This quote from Richard Bach’s classic "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" was our guiding principle in realizing our dream—and gave our thatched-roof idyll on the North Sea its name: "De Meeuw Jonathan".

Featured in the living magazine "Schöner Wohnen", this exclusive thatched holiday home combines Frisian architecture and antique country house charm on a 1,300 sqm protected dune property on Ameland. Whether cozy for two or for families of up to 8 people—here you will find an incomparable oasis of well-being at any time of year.

The spacious, light-flooded living and dining area impresses with antique Dutch tiles, historic softwood furniture, and floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the untouched dune landscape. A glass-enclosed gas fireplace provides cozy warmth on cooler days.

The dream holiday home "De Meeuw Jonathan" is located in a quiet, established thatched-roof area on a 1,300 sqm dune property between the idyllic island villages of Nes and Buren.

Via the nearby dune sand path, you can reach the 27 km long, fine sandy North Sea beach in just 5 minutes on foot.

DISCOVER AMELAND & SURROUNDINGS:
► Activities on your doorstep: 90 km of developed cycle paths through dunes, meadows, and fields, golf course, riding stables, water sports, and mudflat hiking.
► Family & leisure: In the immediate vicinity there is a freely accessible recreation area with adventure playgrounds.
► Culinary & culture: The historic center of Nes enchants with listed houses, cozy cafés, and excellent gastronomy.
► Excursions: In summer, boat tours to the seal banks as well as to the neighboring islands are offered. The mainland is accessible via the 45-minute ferry connection.

Cancellation terms:

If a tenant cancels, 50% of the rental price is due up to 8 weeks before the start of the rental period. In case of short-term cancellation, within 8 weeks prior to the start of the rental, the full rental price must be paid. Substitute tenants can be proposed by the tenant. However, the landlord is not generally obligated to accept them. If re-renting during a cancelled period is possible, the landlord will refund the tenant's payment, offset by the difference in a potentially lower replacement rent and a processing fee for additional expenses of €120.00.

This house welcomes you with so much coziness and attention to detail that you immediately feel at home. For us, one of the most beautiful houses on Ameland. Since 2019, we have been happy to return again and again.

House in the Dunes

We had a wonderful stay at the Möwe despite the mixed weather. Mrs. von Sobbe was a very nice contact person, and the house was in very good condition, absolutely clean and well-maintained, furnished with great attention to detail. We felt very comfortable there.

beautiful authentic Ameland house

We felt very comfortable with our 3 children in the Seagull Jonathan. The house is very spacious and lovingly furnished to a high standard. The location directly behind the dunes, easy access to Buren and Nes by bike, as well as the supermarket, was very practical. We were almost happy about a rainy (house) day here.

A gem of cosiness

Relaxation begins as soon as you arrive at the holiday home

Thank you very much for a wonderful Easter holiday week in your very beautiful and well-kept house!
As soon as you enter the house you can feel the love, warmth and energy that have been invested in many small comfort details...
A great floor, a wonderful creaking staircase, many very nice pictures and paintings, kitchen and bathroom deliberately made old... If you like this style you will love the house, like we did!
The swimming pool area with sauna - the daily use of course a must for all small and big water rats!
The proximity to the beautiful beach makes a daily visit to the beach possible....
We say thank you and are already looking forward to seeing you again next year!

Dreamy breaks

We have been going to the beautiful island of Ameland and the house Möwe Jonathan for 20 years now. From the very first time, we have felt very comfortable there. It is not just a vacation rental, the house has "soul" and we always feel at home during our stay. We have also always felt the landlords to be warm and very concerned about our well-being. We will gladly continue going to Möwe Jonathan in the future and enjoy wonderful breaks on the island.

Beautiful, cozy house

I can't agree with the other reviews. The house is very stylish and personally furnished. You really feel at home there. The showers seem to be completely newly renovated. The beds are super comfortable! Yes, the TV is tiny, but we don't want to watch TV on vacation anyway.
There is a good equipment in the kitchen.

"Luxury holiday home"

When I think of a luxury holiday home, I imagine something completely different. Upon entering the house, one is thrilled at first sight. This changes very quickly. The house is outdated in terms of standards. The furniture leaves much to be desired. Starting with the beds, dressers, etc. - more like a youth hostel! Kitchen - coffee machine steams from all the cracks and only about 50% ends up in the pot. The gas stove also has its quirks. The TV is a joke and can't really be called one. The pool is okay, but the counter-current system gave up after 10 minutes. Even after maintenance, there was nothing to be done. The seating is uncomfortable. Too bad about the house, which looks good in the pictures. The house is definitely not worth its price.

Drei analoge Gästebücher voller begeisterter Einträge und zig sehr gute online – Bewertungen. Da tun 2 negative Anmerkungen trotzdem oder gerade deshalb weh!

Aber wir haben verstanden und uns die Punkte angeschaut – und zu Herzen genommen – und ja, auch wenn wir in den Jahren immer wieder renoviert und erneuert haben. Ein paar Dinge waren aufgelaufen und mussten angegangen werden. Insoweit sind wir unseren Kritikern dankbar – wir haben verstanden – wir haben gehört – wir haben gehandelt: Das Haus ist vom Dach bis zum EG (Keller gibt es nicht) frisch gestrichen, Fenster wo erforderlich ausgetauscht, neuer Kühlschrank, neue Kaffeemaschine, Streaming-Stereo-Anlage, neue Gartenliegen und -Polster, neue Matratzen, Bettwäsche und Badetücher, neue Duscharmaturen und Badewanne und noch vieles mehr. Demnächst sogar ein etwas größerer Flatscreen.

Und den Begriff Luxus-Ferienhaus – nur wegen des Schwimmbades - haben wir gerne aus unserer Beschreibung gestrichen. Wir wollen den Schwerpunkt eher auf Individualität, Liebe zum Detail, Atmosphäre und Wohlfühl-Oase setzen. Wir haben versucht ein Haus im Stil eines alten friesischen Reetdachhauses zu bauen – und möglichst viele ursprüngliche Materialien einzusetzen. Wir freuen uns, dass so viele unserer Gäste dies zu schätzen wissen: Alte gebrannte Fußboden-Fließen und Kacheln, aus altem Holz gefertigte Weichholzmöbel, handgefertigte Keramik in Küche und Badezimmer – all das ist vielleicht nicht glatt und ebenmäßig, dafür aber harmonisch und charakteristisch.

Wenn Sie also so etwas suchen, werden Sie sich in unserem Haus Meeuw Jonathan sicher wohl fühlen – vor allem jetzt, wo wieder alles frisch und renoviert ist.

Wir freuen uns auf Sie und hoffen, dass Sie zum gleichen Schluss kommen, wie viele unserer langjährigen Stammgäste: Man kommt an und fühlt sich direkt heimisch!
