Description
The half-timbered house dates back to 1797. It is one of the rare transverse barn houses, in which, unlike other houses in the Wendland, the Groot Döor is not located on the gable side but in the middle of the house on its longitudinal side. Except for the dormer windows, which were built according to old models, the house was modernized and remodeled in the nineties in such a way that its historical shape and core, including its clay walls, have been preserved. As a result, the cross passage has become a large (ceiling height three meters and fifty) bright, light room of more than 40 square meters with an integrated modern kitchen and a dining area for up to twelve people.
On the same level, there are three more rooms (two double rooms of 16 each - and a single room with a small gallery of about 10 sqm) and a bathroom (washing machine) with toilet. This area of the house is approximately 110 square meters and can be rented and lived in independently from the upper floor - with upto five guests.
Through the hallway and stairs, you reach the upper part where there are three more double rooms, accommodating another six guests. Two of the rooms are fifteen square meters each, and the third one is 12 square meters, the latter being a connecting room and set up as a children's room.
On this floor, there is also another shower room with a toilet. All rooms are equipped with beautiful furniture, mostly from the Biedermeier period. In the kitchen, you will find an exceptionally extensive setup for cooking, which includes a large stove with an oven (convection & grill) as well as a dishwasher. A large refrigerator with a separate freezer compartment is, of course, standard.
In the careful renovation and cautious reconstruction of the house, natural, environmentally friendly materials were preferred over others, emphasizing the special character of the house.

Location and surroundings of object
Kukate (the Slavic word for the rooster) is a small village in the Elbufer-Wendland nature park in the southern part of this region. You will find it amidst a charming hilly landscape that has always been sheltered from turbulent developments and has hardly changed in the last hundred years. In one of the few still natural, undeveloped regions of Germany, at the end of the only road, a cul-de-sac that leads into the village of Kukate, you will find the Kukate holiday home.
