"Take a break" ... in our beautiful water tower, the only one in central Germany where you can stay as guests. Treat yourself to a few days off from everyday life and enjoy the beautiful countryside and the many nearby sights and towns
The minimum rental period for this property is

If you arrive with your electric car or use your own e-bike, you can charge it directly at our play barn via 230V plug or at the in-house wallbox (charging plug type 2) with in-house solar power or green electricity from Greenpeace-Energy
The Großheringen water tower was built in 1899 as a water tower for the railway and was thoroughly renovated in 1995-1998 and extensively modernised and renovated in 2015-2016. An exceptional holiday home not only for railway fans.
You have around 95m² of living space spread over 5 floors. You can reach the roof via 67 steps. In the cold season, underfloor heating provides warmth. No extra costs for cleaning, W-Lan, bed linen and towels.
The tower has a fully equipped modern fitted kitchen on the ground floor with electric cooker, oven/grill, dishwasher, fridge with freezer compartment, as well as plenty of crockery and cooking utensils. A washing machine is also at your disposal. The dining table comfortably seats 5 adults.
In the living room you can sit comfortably on the round couch, listen to music, watch TV and videos or surf the internet via the free wi-fi. A small selection of DVDs and CDs is available.
The 2nd floor houses the reading and games corner in the anteroom. Here you can choose from an extensive collection of books, magazines and games while sitting in a wing chair. Through a water-glass door you enter the bathroom area, equipped with WC, washbasin, shower with seating area, hairdryer and towels. The ceiling of the room here is formed by the floor of the old historic water tank made of cast steel.
On the way to the 3rd floor you can take a look inside the water tank floor. Around 40m³ of cooling water was stored here for the steam locomotives of the Deutsche Reichsbahn until the 1960s. Once you have reached the top, you will find yourself in the bedroom, the former water tank (dismantled). In addition to a comfortable double bed and a sofa bed, you will find enough storage space for your clothes and travel utensils.
Via a solid wood space-saving staircase you reach the sleeping loft. Here are 3 more cosy bunks, which are very popular with children as well as adults. (slatted frames with real mattresses set into the floor) From here you have a beautiful view of the green surroundings and the adjacent railway area through the skylights.
The 2 bedrooms are not rooms that can be closed off with doors. Each floor is a whole room. Only the bathroom can be closed with a door.
The outside area offers space for 2 cars, a cosy outdoor seating area with garden furniture, lawns, basketball court and well-kept flower garden with forest path. 2 garden loungers, hammock and hanging chairs invite you to relax. Table tennis, darts and foosball can be played in the barn, not only in rainy weather. 4 bicycles can be used for excursions for a small fee. Fire bowl with firewood and open-air barbecue with charcoal available. A picnic basket is available for excursions.

Location and surroundings of object
The water tower stands on the outskirts of the municipality of Großheringen. near where the Ilm flows into the Saale and the Ilm Cycle Path, 3km from Bad Sulza or Bad Kösen and 14km from Naumburg and Apolda, in the Weimarer Land, federal state of Thuringia. This region is also called the Tuscany of the East because of its landscape, climate and viticulture. From here you can reach cities worth seeing such as Weimar, Erfurt, Halle, Jena, Sömmerda and Leipzig in a short time.
Below the property is the railway area with a manageable train service. it is a 300-metre walk to the railway station, from where regional trains run at regular intervals to Naumburg, Halle, Leipzig, Apolda, Weimar, Erfurt, Jena and Sömmerda
Above, there is a village road with moderate traffic and a small residential area with adjoining woodland and vineyards, ideal for hiking and walking your dog. The Ilm and Saale rivers flow through the village. The Saale is ideal for canoeing through the famous Saale valley with its many castles and vineyards. In the village you will find a dog sports field, riding arena, tennis courts, football field, playground and a landing stage for paddle boats with a rest area. In Bad Sulza, 3 km away, you will find a beautiful open-air swimming pool, the Toskana-Therme with sauna area, recommendable gastronomy and extensive shopping facilities, as well as a hairdresser, post office, doctors and pharmacy
Take a canoe trip on the Saale, relax in the Toskanatherme and sauna facilities in Bad Sulza, cycle through the Weimarer Land on the Ilmradweg. Take a trip by car or train

Environmentally friendly holiday home: Arrival is also possible by bike or train. The train station Großheringen, as well as the Ilmradweg and the Saale-Radweg are only 300m away. The water tower is powered by green electricity from Greenpeace Energie. From July 2020, a 10 kW photovoltaic system will supply the tower and your electric car with solar power. We practice waste separation and ask our holidaymakers to avoid waste. We use only recycled paper for mail, advertising and in the household. The tower is insulated with hemp and cellulose, as much wood as possible is used and the floors are PVC-free.

Everything was great, we felt very comfortable. The only point of criticism is the location, which obviously cannot be changed. However, the traffic, especially in the evenings and at night, is really extreme. It becomes uncomfortable when young people try out their mopeds in the evenings! The train traffic, on the other hand, hardly bothers us.

Freut uns, dass es Ihnen bei uns gefallen hat. Leider ist zur Zeit etwas mehr Verkehr gewesen, da es Umleitungen im Landkreis gab und dadurch einige mehr als sonst die Strecke über Großheringen genutzt haben. Die Dorfjugend selbst ist leider nicht immer Rücksichtsvoll und anscheinend ist es einigen Eltern auch egal, das ihre Kinder immer mal wieder mit Ihren frisierten Simsons das Dorf durchqueren. Wir werden wohl mal wieder mit dem Ortsbürgermeister reden müssen. Danke für den Hinweis.

Small wasp problem on the top floor was solved immediately.
The location is OK with a car, as you can then make some excursions that are not easily accessible by train. For example, Belantis Leipzig or eating out in the surrounding towns.

Für den Mietpreis bekommen unsere Gäste aber alles inklusive, Nebenkosten, Endreinigung, großes Garten-Grundstück, Freizeitscheune, Fahrräder, Brennholz, Grillkohle, Bettwäsche, Handtücher, 5 voll ausgestattete Wohn-Räume... und eine wirklich nicht alltägliche Unterkunft. Unter den wenigen mietbaren Wasserturm-Objekten sind wir übrigens in Deutschland mit Abstand die preiswertesten Anbieter.

Wonderful short holiday
We received a very friendly welcome and felt very comfortable in this somewhat different accommodation, everything was available that is necessary for a pleasant stay, the tower is lovingly furnished, everything was very clean and tidy
The play barn offered more possibilities than we could use in the short time, we think it is ideal for families with children and would be very happy to come back.

Favorite place
The accommodation leaves nothing to be desired! With every step, you discover new, loving details. You just don't want to leave again! With 95 square meters + a play barn, even rainy weather doesn't stand a chance. Cycling tours with or without altitude meters are practically on the doorstep. Holiday in a completely different way "in the water tower"
It was very nice and relaxing days with you. The water tower is very idyllic and lovingly furnished down to the smallest detail. We had a wonderful and eventful vacation at the water tower, which is equipped with a lot of attention to detail. The time was much too short, because there is so much to discover in the water tower and on the large adjoining property with a game barn and beautiful garden area. Bicycles are also available. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by the landlords and received many good suggestions for possible excursions in the beautiful surroundings of Thuringia. The nearby public swimming pool is also highly recommended. We would like to thank the Möller family very much for allowing us to spend such a relaxing holiday in this beautiful vacation home.

Water tower sweet dream
We had wonderful days in the converted water tower in Großheringen. The accommodation is unique, extraordinary, and pure luxury. With so much attention to detail. There is a lot to discover in the water tower and on the large, adjoining property. Not just a dream for children. Our German Shepherd felt very comfortable. Roasting bread over the campfire, entertaining game nights, exploring nature by bike, and taking a quiet break in the reading corner, there are so many possibilities to escape everyday life here. Just switch off
The hosts are super nice, contact before and during the vacation was excellent. There was enough information in advance about activities, and there are plenty of information available in the water tower on what you can do. Thank you very much for the tip with the restaurant Fischhaus!!! (It is advisable to inquire by telephone beforehand whether a reservation is necessary because the location is very popular in good weather.) The water tower itself also offers many opportunities for recreational activities, from a library corner to board games and art supplies, TV, music, and the game barn already offers a lot to discover in terms of design. We played a lot of table tennis ourselves, but there are also bicycles available, loungers, barbecue facilities, and much more. But why should I list everything, see it for yourself and collect your own impressions. The Water Tower project is very dear to the owners, you can tell by how much attention to detail it has been furnished, each floor has its own unique character.
A small downside is its location directly between the train station and the main street.

Accommodation is great, garden is very nice. However, the road that runs directly next to the tower is sometimes very loud. Mornings and evenings! Speeding up because it's the outskirts. Dogs should naturally be accustomed to stairs, our dog had no problem. Car is highly recommended, no restaurant was open.

Die Gaststätte direkt im Ort ist geschlossen, aber im Umkreis von 5 km sind einige gute Restaurants zu finden. Leider haben diese wegen den Corona-Auflagen zur Zeit sehr unterschiedliche Öffnungszeiten, da sollte man sich vorher online informieren und ggf reservieren. Menschen, die gerne mal aufs Gaspedal ihres Autos oder Motorrades drücken kennen wir ja alle, die fehlen leider auch in Großheringen nicht, trotz öfteren Geschwindigkeitskontrollen. Aber das Verkehrsaufkommen hat sich stark reduziert, seit Großheringen keine Hauptstrecke mehr ist, sondern die B7 etwas weiter entfernt den Hauptverkehr nach Bad Kösen und Naumburg aufnimmt.

Außergewöhnliches Ferienhaus
The water tower was really great. Very nice and cozy furnished. Everything was very clean. We didn't miss anything. The play barn was also wonderful. Many games for young and old, with a lot of fun. The location is perfect. Only a 5-minute walk to the train station, so you can easily leave the car behind to reach other cities comfortably. CONCLUSION: highly recommended.

The water tower is a very beautiful object, it can only be recommended.

Not only because of its original location in a former water tower, this holiday home is absolutely fantastic. The accommodation is decorated with great attention to detail, very clean, well-maintained, and very well-equipped. Nothing is missing here. The apartment in the tower is spacious enough for 4 people (of course, climbing stairs is required), but an additional highlight is the large barn with a ping pong table and many other extras (e.g. bicycles for rent). Here you can sit wonderfully and spend summer evenings by the grill or fire pit (everything included). Many recreational opportunities, especially in nature all around. Conclusion: a perfect holiday home!

unique and beautiful
... time was too short
We had great weather and were therefore on the go, among other places in Weimar and Bad Sulza.
We would have loved to use the play barn with all the great things, but time was simply missing.
In the tower, we had everything we needed and much more.

First and fabulous vacation in the water tower
We mostly use the holidays to travel as a family and don't want to stay in a typical hotel.
Because here we value flexibility, we came across the water tower.
The water tower is a beautiful vacation rental on 5 floors. Especially under the roof where the children had their camp and beds, the water tower was a great experience and a big comfort factor. The nice thing was the attention to detail in the furnishings. The garden is perfect and spacious, the children could romp around, and in bad weather, they can go to the play barn where there is table tennis, darts, and other games available.
There was never a dull moment. Großheringen is well located, and you can reach everything by car.
There are plenty of excursion destinations, such as the many castles in the surrounding area. The landlord took his time during the key handover and accompanied us into the water tower, showing us every floor. The communication beforehand left no questions unanswered, so the arrival was perfect.

We have never stayed in such a lovingly and thoughtfully equipped holiday apartment, which gains an extra charm through the special ambiance of the water tower.

Water tower Großheringen - special, beautiful, well equipped!
We spent a long weekend in the water tower with 4 friends.
Compared to other holiday homes or accommodations, a stay in the water tower is quite expensive (also because the number of bedrooms (2) and bathrooms (1) - and thus the number of people - is limited).
However, a stay in the water tower "always pays off. The entire tower is beautifully "spruced up", clean, comfortable and modernly furnished throughout, well equipped (bathroom/shower, kitchen utensils etc.), all appliances "like new" and functional (wi-fi thanks to repeater in the entire tower) etc.
In addition, the large barn invites you to play, there is a table tennis table and, for a small surcharge, bicycles (everything is more functional than new, but perfectly adequate for a run around the table and smaller tours with the bikes). We spent most of our time - when we were not out and about - in or around the water tower playing in the barn.
Apart from the nearby railway traffic (which we did not find disturbing, especially as the railway noise is hardly audible in the tower), the water tower is embedded in a beautiful area with many excursion and activity possibilities. For example, we went on a cycling tour along the Saale and Ilmtal cycle paths, a canoe tour on the Saale and a day trip to Erfurt.
Finally, many thanks to the Möller family for the friendly and helpful communication, the nice welcome and the flawless preparation and presentation of the water tower.
We can highly recommend staying in the tower - provided you are reasonably good on foot.

Experience on 5 floors
At the beginning of the holiday, you go on a discovery tour in this accommodation and even on the last day you still find lovely original details - from the harmoniously colour-coordinated furnishings, to great toys and books, to the curtain rod with water tap....

A truly top-class vacation rental. Very good and tasteful, high-quality amenities. Lovely hosts who know what one needs in a holiday home. Beautiful magazines and books, but also great games for children were available. The location, close to a train station, quickly takes you to Erfurt, Weimar, Bad Kösen, etc. Beautiful garden and great barn with many play opportunities for young and old.

This tower leaves nothing to be desired, superbly maintained, lovingly renovated, meticulously thought out down to the last detail, nothing is missing!

Exotic, super clean, and modern; of course, in a tower, there are many stairs; the leisure activities in the barn on the fenced property are great; unfortunately, there is a lot of clearly audible train traffic on the adjacent railway premises, and the road is also heavily trafficked; good location for excursions (by car); suitable for electric cars - charging at the Schuko socket works well and safely; we would definitely come back.

If I write something here, everyone wants to go there.
I'm not writing anything. Not about the play barn where we romped around every evening or the garden we wandered through every day, always finding something new. I'm not writing about basketball games with the kids or grilling with chilled music from the CD player. Above all, I'm not saying anything about a holiday apartment that shows the landlords have seen a couple of other apartments and apparently decided to do it much better than the others. There is nothing patched together or haphazard. Everything is there and everything works, is practical or at least beautiful. Not even the children have found anything to complain about. However, we had to change our vacation plans as the information material inspired us to do other things. Also, I didn't make progress with my book because I always found other interesting reading material on the shelf. Perhaps I would write something about nice landlords who really know the area well. But I won't write anything. I'll keep it secret and go back there myself.

Wellness days with friends in a beautiful holiday home
4 girls, a long (yet too short) weekend, no men, no children, and a great tower-shaped holiday home with all the extras. And nearby the Tuscan spa and nice restaurants, jogging paths, table tennis in the barn, and cozy beds for sleeping in. We all really enjoyed it, would love to come back, maybe even with our men and children.

Very nice!!
The landlords are very accommodating and provide a lot of information about the area and leisure activities. Make sure to really go wild this time
With the motto of the landlords "Make it blue", we started the weekend and even the gray of November could not deter us. We arrived at a very well-maintained domicile, whose equipment is original, thought out to the smallest detail, and color-coordinated with the theme. On each floor of the water tower, whether in the fully equipped kitchen with a cozy bench reminiscent of a train compartment, on the living floor with a huge lounging couch, in the reading corner, even in the bathroom where even the shower gel says "Take a break", one can simply feel comfortable, relax, and enjoy time with friends. In the evening, one can settle down on the comfortable sleeping accommodations and actually do not need the earplugs that are provided in the nightstand, as the trains passing by nearby are not really disturbing. And if the vacation time was not enough, there is even a small piggy bank on the reading days for the book one would like to finish reading at home. Even though at this time of year we did not use the lovingly designed garden with small accessories and the activities in the barn - table tennis - we were able to experience the dreamlike surroundings in the "Tuscany of Thuringia" during hikes.
We wish that as many vacationers as possible recognize your hospitality and the attention to detail that you put into the water tower and pay you a visit.

Absolutely beautiful!
Staying in a former water tower is something special. Add to that the friendly welcome from the landlords, the perfect furnishings of the tower. Everything is simply well thought out. The garden is wonderful, and for children, the barn with a ping pong table is very nice. The surroundings offer a lot of variety: hiking - swimming - cycling - visiting cities... Residence in the "Tower"
Yes, it is quite extraordinary to live in a water tower. But the pictures give you a real impression, and you can see that it's advisable to be good on foot. Even my mother-in-law, 78 years old, managed it excellently. Very nice landlords, they explain everything, and in over 30 years of vacation rental experience, I have never had such a fully equipped apartment. For parents with children absolutely top, table tennis, badminton, hammock, games, books, etc. Since we were without children, we were on a cultural trip: Weimar, Erfurt, Apolda, Geiseltalsee, Naumburg, Bad Sulza, Bad Kösen, and even Leipzig (83 km) are all centrally accessible. The only deduction of a star is for the location, and a review should be honest; as it is a water tower, the train is not far away. Regional trains every hour and occasional freight trains must also be taken into account acoustically in the morning at seven. One must make peace with it, and it cannot be a reason for complaint afterwards. In this sense, I wish further tenants much enjoyment in this almost unique domicile.

Vielen Dank für die prima Bewertung. Leider fanden gerade in dieser Woche Gleisarbeiten in der Nähe des Grundstückes statt, so dass es frühs schon etwas lauter zuging als sonst. Eigentlich hört man nur die gelegentlich vorbeifahrenden Güterzüge. Die Regionalbahn ansich ist relativ geräuscharm. Aber wie wir auch schon schrieben: Zuggeräusche gehören bei einem Eisenbahn-Wasserturm ja irgendwie zum Ambiente, zumal der Bahnhof nur 300m entfernt ist.

An exceptional holiday home! Absolute recommendation!
We were more than satisfied!!! Everything was perfect and done with so much attention to detail. You can tell that you have really put a lot of thought and spared no expense in creating a wonderful and exceptional holiday home. There was a lot to discover. An extra point is awarded for the fact that dogs are warmly welcomed here and even the garden is completely fenced in. If we plan another stay in the area, I won't have to think long about where to stay! :-)

Unique ambiance with loving details
I am sure that this accommodation will not lack excellent reviews, as the landlords make a great effort to make the vacation as pleasant as possible for their guests. Lovingly arranged, thematically appropriate accessories make this "tower" furnished in an industrial style a cozy and warm refuge. From the children's play and sleeping area at the very top of the 5th .... From the stylish bedroom of the parents on the top floor to the elegant bathroom down to the fully equipped kitchen on the ground floor - you will find everything that should not be missing on vacation and much more. We were very satisfied and can wholeheartedly recommend the water tower.

Living in the water tower, truly a unique vacation home.
We were guests at the Water Tower Großheringen for 3 days. This vacation home is truly unique. High-quality, extensive equipment, kitchen with everything you need, cozy living room with TV, and a nice bathroom with a shower. Additionally, a very comfortable bedroom with a double bed at the top and a charming sleeping loft in the tower's peak, which was especially popular with the children. Everything was clean, beds were made, fresh towels and hairdryer provided, a detailed information folder on leisure options and excursion destinations in the region. Also, hiking maps were not missing.
We were greeted very friendly by the owners and received a detailed tour of the tower.
Our dog was also with us and found a water bowl, dog towels, and treats. In addition, there was enough space to run around in the fenced garden. We were able to park our car in the barn, which also offers table tennis and other leisure activities. Unfortunately, it was too cold in January to enjoy everything.
Nearby is a supermarket with a bakery and the Toskana Therme, which is highly recommended to visit. We also had a nice trip to Naumburg and explored the cathedral and old town there.
Thank you for the lovely and somewhat different hostel.
