Holiday flat family holiday Flensburg
Description
The “Ostwind” vacation apartment in the historic St. Johannismühle combines exceptional living with modern comforts. In this lovingly restored Dutch windmill, built in 1808, you’ll experience Flensburg from a very special perspective: high above the city’s rooftops, a stylish duplex apartment awaits you, featuring impressive architecture, historic wooden beams, and a unique atmosphere.
With approximately 80 m² of living space, the apartment accommodates up to four people. The open-concept design across multiple levels, exposed beam structures, and the spacious loft give the accommodation its distinctive character. Large windows provide plenty of light and offer beautiful views over the rooftops of Flensburg. At the same time, the modern Scandinavian-style furnishings create a warm and cozy living atmosphere.
The vacation apartment features two comfortable bedrooms, a modern bathroom with a shower, and a spacious living and dining area with an open kitchen. The kitchen is fully equipped—including a ceramic cooktop, oven, dishwasher, microwave, and coffee maker—and is perfect for relaxing evenings spent cooking. A special feature is the Quooker, an innovative hot water dispenser that provides instant access to boiling water for tea, coffee in a French press, or a stiff grog. High-speed Wi-Fi, a smart TV, and a workspace make the apartment ideal for longer stays as well.
The quiet terrace with a view of Flensburg is particularly charming. Here you can wind down at the end of the day or enjoy your morning with a cup of coffee. There is also a garden with seating and a barbecue area.
The St. Johannismühle is ideally located for exploring Flensburg. Shopping is practically right on your doorstep, and the historic harbor and Old Town are within walking distance. From here, you can discover the maritime atmosphere of the Flensburg Fjord, the beaches of the Baltic Sea coast, or take trips to nearby Denmark.
The combination of historic architecture, modern living comfort, and a central yet quiet location makes the “Ostwind” vacation apartment a special retreat for couples, families, or friends who want to experience Flensburg in an extraordinary way.

Location and surroundings of object
The area surrounding the historic St. Johannismühle delights guests above all with its perfect blend of maritime charm, a lively old town, and short distances. From your accommodation, you can easily reach Flensburg’s historic harbor with its sailing ships, museum harbors, and cozy cafés. Particularly popular are walks along the harbor headland into the charming old town with its small boutiques, courtyards, and typical North German merchant houses.
A real highlight is the famous Rote Straße with its historic courtyards, small galleries, and unique shops. Here, visitors discover Flensburg’s unique charm, blending history with a modern lifestyle. The Nordermarkt, with its restaurants, bars, and outdoor dining, also invites you to linger.
Families and tech enthusiasts appreciate the nearby Phänomenta Flensburg. In this interactive experience center, science and technology can be explored in a playful way—with numerous hands-on experiments for all ages. In particular, the tower, visible from afar with its extraordinary exhibits, is one of the city’s most famous landmarks.
Culture enthusiasts enjoy the proximity to the Flensburg Maritime Museum, which offers fascinating insights into the maritime history of this fjord city. Excursions to the Museumsberg Flensburg are also popular, featuring changing exhibitions and a beautiful view of the city.
Those who enjoy spending time outdoors can quickly reach the Flensburg Fjord, with its promenades, small beaches, and bike paths along the Baltic Sea coast. The nearby beaches in Glücksburg or Wassersleben Strand are ideal for relaxing days by the water. Water sports enthusiasts will also find plenty to enjoy, whether sailing, windsurfing, or stand-up paddleboarding.
Thanks to the proximity to Denmark, spontaneous day trips across the border are also a great option—for example, to the cozy coastal towns of South Jutland or to Sønderborg. Guests particularly appreciate being able to enjoy the tranquility of this unique mill accommodation while still living right in the heart of the fjord town.
