Location
The island of Žirje is the most remote and largest island of the Šibenik archipelago. Known as a fishing village and a rich angling area. It is also known for its natural beauty, clarity and blue sea, for natural, wild, rocky beaches such as those in the bays of Velika and Mala; Stupica and Koromačna, which are also destinations for boaters. The island was once covered with a dense oak forest full of acorns, hence the name. The population here is mainly engaged in the cultivation of vines, olives and figs. The island of Žirje is an ideal place for a peaceful holiday away from the noise of the city. Sports enthusiasts and those seeking recreation can cycle and hike. Due to its distance from the mainland, but also because of the ferry connection with the mainland, Žirje is a desirable place for people who want to spend a quiet holiday and enjoy the benefits of summer. Today, Žirje is connected to the mainland by a ferry that runs several times a day. Žirje is an ideal island for those who wish for a holiday in complete tranquillity away from the hectic everyday life. It consists of a natural wealth of flora, numerous sheltered bays and clear sea, surrounded by numerous islands and reefs. On Žirje you can spend an active holiday by cycling on a 22 km long cycle path, diving, fishing, enjoying homemade food, and swimming and sunbathing.
