Gerani is a small town with a quiet, family-friendly beach, about 15 kilometers west of Chania. The landscape is characterized by citrus and olive trees. There are supermarkets, butcher, bakery, confectionery and pharmacy as well as several taverns. Everything is rather quiet and informal - you won't find any big hotels here. But that is also what makes the place so attractive. If you want more hustle and bustle, the neighboring town of Platanias is a 20-minute walk away, where there is a lively, about ten-kilometer-long beach and plenty of entertainment options.

The typical villages of Pano Gerani, Manoliopoulou, Modi, Loutraki and also the mountain villages of Vatolako and Patelari with their orange and lemon groves give you an authentic impression of the local way of life. Day trips to the Elafonissi nature reserve with its flat sandy beaches or to the dune beaches of Falassarna in western Crete are also worthwhile. Tip: Drive in just 15 minutes to the fishing village of Kolimbari, located at the foot of the Rodopou Peninsula
