In the middle of the world famous flower bulb fields and behind the dunes lies the holiday resort, 200 meters from the beach. Between the dunes a little south of Callantsoog is the nature reserve "Het Zwanenwater". A 580 ha large, beautiful dune area with 2 large dune lakes, moors, ponds, heath and forest. Het Zwanenwater is known above all for its unique spoonbill colony. There are also many rare plant species such as wild orchids, flowers and herbs, as well as breeding grounds for more than 70 bird species. In this area 2 hiking routes are signposted. From May to the beginning of August various guided hikes are organised. This nature reserve is managed by the Association of Nature Reserves. The "poëzieroute" has existed in Callantsoog for 15 years. This cycle and hiking route takes you past beautiful places where you can read beautiful poems on the boards set up here and there.
