Location and surroundings of object
Due to the central location of the holiday home, there are numerous possibilities for excursions to neighbouring France and Luxembourg. In addition, the region has a well-developed bicycle network and excellent, nationally known hiking trails. Bathing and water sports enthusiasts get their money's worth at the Losheim reservoir.

Our holiday flat is located in the Hausbach district of the hiking community of Losheim am See in the "green" district of Merzig-Wadern in the northern Saarland. A dense hiking network (premium hiking trails) invites you to interesting excursions in the scenic wooded surroundings. Excursion destinations: Losheim reservoir, Wolfspark Merzig, Mettlach (Saarschleife, Villeroy & Boch), Saarburg (castle, summer toboggan run), Saarbrücken (castle, Ludwigskirche, zoo), Völklingen (World Heritage Site Old Völklingen Ironworks), Idar-Oberstein (gemstone city), Trier (oldest city in Germany), Luxembourg City (casemates, Grand Ducal Palace), Metz (cathedral, Walibi Park). Cycling tours: Saarland cycle path, cycle paths along the Saar and Moselle. Bathing: Losheim reservoir, outdoor and indoor swimming pools.

The municipality of Losheim am See is located in the district of Merzig - Wadern in the border triangle of Germany - France - Luxembourg and is part of the Saar - Hunsrück Nature Park. The municipality has inhabitants in 12 districts and is situated in a low mountain landscape at altitudes between 220 and 585 metres.
The Losheim reservoir with its diverse recreational opportunities and the museum railway have made the community well known. Large cultural events such as Rock or Klassik am See take place regularly and are very popular. A wide range of gastronomy (e.g. adventure brewery) and good shopping facilities (e.g. Globus market) are available to guests.
The village of Hausbach has about 800 inhabitants and is situated on the edge of the Black Forest in a scenic wooded area. Numerous forest paths invite you to interesting hikes through the hilly landscape. Destinations from our holiday flat are e.g.
-Losheim reservoir and museum railway
-the village of Britten with its wayside crosses hiking trail and nature experience and touch trail,
-the wolf enclosure in Merzig or
-the well-known town of Mettlach (see below)
Due to its central location between Trier, Saarbrücken and Luxembourg, Losheim am See is also a convenient starting point for excursions by car. In max. one hour you can reach e.g.
-Saarbrücken (castle, Ludwigskirche, zoo)
-Trier (Germany's oldest city, Porta Nigra, cathedral, main market, basilica, Imperial Baths)
-Luxembourg City (casemates, Grand Ducal Palace)
-Metz (Cathedral, Walibi Park, Aquadrome)
-Völklingen (World Cultural Heritage Old Völkl. Ironworks)
-Homburg (largest red sandstone caves in Europe)
-Idar-Oberstein (gemstone town, rock church)
-Nonnweiler (leisure centre with summer toboggan run)
-Saarburg (picturesque town, castle, waterfall, bell foundry, summer toboggan run)
-Hermeskeil (aircraft exhibition)
-Eifelpark near Bitburg
-numerous worthwhile destinations within the district, e.g.
Mettlach (Saarschleife, Montclair Castle, Saar shipping, Villeroy & Boch, Orscholz rehabilitation clinic),
-Merzig (Wolfspark, "Stones on the Border" sculpture route, St. Peter's Church),
-Perl (Roman Villa Borg, Roman mosaic) and much more.
For cycling tours, the cycle paths along the Saar and Moselle are particularly suitable for inexperienced cyclists or families with children. Popular destinations include the Saarschleife, Saarburg and Trier (see above). In addition, the well-signposted Saarland Cycle Path with a total length of about 350 km offers an attractive opportunity to explore the Saarland by bike.
As an alternative to the excursion programme, several outdoor and indoor swimming pools, the Losheim reservoir and two indoor adventure pools guarantee bathing fun in any weather.
The Saarland also has a lot to offer families with children.

Highly recommended!!!
The flat is very spacious and absolutely clean and equipped with everything you need. Barbecues are allowed in the garden and there is a parking space right next to the house. Mrs Laux is very friendly, helpful and discreet. We felt absolutely comfortable and can recommend the holiday flat.
