Description
Welcome home!
There are many holiday homes in the world, but if you are looking for the extraordinary, Dean Lake Cottage in Canada is the place to go
Furnished to a very high standard with attention to detail, it is situated in a secluded location directly on a lake area and its design is certainly ideal for feeling at home. Your holiday can begin right at the house.
The more than 180 m² Dean Lake Cottage in Southwest-Country-Style convinces above all by its high functionality and well thought-out room layout. The complete equipment is on a high level ( bathtub with whirlpool, Miele washing machine and dryer, two LCD TVs with satellite TV, DVD player, microwave, dishwasher, Weber grill, KitchenAid, canoe and kayak etc.).
The house has a total of three bedrooms on two floors, two living rooms and a large terrace outside. The cosy, open-plan living-dining-kitchen area on the ground floor has a wood-burning stove for the colder seasons. The second living room, which is on the first floor, has a large LCD TV and a Dolby surround system
A highlight is certainly the 90 m² terrace, which surrounds the house on three sides and is mostly covered. A total of 5 rooms on the ground floor have direct access to the terrace and a view of the lake
Another special feature is the footbridge that leads from the terrace directly into the lake. A sun deck was built close to the water. Ceiling fans have been installed in some rooms for hot days. Canoe, kayak, charcoal grill, bicycles, fishing equipment and a comprehensive folder with lots of information and restaurant tips are available free of charge in the house. You can start many activities directly from the house. Our guests really appreciate the many paths and seating areas. The sunsets on the Sunset Trail are unforgettable

Location and surroundings of object
The cottage sits on a m² of natural lakefront property and has more than m private shoreline frontage. It also includes seven private islands.
From Halifax International Airport (which is served by Condor direct flights from Germany from April to October), it is about two hours to Dean Lake Cottage. Before that, you will pass Bridgewater, where there are several large supermarkets and a small shopping mall. Also within 15 minutes of the cottage is the town of Caledonia, where you will find a medium-sized supermarket, a petrol station, a café, a liqueur store, a post office, a bank and much more. This short distance between pure nature and shopping facilities is rather rare by Canadian standards
The location of Dean Lake Cottage is particularly ideal for those who want to discover southern Nova Scotia from here. It is only about 45 minutes to the towns of Liverpool and Bridgewater on the south coast or to the Bay of Fundy. Kejimkujik National Park is only 20 minutes away by car and Halifax, the capital of Nova Scotia, is at least 1.5 hours away.
Lake
Dean Lake is perhaps one of the most beautiful lakes in Nova Scotia. It flows directly into the somewhat larger Mc Gowan Lake, which contains other small islands. The lake conveys a real Canadian feeling, as there are hardly any houses on the shore: Pure nature!
We recommend an extended tour by canoe and kayak or pedal boat, which are available to our guests, to discover the interconnected lakes. The many small islands offer the perfect place to take a break in between. There is even a picnic bench on one of them.
Noisy motorboats, jet skis or even seaplanes are fortunately rarely to be found here. From the sundeck and from the house you have a beautiful lake view and can enjoy the day at the water in peace and quiet. In summer the water is warm enough for swimming and in winter the lake is often frozen over.

additional information:
Wildlife
Due to the distance of about 12 km as the crow flies to Kejimkujik National Park, the wildlife and animal density is high. As the cottage is also located in the middle of nature, with a bit of luck you can spot white-tailed deer, raccoon, skunk or porcupine in the forest. Squirrels and chipmunks come right up to the terrace. At the lake you can also find the well-known bald eagles, Canada geese or the specially protected loons, which belong to the common loons and are depicted on the Canadian one-dollar coin.
Activities at the house
You can start many activities directly from the house. There is much to discover on the large property and in the immediate surroundings.
PATHS
There are a total of 3 km of private paths on the property. Explore the surroundings.
FISHING
There are many fishing opportunities here. However, be sure to obtain a fishing licence beforehand
SMALL HIKING (approx. 4 km)
STREAM WALK (10 km)
Walk to the Medway Rapids in Albany New.
Big tupper lake hike (14 km)
A beautiful trail around Tupper Lake. Enjoy the natural surroundings. About halfway along the trail you will find a picnic bench and public lake access with swimming. Take a break before continuing the rest of the way.
KAYAK AND CANOE
Explore the Dean Lake and Mc Gowan Lake area by kayak and canoe. A total of four lakes are interconnected and accessible directly from the house.
TIP: Trip by kayak and canoe to the private island belonging to the property. A large, comfortable picnic table invites you to linger here
SWIMMING
Dean Lake invites you to swim in many places, from the floating deck you can start swimming directly.
EVENINGS AND NIGHTS
Make yourself comfortable right by the house and watch the starry sky. In good weather you can even see the Milky Way.
Excursion possibilities: - Kejimkujik National Park (hiking, mountain biking, wildlife watching or canoeing) - Lunenburg (Unesco World Heritage Site, cruises on the Bluenose II) - Shelburne (historic town) - Fundy Bay (world's largest tidal range: 20 metres) - Digby (first-class election-watching cruises) - Halifax (historic town centre, large wooden waterfront promenade, fortress, interesting museums ( Titanic Museum, Immigration Museum Pier 21, Natural History Museum). Shubenacadie Wildlife Park (wildlife park with all known animals of Nova Scotia) - Annapolis Valley (interesting museums, ancient pioneer forts, beautiful gardens) - open-air museums (Ross Farm, Heritage Village and many more museums), Liverpool (pirate houses) - Lighthouse Route with tranquil fishing villages, lighthouses and tram-like coastline - Carter's Beach, Rissers Beach, Beach Meadows, Summerville Beach (beautiful sandy beaches from 50 min. drive) Festivals + Events, the calendar of events in southern Nova Scotia is full, especially in the season
Ski: Winter is one of the most beautiful seasons in Nova Scotia. Crackling fires and partially frozen lakes speak for themselves and are very mild compared to the winter resorts in the Rocky-Mountains, temperatures as low as -30 degrees are not to be expected. In the nearby Kejimkujik National Park (only 20 minutes drive!) you can go cross-country skiing or snowshoeing on interesting trails in winter (provided there is good snow cover). Some private operators in Nova Scotia also offer dog sledding or snowmobile rides
TIP:
In winter when snow has fallen, the walks and hikes around the house are especially fun. There is plenty of wood for cosy evenings by the fire.
Golf: International courses of high standard and prime location can be found in Annapolis Valley, Bridgewater, Liverpool, Lunenburg and Annapolis Valley. Bridgewater, Annapolis and Liverpool are up to an hour away from the holiday home.

S. Rüter
Hello, my name is Stefan Rüter and I am a big fan of Canada. When I went on holiday with my family to the Hunsrück in 2017, after some initial scepticism I was completely thrilled. Due to my enthusiasm for this region, the truly diverse range of activities and the partly still very unspoilt nature, I decided to set up the Steinbach Lake Lodges. Log cabin holiday homes that you won't find anywhere else in Germany. So in the meantime my heart beats for the Hunsrück and for Canada. If you have any questions about the Steinbach See Lodges, please feel free to contact me at any time.
