Location and surroundings of object
The Fiets Inn is located on the Dorfstraße in Lage, a small village right on the Dutch border. The wild natural garden at the back opens up to an extensive landscape conservation area with heron rookery and many cycling and walking paths, on this side and the other side of the border.
The nature garden with a view of the moat, the ruins of the former moated castle, the historic water mill with miller's house, the baroque village church, the manor house and the historic residential and farm buildings of the servants and, not to forget, the stations of the art trail route, guarantee recreation with experience value.
Lage is an excellent starting point for extensive cycling and hiking tours, both in Grafschaft Bentheim and beyond the Dutch border.
In a partly flat, partly slightly hilly landscape with lots of greenery and water, you can spend days discovering ever new, interesting routes.
Lage also lies on the kunstwegen route. "kunstwegen", one of the largest open museums in Europe, with more than 60 sculpture projects by international artists, on a route of approx. 140 kilometres, which runs from Nordhorn to Zwolle in the Netherlands through the scenic Vechte valley.
The small town of Lage alone has three art trail stations to offer, all of which can be easily reached on foot.
Special sights are the church built in 1687, the water mill (built in 1270), the castle ruins (first mentioned in a document in 1183, destroyed in 1324-1326 and 1626), the manor house (built in 1686) and the historic oak avenue with the old houses of the employees of the manor house.
The additional name Herrlichkeit Lage refers to the time between the end of the Thirty Years' War and the year 1803, when Lage was an independent small state with its own jurisdiction.
Today, Lage is a popular tourist destination in the heart of the county due to its historical background and its diverse scenic attractions for hikers and cyclists.
Our house is only a stone's throw away from the oldest town in Twente, Ootmarsum. A place with a historic centre and probably the largest gallery density in the Netherlands, if not in the world - unbelievable, but true.
For this destination we can offer you (among other cycling routes) an elaborated and scenic day tour. Lage is a municipality on the Dinkel in the district of Grafschaft Bentheim in Lower Saxony with 1074 inhabitants. It belongs to the joint municipality of Neuenhaus and lies directly on the border to the Netherlands.

Cancellation terms:
(1) Tenants who cancel at least 60 days before arrival will receive a 100% refund of the rental price. Tenants who cancel between 30 and 60 days before arrival will receive a 50% refund of the rental price. Otherwise, there are no refunds. (2) The tenant has the right to provide a substitute tenant who takes over the holiday home in full. A fee of 50.00 Euros may be charged for this. Cancellation fees will then not be charged. (3) In the event of a forced cancellation of the booking due to the Corona pandemic, no cancellation fees will be charged.

Bentheim Castle or the climatic health resort of Uelsen, about 7.5 kilometres away by bike, with its modern open-air swimming pool (Waldbad) are also worth a visit and - not to be forgotten - the 'water town of Nordhorn', the district town with about 50,000 inhabitants.
Spend a day in the zoo, explore the town by pedal boat or one of the two tour boats, relax at Lake Vechte or take an adventure tour by canoe on the Vechte.
The entire region also offers a variety of options for those interested in culture, such as museums, cultural events, exhibitions or historical sites. There is something for everyone.
If you would like to explore more distant destinations in the entire county by bike, but would like to save yourself exhausting journeys there or back by bike, you can also use the hourly Fietsenbus, which takes you and your bike to many corners of the county, from where you can comfortably "experience" the routes that seem worthwhile to you.
However, the operating times of the Fietsenbus are limited.

Perfect accommodation
The "Fiets Inn" was the perfect accommodation for our group: large rooms with private bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, and a cozy living room. Even individuals with disabilities could move around well in the house. A great outdoor area rounded off the stay.

Super family weekend
I spent a very relaxing family weekend with my three adult children, their partners and grandchild in this lovely holiday home. Everything was as described, actually even better. We really liked the successful furnishing with the old/modern mix. The modern pictures create their own atmosphere. Very practical: each room has its own bathroom. Everything very clean. Kitchen: everything available, more than at home. Very obliging, yet discreet care by the host!
The surroundings encouraged us to go for walks and bike rides.
