Location and surroundings of object
The small town of Santa Bárbara de Nexe in the Faro district with its approximately 4,100 inhabitants (2001) is located amid a garden landscape about 10 km northwest of Faro and only 2 km north of the IP1 highway. As you leave Faro and its suburbs behind, you enter - especially in the months from January to May - a green/colorful meadow landscape with almond trees that is still very pristine. The noisy tourism common in many coastal towns is not at home in this tranquil area.
Additionally, the town has another advantage provided by nature: It is located just below a hill range about 370 meters high - but still high enough that you can look down on the city of Faro and the Atlantic Ocean. The view south into the plain is fantastic, even at night, when the lights of Faro shimmer on the horizon. The through road is narrow, the small square in the town center by the post office is regularly full of parked cars. Therefore, it is advisable to stop already at the town entrance.
The gem and main attraction of the village is the Igreja Matriz, the Gothic church, which is situated slightly elevated right next to the main road, overlooking the small village.
The church dates from the 15th century and has been restored several times over the centuries. It impresses visitors with its puristic design and the original stone sculptures at the altar, which are among the best-preserved examples of medieval religious art in the region. Century and contains typical elements of the Manueline style: stone-carved decorations such as ropes, nets, and corals on the ceiling and pillars. Beautiful old Azulejos can also be seen in the church.

The air conditioning (optional) costs €10.00/day, and if used, the amount will be deducted from your deposit. You should inform us of your arrival time at least 3 days before check-in. Final cleaning is included in the price. NEW! Tourism tax €2.00 per person per day for 7 days = €14.00 per person per stay.
