzt noch vielen Dank an Familie Möller für die freundliche und hilfreiche Kommunikation, den netten Empfang und die einwandfreie Vorbereitung und Präsentation des Wasserturms.
Wir können den Aufenthalt im Turm sehr empfehlen - vorausgesetzt man ist einigermaßen gut zu Fuß.
Für uns als Familie mit Kindern und Hund war es bis jetzt das schönste Ferienhaus.
Auch die Vermieter waren sehr nett.

Auch wenn wir zu dieser Jahreszeit den liebevoll angelegten und mit kleinen Accessoires gespickten Garten und die Aktivitäten in der Scheune – Tischtennis – nicht genutzt haben, so konnten wir doch die traumhafte Umgebung in der „Toskana Thüringens“ bei Wanderungen erleben.
Wir wünschen euch, dass möglichst viele Urlauber eure Gastfreundlichkeit und die Liebe zum Detail, die ihr in den Wasserturm steckt, erkennen und euch einen Besuch abstatten.

Sollten wir wieder eine Übernachtung in der Nähe planen, dann brauche ich nicht lange überlegen wo! :-)
Alles war sauber, bezogene Betten, frische Handtücher und Fön, eine ausführliche Infomappe zu den Freizeitmöglichkeiten und Ausflugszielen der Region. Auch Wanderkarten haben nicht gefehlt.
Wir wurden sehr freundlich von den Eigentümern begrüßt und erhielten eine ausführliche Führung durch den Turm.
Unseren Hund war auch mit und fand Wassernapf, Hundehandtüchern und Leckerli. Dazu genügend Auslauffläche im umzäunten Garten. Unser Auto konnten wir in der Scheune parken, welche auch Tischtennis u.a. Freizeitaktivitäten bietet. Leider war es im Januar zu kalt, um alles zu nutzen.
In der nähe ist ein Supermarkt mit Bäcker und die Toskanatherme, deren Besuch nur zu empfehlen ist. Wir haben noch einen schönen Ausflug nach Naumburg gemacht und dort den Dom und die Altstadt besichtigt.
