Description
The Prieuré Saint Martial in Alignan-du-Vent stands for the name of a former monastery, probably built in the 8th century by monks of a Benedictine order on the site of an old Roman villa. The chapel with parts of the bell tower and the well in the courtyard are still preserved from that time. In the 15th century the monks built a new chapel, which still exists today, and in the 18th century the whole monastery was extended.
In 1990, the property was taken over privately and carefully and lovingly transformed into a magnificent place of rest and relaxation. Today, the estate comprises several flats, all of which are privately owned and used by the owners primarily as holiday homes and some of which are also rented out to holidaymakers. A beautiful natural park inhabited by cheerfully chirping birds and chirping cicadas, two well-maintained swimming pools and ample parking are available to all co-owners and their holiday guests.
The Prieuré Saint Martial is located in an oasis surrounded by vineyards in the département of Hérault, in the Occitanie region of southern France. Blessed by the mild Mediterranean climate in a fantastically beautiful location, the site is perfect for cycling, walking and excursions. Not very far away are not only wonderful bathing beaches (approx. 20 minutes by car), but also countless sights, such as the historic town of Pézenas with its numerous antique shops (approx. 5 minutes by car), Béziers with its famous Old Bridge/Pont Vieux (approx. 20 minutes), as well as Narbonne, Agde, the lively Cap 'd'Agde, Sète, Mèze, Montpéllier, Narbonne, Carcassonne, the magnificent Camargue and many other lovely places to discover and explore in the area.
Our flat "Chapitre" is located in the beautiful "inner area" of the estate, here there are 12 residential units situated around the inner courtyard. Of these, 3 flats including the main house are occupied all year round. Another 4 flats are rented to holiday guests. The remaining 5 flats are used exclusively by the French owners as a second home/holiday home.
Our cosy, freshly renovated and approx. 56 m2 loft-like flat has a sleeping area with double bed and spring mattresses (1x hardness level 2 and 3 each), a spacious living and dining area with open fireplace and air conditioning as well as new kitchenette including dishwasher and washing machine, a bathroom with bathtub/shower and separate toilet. Internet access (WLAN) is available free of charge. A new, internet-enabled TV allows you to watch not only French but also German TV channels via the corresponding apps. In addition, a beautiful front garden is also included for your sole use - of course equipped with garden furniture as well as a gas plancha.
You can use the public areas with the two pools and the park with the table tennis table with 2 people and occupy the shared parking space with one vehicle with free choice of space.
The location between the two villages "Tourbes" and "Alignan-du-Vent" is quiet, the connecting road between these villages passes our property. You drive about 2.5 km into the villages, here you will find a bakery, butcher's shop and grocery shop as well as a café and a very typical, genuine southern French atmosphere.
Pézenas is about 6 km away, one of the most beautiful small towns in the south of France with highly interesting buildings from the Renaissance and one of the most beautiful markets every Saturday. Immerse yourself in this authentic southern French atmosphere, discover a region with beautiful beaches and the charm of the nearby Cévennes with gorges and clear rivers that also invite you to swim.

The Prieuré Saint Martial is located in the midst of beautiful nature and vineyards in the beautiful Herault region, which is ideal for excursions of all kinds. From here you can visit beautiful beaches and charming historic villages and towns, as well as the soaring Cevennes with clear rivers and gorges. The distances to the motorway are about 5 km (A 75) and about 12 km (A 9).
