Fermignano hosts several events every year, first and foremost the Palio della Rana, a historic tournament with origins dating back to the 17th century and held on the first Sunday after Easter. The undisputed stars of the festival are frogs, who must race a 170-meter course aboard a wheelbarrow guided by a knight. The race is preceded by a parade in beautiful period costumes. The event also features markets, street performers, fireworks, and tastings of traditional products. At the end of summer, on the first Sunday in September, the Gran Premio del Biciclo Ottocentesco (19th-Century Bicycle Grand Prix) takes place, known throughout Italy and abroad for its uniqueness. This race pits the town's seven contrade (districts) against each other over a 3-kilometer course on beautiful bicycles, the ancestors of the bicycle. In addition to the race, the town comes alive with shows, exhibitions, parades, food stands, and markets.
